Who is the better skater: Slutskaya or Cohen?

I never enjoyed Irina's skating much so automatically as a Sasha uber I'm gonna go with Sasha despite her many flaws. Far more enjoyable to watch, even when she fell. Irina always looked so, so sloppy and hunched over for me, despite her oodles of charisma.

I just loved that Irina kept MK's record in check! Michelle would have won so much more without the judge's fave "rosy cheek" IS in the comp.! Her jumping was just enough to overtake the style and grace of MK it seemed! It's probably why I liked Surya so much! Sasha's stroking around the ice is still more entertaining than any of these skaters! It was a real shame simple errors kept her from medaling more! :sarah1: :sasha1:

They are so different...
I think every poster will write that name wich was his favorite...

Better competitor: Slutskaya
Better performer: Cohen
Better technician: Slutskaya
Better artist: Cohen
Better jumps: Slutskaya
Better spins: Cohen
Better footwork: Slutskaya
Better spiral: Cohen

Better skater, IMO: Cohen

You probably couldn't compare 2 more different skaters. Like comparing Evgeny Plushenko to Jeremy Abbott.

Slutskaya was a better skater, Sasha was a much better performer and had tons more style and artistry, but Slutskaya was a better actual skater when you get down to it IMO. Footwork, jumps, skating skills, speed, control, that's all Irina being a better skater over Sasha.

If it were "who is the better artist?", I think it's a given.

Slutskaya's best program for artistry

She had so many tacky programs, it's a little shocking how good her interpretation and attention to detail were in this actually. If she had more programs like this, there could be a discussion about artistry vs Cohen

I know she wasn't the most lyrical skater out there, but she had a few you had to like! I loved "Schindler's List" exhibition and SP for Olympic season of '01-02, "Serenade!" It was around this time from 2000-05 when she was legitimately beating MK! :40beers:

It depends whether you value technical skills or artistry more highly. Slutskaya is clearly ahead in technical skills even if Sasha can match or better her in some elements (eg- some spins, spirals) while Cohen is clearly ahead in overall artistry/ presentation even though Irina can match or better her in some aspects (skating skills, edge quality, speed, dramatics, command). Since Slutskaya was a better competitor too that is the tiebreaker for me and I go with her, even though Irina is one of the my least favorite skaters ever.

Cohen probably has the better spins but it isnt by much. Both were clearly better spinners than all their main competitors like Kwan, and Slutskaya did more difficult spins. If she centered her spins a bit better or executed her Biellmanns better I would probably go with her.

And better performer? I dont think it is clear Cohen wins that at all. Slutskaya has great command on the ice, and Cohen isnt exactly an enthusiastic performer with tons of personality on the ice.
