Threat Of School Shooting

They found a threat scrawled in a bathroom stall in my kids' high school. Supposedly a shooting will happen tomorrow. The police are involved and will have a heavy presence on campus.

I'm angry. I'm sad. This is the world my kids are living in?! Honestly, I feel kind of numb, helpless, there's really not much I can do to protect them..... My instinct is to keep them home, but they can't live life hiding. My husband thinks it's a copycat hoax but has left the decision up to me. I'm torn.

I didn’t post this to debate gun laws. I’m at a point where I think it’s hopeless, we U.S. people appearanly can’t breathe without them. I posted to seek advice. What do I tell my kids? How do I prepare them for this possibility of a shooting? What can I do as a mother to comfort them?

More than likely, if they were really going to shoot at the school, they wouldn’t have made the threat beforehand.

It’s highly likely that law enforcement are investigating and will probably find who made the threat by Monday morning.

I say let them stay home on Friday, especially if the kids are a nervous wreck about going.

One of the local schools here (another town over) had a threat yesterday, and the start of school was postponed by I think 2 hours. It is ridiculous, knowing that it's just a matter of time before it happens again. So very sad that children can't be safe in school.

Same thing happened to another high school in a neighnoring city yesterday. Now I just saw that there was also a threat at the middle school in another neighboring town, and this is an affluent one!

Madness!!

Generally, if the school is open, I would send my kids. Schools are being extremely cautious about these threats and they are closing or delaying school openings if there is even the slightest hint of danger.

The only exception would be if the kid involved was a nervous wreck and having anxiety attacks about it.

Both decided to go to school. My daughter said her classes were half empty and that security was everywhere, constantly walking around. No softball practice though (because of the wet field).

The senior son is currently at baseball practice, no incident at all.

Supposedly there will be ultra high security again on Monday. What happens once all the extra security is gone? I swear my hair is falling with each minute!
