An announcement was made by the Governor General today of 114 new appointees of the Order of Canada, which include 8 Companions (C.C.), 21 Officers (O.C.), 1 Honorary Member (C.M.), and 84 Members (C.M.). Each recipient will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.

Among the new Members were Scott Moir, C.M. and Tessa Virtue, C.M. - each named for unparalleled excellence in ice dancing and for inspiring the next generation of Canadian figure skaters.

Feeling all wrapped up in emotion ...

Upon learning about being invested into the Order of Canada, I couldn’t help but think that as a kid, I would have never known to dream so big. Scott and I were always so proud to represent our country, and today, I reflect upon just how lucky we are.

I am humbled by this honour! 🇨🇦
Congratulations to them both! :)

Well done. I honestly doubt that there can be another team like them again in Canada.

The Order of Canada lapel pin is a miniature of the medal - it is white, not gold.

This announcement made the local radio news, with the tagline "Canada's favourite couple receives Canada's highest award". What, more favourite than Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger?

Wow. What a great news department to reference a couple who divorced seven years ago!

Although the announcement of their appointment was made back in November 2020, the actual investiture ceremony is taking place on December 14, 2022 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

One advance press article today: Virtue & Moir investiture

Ah, I was wondering about this. One of the other recipients sent out a Tweet about getting their award, and I thought maybe the 2022 honours had been announced and their award had been upgraded

I posted this in the Virtue/Moir fan thread yesterday - their blurb from the press release: https://www.gg.ca/en/media/order-canada-appointees-december-14-2022

Scott Moir, C.M. and Tessa Virtue, C.M.
Ilderton, Ontario and London, Ontario

Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue have brought ice dancing to unprecedented heights. The most decorated team in figure skating’s history, they have won more than 50 international medals, including three Olympic gold medals, and were the youngest ice dancers to stand atop the Olympic podium. They have emboldened tomorrow’s figure skaters through their displays of elegant strength and chemistry, and by promoting inclusivity in sport as proud supporters of Special Olympics Canada. Undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with as partners, they also support their communities as individuals.

The ceremony was at 11 am (eta link to the point in the replay stream when they appear): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWbeUsyOYy8&t=1h16m40s

They have been doing quite a few investiture ceremonies lately, both at Rideau Hall in Ottawa and at La Citadel in Quebec City (both of them official residences of the Governor General). They were "backed up" after not doing them during the pandemic lockdowns, etc. They also have to be scheduled when the recipients are available.

Considering how many recipients are at each ceremony, scheduling must be quite the feat!
