The Shibutanis Thread Cinco...Mambo!

They skated this the best they could, so regardless of the crappy call they got they left nothing on the ice. That's really all they could do. The rest is out of their hands. I'm just happy they can leave today knowing they did everything.

I don’t know. Pedrazzini (he’s a tech specialist in ID, commentating for RAI) was speaking during their rhumba replay about how precise they’re, and how this was going to get a level 4. It all looked good to me. Clean deep edges and correct steps.
Tanith also complimented their rhumba talking about how good it was. I mean it's just headshaking at this point.

We’ll have to see how the teams in the last group score. I’m a little worried that H/D and B/S will pass them, but I’m so proud that they skated that SD the way they did. And yes, level 4 for the no touch step seq is amazing :respec:

Only Chock and Bates and one other team has so far squeezed out a SB, so these scores have not been especially generous.

French commentator thought they were stressed on the pattern but explosive at the end... I have one doubt about Maia's second choctaw, but have to rewatch to be sure...

I'm trying to look at it this way, but I'm going to be really bummed if inconsistent or biased technical calls cost the Shibs the bronze. In any event, the Shibs did do great and couldn't demand more of themselves.

I also find that puzzling. My only criticism is that their second step of the double choctaw could've been a bit wider but it was still very good.

On a different note, does anyone know why the double choctaws are skated much better these days compared to the past? In the past, it seemed like very few teams could skate them properly. Even teams like Klimova & Ponomarenko and Grishuk & Platov didn't skate them very well.

Judging aside, I loved their performance. It was my favorite dance of the night. I just have to resign myself, put aside the judging, and enjoy their performance. I've been really happy with the other skating podiums, which is rare for me with the Olympics, so I'll just suck it up with the ice dance.

Shibs got NYN on the keypoints. Can anyone translate that? Is that something Marina can challenge (like Babs with her stopwatch)?

The Ukrainian judge gave the Shibs a 10.00 for performance. Let's keep her for the FD. I think PCS and GOE went to the Shibs for good reason. If the Shibs can keep the BV up, then I think they'll take a medal.
