The Ross Miner Cheer Thread

Miner's skating has not come across as well on tv as live. I've been surprised how much I like his performances when I've been in the arena, while watching online or tv he's been so understated that he's seemed a bit bland.

But not last night! What a great performance, at the right moment. Talk about blowing away all expectations. Regardless of what ends up happening with the team selection, that was, for me, the best skate of the night. Way to go, Ross! :kickass:

I don't know if in the end Ross will be happy or not. I only hope he's able to handle the Olympic decision. His coach experienced essentially the same thing and the results had a long term impact on him. I sincerely hope they can be happy. In some ways it would have been easier for them if he'd come in 4th. But, I was so proud of him last night.

Not sending Ross Miner in 2018 would be akin to not sending Paul Wylie in 1992.

Which reminds me, why are there only two Ross Miner threads on FSU?

Ross had the skate of the night last night. I have always enjoyed his skating--great performer. He finally put together two great programs. He deserves to be on the Olympic team.

A few thoughts, posted here, where other major Miner aficionados can condole with me.

1. "Body of work" is a piece of work. :soapbox:

2. Irrespective of the specifics here, "body of work" favors skaters on the downswing over those on the upswing. :angryfire

3. I like Adam Rippon. A lot. I like Ross Miner more. :wuzrobbed

4. We'll always have San Jose. :swoon: :wuzrobbed

5. WUZROBBED!!!! :wuzrobbed

Ross seems like such a nice guy and I feel for him. There are only 2 people in San Jose who knows what he is going through and the first ironically is his own coach, who went through a similar thing.

The second is Mirai. I hope she buys him a drink at the hotel bar.

I'm really baffled how the USFS thinks this will help the reputation of FS as a sport, or Nats as a competition.

But massive props to Ross for that magnificent free skate and the ovation and medal he totally earned. The audience was with him the whole way. I hope he can remember all that despite the disappointment that followed.

Like I said I'm gonna go find Ross today somehow even if I have to lobbychick the Marriott and give him a hug.

I am so glad to have seen that amazing skate live. I've become a Ross uber I guess because I'm so mad. (I mean, anything is less stressful than being a Sasha uber. Those were dark days indeed...)

I really wanted USFSA to send Ross, although I do love Adam too.

Yeah, Mark Mitchell didn't go to the Olympics in 1992, and an injured Todd didn't perform well at the Olympics. I did see Mark's 1992 World Championships LP which was performed well. LOL - the audience loved it and Mark's own reaction to hitting his program is PRICELESS!

I did think Mirai had a raw deal in 2014. They discounted her previous 4th place finish at the previous Olympics. However, the experience only made her stronger.

Downtown San Jose is relatively low key for a large city, so Ashley, Ross and their entourage should go have some fun there, or maybe even go to San Francisco and paint the town pink.

Mitchell posted on his FB page he's done with coaching. Third strike: first him in 92, then Katrina Hacker in 2008 (I forgot she medaled and didn't get sent to Worlds) and now Ross. He said he can't continue to tell his students to work hard and they can fulfill their dreams when he knows it's not true.

That's a loss to the skating world. It's not just Ross who was impacted by this decision. :(

That would be my reaction! Doing this again so soon will only "contract" interest to do well and perform; not uplift hopes! Another sad day for the USFSA; justified in doing it, but so much controversy could have been avoided if Adam had kept his big mouth shut and performed to the best of his abilities! :duh: :kickass: :plush: :puppet:

He must feel like the worst jinx! Like No one is served being coached by him even if they do well and he did well!

Holy cow! I remember about Katrina, but I didn't realize he was her coach too! Poor guy, this sucks for him.

Well to be fair Hacker was 6th when she was bypassed for 7th place finisher Meissner that year, but that aside, it is enough to make one paranoid.

While i’m not a fan of the jump technique I see in their students, I do believe he and Johansson are very good at packaging their skaters so I hope he continues to be involved in the sport after the storm clears.

TBH I think Christina Gao at 2013 nationals has way more of a wuzzrobbed case than Katrina did in 2008

IIRC, Katrina was a nicely packaged skater, but she didn't have a reliable full set of triples--missing the flip and I think was struggling with just-learned lutz. She would have been technically buried at Worlds. Meissner wasn't at her best but USFS gambled that she could put something reasonably competitive out there (she did end up being the highest US ladies' finisher at 7th place, though the US ladies team with Liang and Wagner, famously couldn't manage to keep three spots for the following season). I don't think Mitchell should use Katrina as an example of wuzrobbed.
