VPN tips, advice, recommendations, etc.

If you have a Mac, this process is very straight-forward to bypass any issues with being in a prohibited country.

Open up the stream on Opera or whatever browser you can access it, go to full-screen, use the screen mirroring option, and you literally get your laptop screen on your TV.

I'm sure Windows has a similar feature, but I haven't used Windows in 15 years so I couldn't tell you.
Thanks. I’ll try it

You have a Mac? Open, for example, the Europeans coverage on YouTube via Opera browser. Make the video full-screen. Somewhere in the taskbar, top right corner of your screen where the time and date should be (depending on which Mac version you have), there should be a control center icon, most likely next to the magnifying glass. Inside of that is the option to mirror your screen. As long as your TV is on the same internet connection, it should show up in the list of options.

Just tried it, works without problem.

Windows is the same. It's how I cast to my Roku.

My Surfshark subscription is about to renew automatically and at CA$81/year, I no longer think it's worth the expense. I use it to watch BBC iplayer stuff and tennis in Australia, UK and France. Thankfully being in Canada I am able to access a lot of free ISU YouTube skating so that hasn't been a problem.

I used Bitdefender in the past and can't say I've seen a difference. I also find the "privacy protection" aspects to be dubious.

Are some of you still using a VPN through the Opera browser but now it's no longer free?

Anyone super satisfied with their VPN provider? :)

I have Mozilla VPN and like it

I've also used it. It's pretty reliable compared to other ones, and it's comfortable that it is built into the browser's interface. Anyway, I had problems accessing many sites for work because they saw a connection through a VPN.

Now, I use a proxy that I set up in the Mozilla browser - much easier, much cheaper, and always secure anonymous connections. I got a residential proxy from here. Paying only 1.5$ per month - and that's all the costs.

I have used Mullvad VPN for like a couple of years and no problem
I saw that they also only have only a flat rate monthly plan so no locking yourself in for 1-2 years and you don’t need to give out your personal info to create an account.

If this is in the wrong cat please let me know. I’ve been watching Russian Grand
Prix directly from Channel 1 website on Apple devices- is there a risk with security being from the US or is that all nonsense?

Bumping this up because I'm going to be out of the country during nationals and would like to watch on my iPad on the Peacock app. Does anyone have VPN app recommendations for iPad that gel well with Peacock? Thank you!

In case this advice helps anyone:
Myanmar does not permit YouTube ads. Nor does Myanmar buy figure skating coverage.
So if you set your VPN to Myanmar, you can watch all the ISU and other channels, with no ads.
I've had the Nord VPN for two years now and it is excellent. I have it installed on both my cell and my computer.
You can get it quite cheap with the yearly Black Friday deal. I do watch a lot of competitions during the season so it is 100% worth it for me.

I downloaded Nord to my Android tablet to be able to watch Peacock or YouTubeTV when I’m in Milan. I tried to test it by setting it to Netherlands and watching the ISU’s YouTube 4CC videos and it wouldn’t let me. Is there a trick to getting YouTube to work with a VPN?

I have a free VPN - Urban VPN as a Chrome extension and it works fine. May be the country you are trying to use?

Youtube shut me out of access to the ISU channel yesterday. (At least it was a day this week). I watched the whole beginning of Euros and the start of the pairs free last weekend, now everything says my VPN is detected. Mom & I both had Express VPN. This morning I called her, and she can't get the ISU channel either. She tried downloading Nord this morning, and it didn't work either.

Just double-checked again - I have the free version of Urban VPN set to Argentina and all of the ISU playlists on YT from 4CCs are still available when I turn it on.

Do the videos play? I can see all the playlists but none of the videos will play. I tried a couple of different countries.

I’ve been using Windscribe (10GBs free per month) set to Netherlands or Hong Kong. Recently Netherlands didn’t have all disciplines of Four Continents available, but Hong Kong did.

Have also previously had success with PrivadoVPN (also 10GBs free) set to Argentina.

Dang it - nope! I'm getting the same VPN/Proxy Detected message. How annoying. Must be a new Youtube feature. That's super-annoying.
Major bummer for Worlds. Yes, Peacock will have it, but it’s always nice to be able to avoid the Tara and Johnny commentary when there’s an alternative.

ETA, with major corps on VPNs, none of that proprietary stuff will work either. We will see on Monday when the calls start to come in.
