The One and Only Daisuke Takahashi - Because we miss him so much thread

It's official: Daisuke will be in Art On Ice in Switzerland next February 2015!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

It's has been announced today at a press conference https://www.facebook.com/ArtOnIce/p...57853828140/10152575943963141/?type=1&theater

So happy that his European fans have once again the chance to watch him live!!

I simply must go!!
Thank you - it's such great news. Good for you if you will be able to go. I don't remember the cast being any better than this time. Unfortunately, I won't be able to go. In 2013 I was able to go to Stockholm, but then the cast was not nearly as great (well, except Lambiel, Volosozhar/Trankov and Savchenko/Szolkowy - the latter had really so so programs). Eh, at least I will be able to watch videos.

New update from Dai-chan on the 2000 Days page

~~~~~~
For the first time in ages I came to a place where I used to get comforted from time to time.
This is just best to come alone, like I thought.
Especially in winter!
That early-morning mist you watch shivering!
It’s to die for!
If I come here this coming winter, will the scenery look different than before --?!
Got such thing in my thought these days…
Bye now.
Just stopping by to say I am missing Daisuke so much. Especially since the new season has started. The competitions aren't as exciting anymore. I hope he is enjoying himself because the rest of us aren't. It's just not the same without him.
I know, it's really not the same without him...
Anyway, here is an interesting talk with Kenji Miyamoto and Daisuke from a couple of weeks ago, as part of the promotion of Kenji's TV program "KENJI's Room" with Daisuke as November's guest.
How he reached to the decision to retire---. He talked its ordeal and the truth he confided right before the announcement!
Mr. Takahashi announced his retirement a few days ago. As a 2nd guest, he joined this program, “Figure Skaters’ Oasis ♪ KENJI’s Room” at JSPORTS of BS broadcasting newly started in October. The truth is, he had not made his decision to retire at the time of shooting and this turned out to be his last TV shooting as a competitive skater. The host Mr. Kenji Miyamoto, who is his choreographer as well as his drinking buddy and a good elder brother figure to him off ice, is the listener of Mr. Takahashi’s honest talk.
According to this talk, he had decided not to do any practice at all since the last ice show held in summer until right before the new season to start. Mr. Takahashi, who has been leading Japan’s boys for many years, said that he has been skating hard in competitions “so that he wouldn’t lose”. He says, after the last season he went to his third Olympics, “At times it was hard even just getting up to go to the rink let alone doing practices. I thought, in that case, it should be better to stop it altogether and then later switch my mindset for the shows so that I can do a head start a month or two before. I don’t think it would do any good to practice half measures.” --To continue to compete or to retire? He shared his true feeling; he dared to walk away from skating so that he can wait and see if his motivation rise.
He talked about the private part of his life openly, such as, the story of his going to a remote island to give a rest to his body and soul that have worked for the last 4 years. Furthermore, he revealed that he found a new hobby while he was recharging himself. “To be a do-it-yourself Sunday carpenter. No, it’s not that full-fledged sort, but I bought spray cans and paint or what not… To have them a hand-made feel, and I will try arranging my room with them,” said Takahashi san. Miyamoto san, who was poking fun at him on that at first saying “why?” admitted that he thought Daisuke’s room looked pretty cool when he visited it. Bringing his great sense into play, he announced that he would challenge to make a book shelf in the program.
He remembered his childhood, “I was a grandpa’s boy and hated group life or activity”, and he admitted, “I haven’t skated with so much of a goal to aim for, and I didn’t start skating because of someone I aspired to be like, either. I’ve just been skating because I enjoy it.” He talked about the history from when he started up until now, and his own “ideal skating”. Also the talk about Japanese skaters Takahashi pays attention to with an eye to the future of Japan’s skating. With other topics including, “Yes, it happens!!” talk but a sad (?) skater’s version that only he can share, the figure skating talk between the two of these old friends is a must-see!
Dai's first interview after retirement - occurred on 01st November and aired on 08th
Dai updated the FB page of new book 2000days - Thanks to Iz Wind for translation
Update from Dai-chan:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now the subtitle, that is pretty hard to choose…

Looking back to this and that, while so much happened up until now, I’ve come to see that every single day, both the good ones and bad ones, they all piled up to create who I am today.

And therefore I have chosen this, “Those days I spent will push me to go forward”!

It’s still the same way from now on, one step at a time, one day at a time.

I’ll get a hustle on again tomorrow ~~.

See you then.

Thank you for the very cool video Aftershocks. It made my day and I hope that one day Daisuke sees this video so he can truly see just how unique his skating is and why, to so many around the world, he will always be "the one and only".

Here's a little something to miss him less, at least for a while.

Recently he has been awarded a Special Achievement in Sports Award by the city of Kurashiki.
The award ceremony has been held at the newly renovated Kurashiki Ice rink where Dai-chan started skating as a child.
For that occasion he appeared on the ice with his first coach Sasaki sensei to teach local children and he skated to part of his Vancouver 2010 Olympic program "La Strada".

A few videos from the celebration with Dai skating to La Strada and from Daisuke as a coach.

Content Takahashi: 'I don't have a desire to go back'
Posted 6/12/15 by Lynn Rutherford, special to icenetwork
http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2015/06/12/129353190
Excerpt:
"It was rather an abrupt decision," Takahashi said. "I was originally planning to think about it for a year or two, to decide whether to continue competing or not. But I didn't enjoy the feeling of hanging in the middle. I decided to draw a clear line and move on."
...
"I realize my fans weren't ready for this," Takahashi said. "I didn't give them an opportunity to enjoy my 'final' competition. I apologize to my fans for my abrupt retirement."

Takahashi plans to stay in New York for at least a year, and hopes to grow fully fluent in English, a language he understands quite well but is sometimes reluctant to speak. He also plans to enroll in dance classes in Manhattan.

ostile17, thank you for latest updates. Dai and Nagamitsu sensei are so sweet together. Without the troubles they have faced in the past, they both look younger.

Does this mean he is back on the ice?

I hope so!!! And it's not a strange idea.

Daisuke is supposed to regain his shape on ice soon, for his show "Christmas On Ice" is at the end of December :cheer2::cheer2: and time flies.....

When he comes back to NYC he has to fix on/off ice practice in an already busy agenda with English school and dance lessons. Better to start early to get his feeling with the ice once again :plush: (I know this emoticon is named Plush.... we need a Dai-chan emoticon :lol: )

BTW... here is Dai announcing officially his Christmas On Ice

Thanks ostile17! Dai-chan's jump looks effortless! His comments are to funny.

Don't worry Dai with a little bit of practice you will regain your jumps.

Thanks ostile17!!! So precious!! and thanks to Daisuke Takahashi Road to Sochi for translation!!

Great!! Long time since his last 3A on ice.... Sochi 2014. And after 5 months without skating.... it's quite good. Just a little bit and Dai will nail it. He will regain his gorgeous, magnificent and fierce 3A!!

Anyway, I hope that he is not pushing too much all of a sudden. His poor knee....

ostile17 - Dai writes that Saya Ueno is filming.
