Alex clearly has major talent behind the camera and in the editing suite! I hope they grab all the opportunities they can but I selfishly wish for their return- I think I appreciate them all the more now that I’m looking at the GP lineup and realising we’re missing the two most technically sound teams as well as some gorgeous performers.

Whatever they plan to do, I will say Alex is a very talented photographer. Not just saying that because I'm a fan of his and Maia's skating but I really do believe Alex has talent in visual arts and he's obviously interested improving his skills in that area. He puts a lot of work into the editing of their videos as well. It really comes through. The sweetest thing is that Maia is clearly very proud of him and it comes out when she talks about it. It's not the only time Maia has expressed being proud of her big brother.

They are so close, closer than the normal siblings are these days, which is very nice. The Hartsells are the only skating siblings I can think of that were closer, even if I couldnt stand the Hartsells.

Happy Birthday, Maia! It's been ten years since I first saw 14-year-old Maia mesmerize me at 2009 Junior Worlds. I became an instant fan from that point forward, and boy what a journey. They've been competing at the top level for so long that I forget she's now only just 24.

Alex's message: I’m so grateful to have a person in my life like @maiashibutani. She’s my sister, my teammate, and my best friend. Most of you know this, but none of you know this as well as I do... Maia is sweet, strong, graceful, and compassionate. She’s SO smart, SO funny, and the best friend you could ever hope to have. I’m so proud of you, Maia... for everything that you are and everything that I know you will be. Happy Birthday!!!

Photos of Maia & Alex from the 2018 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards -- the show was taped on Thursday, July 19 in Santa Monica, CA, and broadcast on Nickelodeon the following day (there may be more rebroadcasts): Getty Images

I was wondering, does anybody know where I can find a copy of their Olympic skate from the NBC broadcast online? I've actually never seen that one because I watched it live on the Olympic website online.

I'm with you on new programs, VGT! Can't they unearth that one exhibition program they had choreographed by Buttle way back (The other one to "Do you Remember" from Lambiel IIRC).

Looks like the one on NBC Olympics expired. :/

I can't find the NBC one either, but the search did lead me to rewatch their Olympic FD again, and man, that thing was SO GOOD. Like in the nerves and emotions of the Olympics I don't think I got to fully appreciate the whole performance. I really think that's the best they've ever skated. It was just phenominal.

Entertaining video with Teen Vogue where Alex and Maia read complimentary tweets about the other:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGc5CDokxnI

I'm kind of surprised that they are getting opportunities with teen and younger publications since Alex and Maia are well above the age group but I guess they still look young and give off young vibes.

It's also whether they appeal to that youth demographic and if you look at the fans that show up at SOI for the Shibs, at lot of them are in their teens and early-20s. That would Teen Vogue's demo, I'd think.

Teen Vogue is also trying to market itself as a smart and witty publication, not just one that cares about make-up and clothing. The Shibutanis really match that image, IMO.

True. I've been really impressed with the articles coming out of these teen female oriented publications.

If you watch Alex's latest IG story with Ryan Higa, you'd find out that Alex can play the piano at least somewhat,

According to this tweet, Alex & Maia are two of 100+ creatives, founders, and leaders who bought out a theatre for Crazy Rich Asians:

It looks like Alex and Maia are at the World Premiere of the movie:

That's so awesome!! I'm super pumped about this movie. I never get a chance to go to the movies with a toddler, but I'm tempted to buy tickets just to support the movie. Is that weird? Hahaha.

Not at all. I'm not expecting the film to be a masterpiece or even great, but I will definitely see it in the theater because I have a vested interest in seeing this movie succeed. However, even without all of that, if you want to see a movie in a theater just because you want to, then I totally get that

I feel you -- it's been a while since I've been to a movie.

I read the entire series (Crazy Rich Asians, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems) and I really enjoyed it. I think the movie is going to be good.

Props to the Shibs for speaking up through their wallets!

Rostelecom Cup Vlog is up!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQR6703HVr0

I have to say it's actually sort of nice to have this vlog be up a few months after the season has ended. It gives it a totally different perspective and it's crazy to remember what the season was like in the very beginning now that we know how it turned out. Lots of great appearances from other skaters.

The brief part with D10 at the after-reception 5:32 - 5:40 is delightful and heartbreaking. And Stephane telling the Shibs that he's now a coach, which means even when he's wrong, he's right, is

Oh gosh, I didn't remember Denis made an appearance in the Rostelecom Cup vlog. I just rewatched it, and man it hurts. That will be the last time we'll see Denis in a vlog.

It's really heartwarming to see that Denis had so many friends of different nationalities and backgrounds. I'll always remember Alex's tweets about Denis learning English from watching American movies and how he'd repeat lines from "Yeah!" by Usher. Really funny. Watching some of the documentaries about Denis, it's a little surprising that Denis wasn't bitter about his great grandfather, a leader for Korean independence, being killed by the Japanese. I've met some Korean Americans who were/are still disdainful of Japanese people due to what their ancestors suffered. But Denis was like a model U.N. He brought many people together and became a national hero.

Some fun news: I am excited to share that I will be moderating a conversation with @MaiaShibutani and @AlexShibutani, aka the @ShibSibs, tomorrow (Saturday) at 1 p.m. at @kconusa. Come by and hang out! ⛸🏅
http://www.kconusa.com/maia-and-alex-shibutani-kcon18la-special-guest/
Alex and Maia Shibutani made Olympic history at the 2018 Winter games, but their story begins long before then. The brother and sister’s (affectionately known as the “ShibSibs”) memories of working as a team date back to their early childhood. While their familial ties and trust form the basis for their teamwork, their relationship as siblings presented unique obstacles in a sport that emphasizes romanticism and tradition. How the two created their own road-map to success that led right to the Olympic podium is an inspirational program about learning to develop and trust one’s own unique process when the outcome is uncertain. Equal parts funny, focused and determined, the Shibutanis take audiences along on their journey, from their upbringing and early successes, to obstacles they encountered and overcame, and into their Olympic experience.

Denis is a very unique athlete in this way. Even in a sport with so many international ties, he is like one of the most internationally connected athletes. I remember when Eislauffan was saying she had messaged Oberstdorf and Rostelecom about having a moment of silence for him, I was thinking "all those years at Skate America and Trophee Lalique." He trained in Russia for years and in L.A. for years. And all those years at 4CCs, especially in Asia. He spoke about his Korean heritage and tried to bring skating into Kazakhstan. He toured with Takahashi in Japan. And spoke on behalf of athletes from countries that don't have strong skating federations. Really, it's like we all claim him.

Looking at some KCon stuff online and it's nice to see Alex get such a crazy welcome. Maia did too, but usually in public events, Maia gets the loudest applause but this time all the girls went crazy for Alex. Not saying Alex doesn't get a great welcome but some times even Alex comments on it in a self-deprecating manner (his M.O.).
