We Could Be Heroes: Duhamel and Radford Uber Thread

Aw, thanks for starting the thread! I love their back story (2 singles skaters wondering what to do next but refusing to give up what they love) and what they have achieved together. To me, they are an inspiration. I was at Canadians when they won their first title. I went to those Nationals expecting Patrick Chan and Tessa/Scott to be the highlights for me and it ended up being D/R who truly stole my heart that year.

CBC recently uploaded to YouTube their fluff piece on Eric Radford that was broadcast during Worlds: Eric Radford on Music, Skating and Living a Dream
"How Canadian pairs figure skater Eric Radford is evolving as a talented musician and composer, and looking forward to life beyond the rink."
:)

ETA:
Article written By Eric about their ordeal at worlds.
He describes how the worlds experience was for them.

HOpe Eric heals well and that the disappointment at Worlds will translate into an even more passionate Oly season

I think being 7th will get under their skin and make them skate better. They're probably ticked off for getting edged by Iliushechkina/Moscovitch and will fight to remain Canada No. 1.
IMO returning to Muse is their best idea yet, because it was from the season where they were unbeatable (2014-15). Muse was edgy and creative for pair skating, and I liked it a lot. A stylish, mature program for a top pair.

On that topic - as far as the GP next year, do you think Meagan and Eric will still get Skate Canada International? They aren't seeded, and I/M are, so I just wonder if I/M will be the Canadian pair represented at SCI.

Looks like Meagan has a sassy new hair do :glamor: - does anyone have a good picture of it? (I don't follow Instagram)

I haven't found a good photo but here is today's video clip: https://www.instagram.com/p/BTHZR6EhyQT/?taken-by=meaganduhamel&hl=en

say I feel excited like a child on Christmas morning! Learning something brand new after skating for 28 years is rare .... Second attempt ever and first time landing a double axel half loop triple Sal!! Filming and half loop coaching credit of goes to [Liam Firus]"

Dang, looking good! Is there anything this woman can't do? #SuperwomanMeagan

It is true they were unbeatable, but the season was actually 2014-2015 :) Sorry to be a picky fuss bucket! LOL.

Love it! For years I was wishing she would either grow it out or cut it much shorter - good choice for her as she has nice bone structure which is highlighted with this style. :)

Funny enough, lots of pair girls have short hair right now - Sui, Stolbova, Iliushechkina, Kavaguti. But of course, our queen Meagan wears it best :glamor:

Anyway, I loved their Muse because it was different. There are so many classical programs in pairs and then these two brought the edginess! I have to say that's my favorite program of theirs.
It absolutely suited them :) I actually don't have any musical preferences as long as the performance matches the music, I am happy :) Which is of course entirely subjective. Haha.

Agree.
Muse was actually when I really started liking them. I was watching them at the 2014 GPF and was just blown away (and I'll admit I was a Stolbova/Klimov fan since Sochi). Meagan and Eric just gave me something so fresh and stylish that I got hooked.
I think Meagan's new hair will go great with it too :)

You're allowed to like them all my friend! For me personally, there is room for all of them, in every discipline.

In general I love all the pairs. Especially because the girls are so fierce and fun :) I've been told I have a pair girl attitude.
And THAT is a compliment! I took a non-skating friend to Skate Canada a few years ago (she owed me because I went to Fenway Park with her) and she was terrified during the pairs. Hahahahaha!! We were in the 2nd row. She had no idea how high they fly in the lifts and throws and so close to the boards sometimes. It was awesome.

I watched live pairs once, at 2015 Skate America, and it was both scary and thrilling. It's my favorite discipline because the tricks are crazy and yet you get to see the cool choreography and chemistry like ice dance.

After Helsinki Worlds, Eric was "diagnosed with a herniated disc at his L2 vertebra in his lower back — compressing the nerve to his hip" - article by Lori Ewing: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/w...dford-diagnosed-with-herniated-disc-1.4088946
The two are back skating as part of the Stars on Ice tour which opens Friday in Halifax. The tour stops in 12 Canadian cities, wrapping up May 18 in Vancouver.
"I was unsure whether I'd be able to do the tour, but I'm really happy I decided to give it a try, because even within the first two days being here, working with the physio, just slowly getting back into it, I've noticed a big improvement," Radford said. "I'm so lucky because on tour I have a physio that I can see three times a day. And I'm lucky that I can still do the tour but heal along the way."
The two will then take a couple of weeks off before preparation begins in earnest for the 2018 Olympic season.

Cool.
Although I think their quad throw suffers from its long setup, I think if they choreographed to a slower piece of music it would be very effective.

Update: Meagan and Eric have been assigned Skate Canada International and Skate America on the next Grand Prix.

Competitors at SCI: Savchenko/Massot, James/Cipres, Iliushechkina/Moscovitch, Peng/Jin, Zabiiako/Enbert, Denney/Frazier.
Competitors at SA: Savchenko/Massot, Yu/Zhang, Zabiiako/Enbert, Scimeca-Knierim/Knierim, Moore-Towers/Marinaro, Denney/Frazier

Not the easiest pick, but good luck to them! Kind of bittersweet to think that this is their last season but hopefully they can go out with a bang!
