Which figure skating discipline will have the most shocking result at these Milano Olympics? Either final results or an individual’s results. I think it will be pairs.

I say ladies. Because most of us haven’t seen any of the banned countries, so there’s no comparisons to the world’s top ladies. I really hope that the judges will not reward the system that promotes drugged, abused and starving jumping beans (oops, did I just say that?), but anything is possible.

A "shocking" result in Men's would indeed be shocking. In the three other disciplines, maybe not.

Well, I voted for Men simply because I think Yuma's goodwill from the judges may not get him through another error-riddled competition and I could see him off the podium as a result, which would, indeed, be shocking to most of us.

Aside from Ilia losing, which I don't think will happen, the biggest shock in the men's event would be if the men didn't men. It wouldn't be all that shocking to me if Yuma didn't end up on the podium, especially since he says he's not playing it safe. The quads are such big drivers in the men's event.

I think Kaori has more goodwill with the judges and is saying goodbye, so it would be a bigger surprise - or at least a bigger disappointment - if she ended up off the podium after all the World championships/medals she has won the last four years. (But, I am admittedly biased; I much prefer Kaori to Mone and Ami and don't want a Russian on the podium.)

IMO the only fully shocking outcome will be if Ilia does not win the mens event. For all the other events there are a couple of potential winners, and numerous potential medalists.
The only other potential shocking thing to me would be if there is more than one non-IAM dance team on the podium.

I would say that in Women's and Pairs, it’s more than just a couple of potential winners. Maybe six women (the three Japanese, two Americans, and Petrosian) and four Pairs (the top Japanese, Italians, and Germans and the Georgians, assuming that the first two of those are fit enough to contend). YMMV.

As I said, a shocking result in Men's would be truly shocking. Now for the U.S.A. to finish 1-2 in Pairs. 🤞
Noooooo! That would take so many epic meltdowns!

Well THAT WAS REALLY SHOCKING. What does the ladies and pairs have in store?
I really don't want to see Kaori have a day like Ilia or Yuma had. And I hope what happened to Ilia today is not contagious for the American women.

I had told friends that CB were a shoe in for dance gold and IM a shoe in for the men's gold. If someone had told me that Gogoliev would place second in the LP I would have said not likely but...........

I guess this is what we always wanted in FS though - that the scores and placements would reflect how the skaters skated on the day on competition as opposed to their previous reps.

JMO, but Shaidorov's PCS scores do not reflect what I saw on the ice. This is not what I want in figure skating. (I'm not debating his win. The other guys gave it to him with their jumps.)

Kaori has lots more experience and much greater poise.
Yuma also had the Olympic experience, but didn't perform as well as in Beijing. I thought he would be able to handle the pressure b/c of his previous Olympic experience. But I think in Beijing he had no expectations, whereas this time he did, which put a lot of pressure on him. Although Misha won the World silver last year, there was less pressure on him than Yuma and Ilia.
Kaori has flubbed several times recently, so be prepared for the unexpected. I really do hope Kaori gets the gold. Uh-oh did I just jinxed her?
See, I knew Ilia should have been sent to Beijing instead of Jason to get the experience. Ilia even said that himself that he should have been sent to Beijing. No guarantees though if Ilia would have done well if he went to Beijing. Look at Yuma.
