It's September 25th in Japan now. So, Happy 27th Birthday Mao. May all your Birthday wishes come true when you blow out the candles on your cake. Thank you for creating so many beautiful and inspirational moments on the ice that are timeless in their excellence. May you enjoy your days of retirement, but please come back to grace us with more magnificent exhibitions skated the way you wish next year.

Here are some more 4K videos of Mao:

Here's an interview from yesterday's event and new CM release.

A funny episode from this interview:
The interviewer asked Mao, if anything has changed since her retirement announcement in April?
Mao: um...when I was still competing, I couldn't eat up a whole bag of potato chips. Just the other day, I told Mai: 'What should I do, Mai, it's 12 in the midnight and I've just finished up a whole bag of potato chips!' And Mai replied: 'Oh, everyone does that! Mai do, too, that's okay! No worry!'

The interviewer followed up asking: and the flavour?
Mao:....chocolate.
I: That's high in calories...
Mao: yes!
:D

I wish she would get into coaching or doing choreography.

I think that when she was younger she wanted become coach, she likes kids. I don´t know about choreography, I do not think she's interested, she's never choreographed for herself or for others. Or maybe she is shy about it.

I heard that Mao had worked on the choreography for the new Jupiter with Lori Nichol and it was very beautiful and powerfully moving choreography that did a great job of displaying Mao's love for children. I have also seen Mao do improvisational dance moves that really impressed me when posing for the camera like when during the exhibition with other skaters at the Worlds 2016. Mao has also done some wonderful spontaneous choreography while skating in commercials before. So, for all these reasons, I think Mao would be great as a coach and choreographer. But, I have no idea whether she will or not because I have no idea what she is thinking.

some updates from Mao's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZ_MKOhAibk/?taken-by=maoasada2509

According to the descriptions to the updated photos by Mao, it seems that she took a trip to France! She must have enjoyed a little vacation there and brought back sets of antique chinas (the tea sets reminded me the one she got as presents to her Aichi resident award :))

I love those tea sets!!, by the way, I had never been in France and I decided go because of Mao last year, when she competed there, I loved Paris but I was more excited to see Mao .

What is this? https://www.instagram.com/p/BaGiK8ng9CT/?taken-by=maoasada2509 Is Mao having again a radio program?

It's a TV program for a special event called 'Tour de Tohoku'. And Mao is working as a 'navigator' to the TV program.

And yes, it's announced that Mao will take on the challenge to run Honolulu Marathon (on Dec 10). There will be full report and a TV program devoted to that to be broadcast in Jan. 2018:
http://www.tbs.co.jp/sports/honolulumarathon/blog/
(Here's a video of some initial practice)

At the end of the video, Mao says her goal to finish the full marathon is by about 4.5 hrs (this is because Mai finished the Nagoya marathon some years ago with the record of about 4.5 hrs, so Mao wants to accomplish that record as well)

Go! Mao-chan!!

Adding: Instagram of the TV program http://www.instagram.com/tbs_honolulu/

Thanks to Yude for posting a translation of this article posted by nolangoh about Mao running the marathon.
http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/new...00399000c.html

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?38067-Mao-Asada/page282 post 4221 and 4222

My favorite part of Yude's translation was this,
At the time Mao started practicing for the marathon, she had some confusion, but she gradually transformed to the runner style. The anxiety of the left knee that was hurting her at the end of her competitive career also disappeared. Mao: I want to keep running in my future life with this full marathon as a chance. The goal of Honolulu will be a good start for the next."

I am glad that Mao found a new long term goal that motivates her and gives her peace of mind. I wish Mao the best. May she keep her eyes on the finish line and take it one step at a time.

It was announced on Friday that Mao has been awarded with 'Kikuchi Kan Prize' of the year from the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Literature.

Webpage of 'Kikuchi Kan Prize' (in Japanese): http://www.bunshun.co.jp/shinkoukai/award/kikuchi/index.html
About 'Kikuchi Kan Prize' (from wiki): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kikuchi_Kan_Prize
As explained in the wiki entry, the prize is in honour of achievement in aspects of Japanese literary culture. The prize is awarded to either individual or group, in diverse genres from literature, movie, culture, journalism, entertainment and sports. There have been several awardees from the field of sports in the past, but it seems Mao is the first figure skater to receive the award.

The reason Mao has been offered the prize (rough translation):
'Winner of world championship and GPF for 7 times, also winning the silver medal at Vancouver Olympics who succeeded the jump triple axel for 3 times. Afterwards (she) keeps on with brilliant performances on ice that leave deep impression in people hearts beyond mere records.'

The award ceremony will commence in early Dec. Congratulations!

Through out Mao's career as a Junior, Senior and into retirement, Mao has had a unique ability to move my soul and emotions deeply and inspire a transcendent sense of beauty in me in a way I have never seen before in a skater, which has compelled and still compels me to watch her magnificent performances over and over again. She inspires me and many others from around the world to try and write comments expressing the powerful affect of her extraordinary performances which bring renewed vitality to the expression poetry in motion. This is why I think the Prize for the Promotion of Japanese Literature is perfect for Mao.

The Ex with Takashimaya has moved to Yokohama starting from yesterday. And Mao again showed up during the first day of the Ex. She was there to distribute the 'Mao Onigiri' from the CM she shoot for Niigata (Mao's Instagram):
https://www.instagram.com/p/BaY4nk_gbDj/

Note there are several photos..Mao looked so elegant and graceful in that kimono, greeting everyone and handing out the onigiri. It's reported in the news that she picks the kimono as the colour resembles the colour from ears of rice :).

And for today, Mao is in a public panel discussion on the importance of sleep (sponsored by AirWeave). The 1 hr panel discussion was actually broadcast live online and the video can be found here (scroll down the page and to video (3)):
