Making the Cut is available now on Amazon Prime. I plan to watch this evening. Post any impressions, snarks, or insider tidbits here.

Hmmm. I’ve just finished episodes 1 and 2. I also listened to Tom & Lorenzo’s podcast review at tomandlorenzo.com which only confirmed my impressions.

So far, they are using two day challenges with seamstress support. Good, right? Well not if the designer can’t communicate instructions to the help that they never meet. The inability to pattern, write instructions, and visualize the finished looks have led to the first two auffings.

Tim is still the Lifetime version and doesn’t seem to be doing much to help or hurt. Heidi’s getting meaner. I like Nicole Ritchie and Joseph Altuzarra as judges. Naomi Campbell alternates between being an astute critic and being a total beyotch. Frankly, I don’t know why Carine Roitfeld (former editor of Paris Vogue) is there.

In terms of enjoyment, Project Runway with Christian and Nina would be my first choice. If you’re catching up and need some fashion in your play list, start there. I think Netflix’s Next in Fashion was great as well. Based on the first two episodes, I’m not in love with Making the Cut. That said, I have fallen in love with one designer’s work and will keep watching to see how far Sabado goes.

I like it. I like seeing more of the process of design, rather than the drama. I'm currently watching the second episode and my question is why the hell did they cast Martha? She is so out of her depth that it really isn't entertaining or funny. She should never have been cast.

I’m watching episode 3 now. I like the lack of gimmicks. No racing for fabric. No making clothes out of random crap. No drama with models. No drama between designers being created or exploited so far. No drama over budget for materials. Just making the clothes.

Episodes 3 and 4 are up. There’s still a lot of it that bugs me, but the clothes are quite good and most of the contestants are easy to root for. I’m still team Sabado, but Sander and Megan are growing on me.
