Say,I know I asked this a while back. But I just want to get an update....and I was just wondering...who here...IS an Ice-Dancer? Please mark the kind of Ice-Dancer you are. Also,I'd like to know how LONG you have been Ice-Dancing?

I ice dance with my coach. I have never had a permanent partner, and I'm working on dances that are too hard for me to do without assistance. (They're not very advanced, not beginner level either.)

I ice danced for a few years in the 1990s, and then I started again about 3 years ago. All in all, about 5 years worth of lessons.

I do both solo and partnered ice dance. I've been ice dancing for about 10 years, but I had already skated for about 10 years before that. I have had two partners that I competed with, but do not have a partner now. I work with a partnering coach, who skates with me for lessons and tests.

I have a partner now, for pattern dances, not for free dances. I also do solo dances and want to try the new adult solo free dance event.

I’ve been ice dancing for about ten years, and skating for more than 20 years.

How do you have a Partner for only one type of Dance? You mean for the Short-Dance,right?

As a adult skater (which is different than the seniors you see on tv), we can compete solo pattern dances, partnered pattern dances, solo free dance, and partnered free dance. We don’t have a short dance.

Most adults don’t have the time or money to train and compete like the elite skaters.

Ummm...interesting!!...I always thought that there was ALWAYS a Short AND Freedance, and the ONLY difference was that the're not shown on TV.

Nope. There’s differences across all levels of skating. For example, for single freestyle, there’s never a short program for adults, and for standard skaters it doesn’t start until juniors. (Or maybe Novice. I’m not sure.)

LOL.,oh Purple....I'm surely learning a LOT from...YOU!!!

Short programs for singles and pairs start at Intermediate in the US. It may be different internationally.

Looks like ISU novice guidelines say Basic Novice is freeskating only and Advanced Novice has short programs.

The US does not follow the ISU novice guidelines.

(None of the above is relevant to ice dancing, FSWer. For ice dance, short dances start at Junior level and lower levels do pattern dances and free dances.)

And in some cases (like me), we ice dance to simply learn to be a better skater and improve our edges, stroking and other skills. I doubt I'll ever compete again or even test my dances, much less get a partner. I do this for fun and to improve my skating.

FSWer: there's a whole world of ice dance beyond the partnerships and programs you see on TV. Many adults just skate and dance because they love doing it, not because they expect to partner or compete, etc. They just love this sport and being on the ice!
