what does this mean? Mai will be skating with Taka?
https://twitter.com/asadamai717/status/884366955850878976

Mai went for skating practice and ran into Taka. She hasn't seen Taka for a while and it was good motivation to skate with Taka. (Note it is the ice rink at Osu. I wonder if Mao and Mai have been practicing and preparing for 'The ICE' there. Since we've heard before that Taka and Mao had been seen practicing together. So they're probably just sharing the ice and practicing together...and perhaps Mao's the one who took the photo ;)) As far as I know, both Mai and Taka will have a solo number to their own for sure (Mai said earlier from her twitter that she has a new number choreographed already, and Taka's number has been announced for PIW-Tokyo). And for other numbers and collaborations...well, it's less than a month to find out!

BTW, if anyone remember the 'SLIDE' video by Tekken, the Japanese Comedian. Just recently during the 'Japan Expo2017' in Paris, Tekken finally released the full version of 'SLIDE' video, which is in form of flipbook and based on Mao's story. Now we can watch the full version here:
https://youtu.be/crnk__up1cs

It's very touching (and powerful background music by Tchaikovsky!)

Here is Mao's beautiful Jupiter Program at Cup of Russia 2011 and step sequence for Liebestraum in 4K with surround sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo5OFhYDzUc

Here is the long version of an animation about Mao's triumphs, challenges and tragedies that I think was inspired after the animator saw Mao's extraordinary SOchi LP. I don't know if I have seen the long version of this before. This was just recently posted:

I don´t know if this is recent, but here is Mao with Taka watching a sumo match, she looks so pretty and relaxed :)
http://magicaleggplant.tumblr.com/post/163185155263/mao-and-taka-watching-a-sumo-match-in-nagoya-719

That was from yesterday!
They went for the sumo match to cheer for Hakuho. As the news link below, if Hakuho had won, he'd have been making a tie with the all-time most win. Unfortunately, Hakuho didn't make the record yesterday. (And as results of being defeated, the fans threw cushions and some of the cushions fell on Mao's head :p). Taka is in good terms with Hakuho (there were several photos with Hakuho in Taka's IG). And it's nice to see that Mao is also enjoying her life and looks relaxed.

http://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/...o-fails-first-chance-equal-mark/#.WXAB2YSGPX4

NB1.: just adding, this gymnasium where they watched the sumo match is also where 'The Ice' will be held, after the sumo tournament is finished in Nagoya.
NB2.: NHK was doing live broadcasting of sumo matches. So yesterday when they were doing live during the match, the camera took close-up shoot of Mao, and the announcer said in the background: 'ah! It's Mao-chan! There's Asada Mao-san! and there's also Kozuka Takahiko-san.' which is really funny!

Some updates on 'The ice':

Finally, Chukyu-san came alive(!) and is starting to provide us with some updates about 'The Ice', which will be about a week away.

- Mai is doing the demo of the audiences' dance during the finale of the show:
http://fs-theice.com/
(they decided the theme of the finale dance would be on Mao (of course!). So these poses are taken from Mao's previous programs, including 'Mary Poppins', 'I got rhythm', 'Por Una', and 'Rach 2' [final pose]. But the finale dance this year seems quite challenging...)
- and if anyone notices from Mai's dance demo, the T-shirt she's wearing will be on sale:
https://twitter.com/ctveventkawa/status/887965868033843200
- the cover of the pamphlet this year:
https://twitter.com/ctveventkawa/status/887969970784657409
- this clear folder will also be on sale during the show:
https://twitter.com/ctveventkawa/status/887968461674041345
(unfortunately...as the cover folder include all the skaters to be skated in the show this year, I guess that means this is the complete list, and probably no more skater to be added. So no Patrick and no Carolina this year....)

Another un-confirmed piece of news: it is from twitter, that there will be a live piano solo accompany Mao's skating during the show. Right now we know that the pianist is Yoko Suzuki. And Mao used Suzuki's recording of 'Ritual dance' in her very last competitive SP. But it's unknown if Suzuki will be at every show, and which number she and Mao will collaborate on.

but the cast is still amazing, Satoko, Shoma, Adelina, W/P, P/T, Daisuke, Akiko, Mirai, Jeffrey :cheer2::swoon::biggrinbo. A lot better than Stars on ice USA, in my opinion :shuffle:

Kanako was interviewed on tv and it is a segment where they ask her about Mao, I am so glad read that they are so close :).

T: You’ve been close to Mao-chan since you were very little?

K: Yes. Mao-chan’s sister, Mai-chan, is the same age as my sister. So when we both had fights with our sisters, they would say things like “Little sisters are so this and that”, so we (Mao-chan and I) said things like “Elder sisters are so this and that!”

Y: Here is a recent picture of you two.

All: What is this?

Y: It’s like as if Moeyan from Nuubula Yahho* came back!

K: It’s because we both have license for scuba diving, so when we both decided on our retirements, we went to Okinawa for a getaway. That is a picture of us when we went diving there.

Y: Because you both retired around the same time?

K: Yes. I’m with her almost everyday, so if I don’t see her for a week, I get Mao deficient.

T: You’re with her almost everyday??

K: Yes. When we’re both in Nagoya, we still practice together every morning. After that, we go eat lunch together, and we both love kakigori. So we talk about things like, “Let’s go to that kakigori place tomorrow” and we go there.

And you can read/watch the complete interview, Kanako confesses her long-time crush on Artur Gachinski , so cute and embarrassing, thank God they've never done that to Mao

More on 'The Ice'

Taka's IG post (Kanako also posted in her IG the same photo):
https://www.instagram.com/p/BW_4Upqg1Ot/?taken-by=takakozuka
It's nice to see Kana, Mao and Taka sharing the rink together (looks like the rink at Osu?)
(Taka in his most recent IG photo mentions that the rehearsal for the show starts tomorrow! He's in Osaka now~)

Adelina is also on the way:
https://www.instagram.com/adelinasotnikova_2014/

To add: Chukyu-San in the twitter mentioned that, for the show this year, they won't have arrangement for inviting up-coming young skaters. Obviously they have other arrangement for the show, hopefully something special.

Can't believe the show will be less than three days away!!

NB: the earliest TV broadcast (Osaka show) will be on Sat. Jul 29 16:00~17:25, by Fuji TV. From the twitter it's confirmed that Midori Ito will be one of the commentator! :cheer2:

Wrong forum again? This thread was in Trashcan and got moved here inexplicably. There seems to be a glitch of some kind. This happened to two other threads in Trashcan.

ETA- Just saw Sharpie's thread and post in the 'Board Business' forum. They are working to fix the problem.

I'm responding to your post here @Spun Silver. :)

This year's THE ICE was really touching. How great it was that the first half of the show was contributed to her decorated long career with numbers which Mao skated in the past. It was fun to see skaters' past numbers too. It was spectacular to see Kozuka copying Mao's stsq from Bells of Moscow. :respec: I also loved Jeff's own Bells of Moscow, Pan/Ton's Liebesträume, WeaPo's Sing Sing Sing and of course Daisuke's Rach 2. Mao with a long skirt in Ritual Dance LP in the end of the "special Mao medley" was like watching a character from the famous musical movie.

Mao was so beautiful beautiful beautiful at any moment in the show.

Here are photos from Mao-Jeff's Madama Butterfly from the finale. Fuji TV was too fool to skip this number. I'm really :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire.

Seems the story was like Cio-Cio san had a good time with Pinkerton in her dream and then she came back to the reality that he left her. And she ends her life. Jeff really suits the role of Pinkerton. I even wish they'll create a whole new show of Madama Butterfly. :encore:

One thing I'm concerning was that during Fuji TV's broadcast Mao said "I'll get as difficult as 2A back till THE ICE." Also Lori in the same broadcast said "It's the final time to have you(=Mao) in this room." (The room was the one where they always selected/edited musics for her new programs.) Lori also said something like "Staying in the same world is easy. It's important to have a new step in a different world. It's a beautiful moment." I wonder what Lori meant. It might be that Mao will not work with Lori for choreography any more, or Mao will leave shows.

And I heard a rumor that someone posted on twitter that s/he took a surgery on his/her knee. And the person was told by someone that the surgeon also did surgeries on popular athletes like Mao and Shuzo Matsuoka (a former tennis player). It sounded the person was told so by someone in the hospital but it's not clear who told so to the twitter user. So I'm not sure this twitter user's tweet is reliable or not at this point.

Seeing Mao popped an axel and fell on a 3Lo made me wonder if she actually took a surgery at some point between Japan Nats and THE ICE and she's in the process of recovery/rehab. And if she feels she's not satisfied with her body to continue skating, she might leave shows.

That said, today she landed all her jumps on the second day of THE ICE. It seems her condition was better than yesterday. I wonder if she herself keeping her eyes on her condition/performances during THE ICE tour. And after THE ICE finished, she'll decide her future plan.

Anyways, I'll root for her what ever she'll decide. :)

Q&A from the first day of THE ICE:
(my rough translation)
Q: Thoughts after finishing the first day?
Mao: I couldn't afford to be relaxed. When I was skating, I was surprisingly so nervous.

Q: What kind of show do you wish it will be?
Mao: There were lots of supports that made me able to continue competing. I wish my gratitude will reach everyone during this show.

Q: Your future plan?
Mao: After finishing this show I'll make a new start. At this point I just want to run the whole tour with good performances.

Q: Any thoughts on directions?
Mao: I have various mixture feelings in my thoughts. I can't say any clear idea right now. I'll take time to consider after finishing THE ICE.

Q: You had a fall in your performance?
Mao: If I'll continue skating as a pro, mistakes will not be forgiven. I felt sorry today. If I continue skating as a pro, I need to continue training from now on.

Sorry for my long post. In the end of it, I'll post lyrics of the number which Mao & Kanako skated to together.

Tabibito (=traveler)
(my rough translation of the excerpt)

We are still halfway through this long journey
We are not even aware of where will be the end of this journey
One thing that we're sure is
It will be a beautiful place
We are two travelers with no names
__
I saw lots of contemporary ballet movements in Elegie. It can be her new world to challenge. I couldn't watch Wind Beneath My Wings without tears. We all know the hero she meant was everyone around her including her fans with no names like us @Spun Silver. ;)

Love Mao. Love FSU. I had great time these several years with you guys. xxx

I love you @rosewood you better not leave us forever, you're one of my favorites and keep me from going completely insane here on the forum sometimes.

Thank you so much for everything you've done all of these years, you should be given a giant plaque, a gold medal, and a trophy for your contributions IMO. The ultimate fan, the example that we should all follow for our favorite skater(s), you rock. :respec:

I could not agree more. @rosewood perfumes this whole board with her beautiful spirit. Do what you must, rosewood dear, but talking about us in the past tense breaks my heart a little more. Thank you for all the info and possible updates in your post. I like your interpretation of "You Are the Wind." :)

I hope Mao's fans will let her know we don't care if she can't do her jumps any more. She dances on the ice and that is enough. Yes, bring on the ballet, and let us keep watching the exquisite footwork and edges. I LOVE the idea of Madama Butterfly on ice!

Thanks rosewood for all the behind the scenes information, including the interview with Mao and the great news about Mao's jumps in the second round of performances. But, it does make me miss seeing these performances even more and the air of mystery about Mao's future is keeping me on the edge of my seat as well.

Also Lori in the same broadcast said "It's the final time to have you(=Mao) in this room." (The room was the one where they always selected/edited musics for her new programs.) Lori also said something like "Staying in the same world is easy.

I saw lots of contemporary ballet movements in Elegie. It can be her new world to challenge. I couldn't watch Wind Beneath My Wings without tears. We all know the hero she meant was everyone around her including her fans with no names like us @Spun Silver. ;)

Love Mao. Love FSU. I had great time these several years with you guys. xxx

Thank you so much rosewood!!. I also noticed to Lori saying about being last time in that room and my heart stopped like 6 seconds :fragile:. I doubt that Mao does not want to work with Lori again, so I guess she is thinking about retire from shows. But it is so senseless, if there is someone who can to skate without jumps and shine is Mao, in fact it is a big opportunity to explore new things, I am sure that jumps take a lot ot time to practice and concentration in the performances. I think Sasha Cohen did not do many jumps in her professional career. And Mao totally should collaborate more often with Jeff, they were born to skate together. Dream ice dancers.
Anyway, if Mao decides retire, we all know that she can´t stay away from the ice rink, even if only to practices, then, if she feels better in the future she could come back.

I read in tumbrl that the song they skated to, is a song that they listened to a lot during their trip in Okinawa after deciding upon their retirements. They choreographed this program together :)

Those lyrics are beautiful and so perfect for this point in their lives. Thanks so much rosewood for all the information and translations you've provided for us! I hope Mao will do shows for years to come (and give you reason to continue visiting FSU)! :)

I love "Wind Beneath My Wings"--a beautiful, poignant performance to everyone that supported her throughout her career, including the fans. :) The white dress is gorgeous--very Kwan-like.

I also really enjoyed the Ritual Dance with the longer version of the red dress. She and Daisuke had great connection in the beginning. I hope he talks to her about his skating tour company idea. ;)

Does anyone know what happened to the special thread on Mao's retirement? It seemed to have disappeared and when I tried to access it, I got an error message.
