Her exhibition is now ongoing in the city hall of Ibaraki prefecture. It's the final spot. And it's invited by the local government as one of the PR events for 2019 National Athletic Meet in Ibaraki. It's also a memorial event for coming MTT show scheduled to be held in Ibaraki in August.

Here is a clip of the opening ceremony. It's fun to see her fans call her name "Mao-chaaaan" and said "I luuurve you" and "Me too" "Me too" "We all too." And in the end someone called the governor (by "Chiji"). And then everyone laughed. What a fun and heartwarming scene. :giggle:

The original Mao Asada Exhibition was organized by Takashimaya which is one of the most popular department store company in Japan. Their events have finished and announced they donated 960K yen to Save The Children Japan.

Thanks for all the links and information, rosewood. Do you know if any videos of Mao's exhibition performances will ever be shown or available in video?

Performance? You mean skating? It's an exhibition held at a hall in Takashimaya department store and the city hall of Ibaraki prefecture. Costumes, medals, skate boots, photos etc are shown in this exhibition. So no skating.

BTW, I somewhat assume you don't visit Mao related threads in GSD. If so, please visit Thanks Tour thread and Japanese news thread. I posted updates there.

Here is a lovely futuristic space routine choreographed by Mao and performed by Megan Nepa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svp0KRxWMcw
No, it's not Mao's choreography. The girl participated in Mao Asada Trophy held during Skate Japan. Mao gave the participants a theme. It's "future." And the video's title says
future theme from Mao Asada

Watch this clip.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1Vx-X5B9iQ

Mao was the judge. 93 skaters from 8 countries participated in MA Trophy. The youngest skater was 5 yo and the oldest was 58 yo. Happy to see Mao enjoyed the competition a lot. It's kinda recreational competition. Mao wished skaters perform freely without thinking about complicated rules of IJS.

Sorry for that, rosewood. I changed my post. I did like the program even if Mao didn't choreograph it.

Don't say sorry. Thanks for posting the video. I enjoyed the program. Probably Mao did too. :)

ETA: In the rink I noticed it was written 'Mao Asada Trophy 1st'. So I'm expecting it'll be held next year too. In a news clip Mao jokingly said "I want to compete in it [=Mao Asada Trophy] next year. Oh, is it mean I'm making a comeback? :D" (Of course it's a joke. Don't take it serious.) She sounded having a lot of fun all through the event. She also skated This Little Light in Me as an exhibition for the participants and their families in the stands. Adding to the competition she appeared and taught edge works and how to show beautiful body lines in the skating lesson where Mai was invited as a instructor.

BTW, the event was held in one of her home rinks. Saitama stop of Thanks Tour will be held in the same rink too. Mao's contributing to expanding the popularity of this sport in that local area. Also I'm happy those 93 skaters had a good time performing in front of a legendary skater Mao. :)

So happy to see Mao's contributions to the sport in her home country.

Just came by to add that Kanako recently went on a variety show and mentioned that Mao is a shaved ice connoisseur. I know that Mao loves food and is a foodie, but I had no idea she was that into shaved ice. Seems like she just can't get away from ice! :)

I'm still here. I'm somewhat concerning about backlash from people who are related to older shows against Mao's new show MTT. I don't say much about this. Anyways, I'll follow a bit more of Mao's journey on this forum. Loved all the programs I posted here!

ETA: I edited this post and re-linked to better videos but there are still some programs that I can't find or I have to be patient with worse ones. I intentionally put the links in a kind of random/mixed order with heavy and light programs so that you guys won't get tired. :)

rosewood, I pray that the floods and landslides in Japan will go away and that people can return to their homes and be safe (including you and your family).

@gotoschool, thanks a lot for the kind words. It's terrible to see the number of dead people increases every time I watch TV. I pray things go better for everyone and no more people will be affected. Mao live (back and forth) in Tokyo and Nagoya, so I think she's safe. I live in Tokyo area and I'm safe too. The affected areas are mostly in Western Japan and Shikoku island. Mao visited Ehime prefecture (in Shikoku island) a few weeks ago for meeting her fans who came to see her exhibition (costumes, medals etc). That prefecture is terribly damaged by this disaster. My thoughts go to them.

Here is a video of her visiting Ehime prefecture for meeting her fans there.

Although Mao is not skating in 'The ICE' this summer (because of her own MTT), she still visited the last performance of 'The ICE' yesterday. She was in the audience to watch the 2nd half of the show. After the 'jump battle' (which was in place of the traditional 'dance battle') at the start of the 2nd half, the MC of the battle, Oda, introduced Mao as a special guest among the audiences. It is reported that Mao watched through most of the 2nd half and left before the finale.

It's reported else in the twitter that, Mai skated right after the jump battle. She skated her FS (same as last season) perfectly without mistakes. Mai was really happy after the performance and she skated to the side where Mao sat to give Mao a wave of hands and Mao also replied back! Mao also gave stand ovation when Mura finished his performance.

It's just nice that Mao is still in support of 'The ICE', after all, she's been in the show for such a long term and I think she's happy to show her support of skaters from younger generation.

I read an recent interview with Australian skater Kailani Craine and there was a whole section dedicated to her admiration for Mao. :)I knew Kailani admired Mao before but did not know that she was greatly inspired by Mao's "Bells of Moscow" at the Vancouver Olympics, which is her favorite program from Mao. She finally got to meet Mao at the 2016 Worlds where she recalled being very nervous at first to meet her idol but described the experience as amazing. She also adds that Mao is one of the greats that will be remembered and that she had an unique style. It's always great to see younger skaters describe their admiration for Mao. You can read more at this link:

I've never thought this could be possible, and I think it's been in the wishes of many Mao's fans that the performances from 'The ICE' can be digitized and distributed. And finally, the dream comes true!

'The ICE 2017' show recording will be released in form of B-ray and DVD, as just announced:
https://news.dwango.jp/news/31295-1809

(NB: it's the performances from 2017, not the show this year, but the one from previous year when Mao did her farewell performances with The ICE)

In the DVD, it will include the show performed in Osaka. But other parts from Aichi shows such as the intermission surprise with Lori interview, and the finale surprise with all the Japan skaters skating to Mao's Rach 2 will also be included.

The release date of the DVD is Oct 17th. And all profit will go to 'Support Our Kids' project( http://support-our-kids.org/

I'm also holding the same thoughts....besides, it would be much easier to get consent (to make MTT into DVD) from 9 other skaters than the whole group of skaters both domestic and international!

I sure hope that a broadcast of her tour will be available sometime in the near future.
Whenever I revisit her old programs, I find that Mao's versatility was greatly underrated imo. Compared to her competitors, she was more willing to not only try different music but different styles of skating. Mao had two primary choreographers, Lori and TAT, who were polar opposites more or less. I find her skating to be quite different when she skates to a Lori program compared to a TAT program. Over time, I also liked how she was able to combine aspects from the two to form an unique style that was even more intriguing and fascinating. Two of my favorite programs, Ballade and Ritual Dance, were in a way a combination of Lori and TAT styles.

And happy BD message from TAT :TT1:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BoH5yYSg8ek/?taken-by=t.a.tarasova

I went to MTT this past weekend. It was too bad that the only ticket I managed to get was for a Saturday show. There MTT team had a little happy BD ceremony for Mari-chan who is a member of MTT. Reportedly they did a surprise present for Mao at the final show in Yamanashi on Sunday. (I'm expecting @cohkaix will post something about the surprise present done at the show on this thread too. :D)

I was happy to see Rika's comments about how big an inspiration Mao was for Rika after her LP performance at NHK, though the translation on google is rough. https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20181111-00000082-sph-spo

"I'm quite happy because I was able to do a very good performance in the free. I had the impression that the jump was more stable than I thought with almost perfect acting." As for her first achievement in Japan, she said, "Nobody has yet realized the feeling of doing things that haven't been done (laughing.) It is still the first race of the (GP series) I am thinking that there is really much more, so I'm thinking about only making it as close as possible to Mao Asada (who I adore), "smiling. If you go up to the podium in the next French cup, the GP Final (December 6 - 9, Canada / Vancouver) will be visible. "I got the first place and I got a chance, so I want to aim for it."

It isn't only what a great athlete and artist like Mao (or Midori before her) achieves, but also how much they can inspire and serve as an ideal for skaters in the subsequent generations. While it honors Mao's great achievements, it is also a great gift for the fans who watch. I never thought I would ever see a performance ihat inspired me with such a marvelous sense of artistry, athleticism and emotion like some of Mao's best performances again, but I felt something very close to this with Rika's NHK freeskate, but they each have their own own unique style and charisma.
