There's a new ice dance team for the US: Vanessa Pham and Anton Spiridonov -Reported by Anything GOES

The tweet links to an entry list for a summer comp in Quebec. From the list, we can see that Harris/Chan are still a team, I guess they just didn't get a GP, hopefully they can get one if a spot opens up. And Deanna/Max are entered in pairs. Pairs and dance should be great events there.

If Harris/Chan are planning to compete at the Quebec Summer Champs it rules out most of the reasons why they might not have got the GP spot they should have (split, serious injury, one of them is the mysterious doping case in the ISU powerpoint). And they're listed as representing AUS, so presumably not a country switch either. Which leaves the remaining option: a cock-up. Hopefully they'll pick up the Skate Canada spot which Grimm/Savitskiy are planning to vacate.

Agreed. The only rationale I can think for leaving them off is that their WS position as #24 somehow placed them behind the JWC medalists on the priority list - which makes zero sense to me since both Tkachenko/Kiliakov and Grimm/Savitskiy rank behind them on the SB and WS lists.

And those are just the teams that competed on the JGP last season. Italy, Germany, the USA and Canada all had additional teams that didn't make it to the JGP last season who will surely be in the mix. It's shaping up to be another very exciting season!

Can't wait to see how the Peals, Mullens, Fradji/Forneaux, Nguyen/Giang, Tali/Lafornara, Zehnder/Sieber and Pidgaina/Koval (and Kudryatseva/Karankevich if they decide to stay on the JGP another season) step up to push Grimm/Savitskiy. I'd have to handicap those 10 teams as the pre-season JGPF contenders but I also expect Perrier Gianesini/Blanc Klaperman, Mouaden/Bigot, Slatter/Ongay-Perez, Ilin/Cain, Dovhal/Kulesza, Kishimoto/Tamura, and Lin/Gao to be nipping at their heels and any of them could surprise us and sneak into the JGPF.

The depth of ice dance on the junior level really is astonishing!

Also, @Belsornia, you can add Madison Tong/Michael Boutsan and Audra Gans/Gabriel Liu, both for Canada, to the list. And Martina Lavazza/Raphael Meunier and Alessia Rocci/Davide Pettigiani for Italy. Terrific job on that list! :respec:

Even allowing for that, on same rules as previous years, they should have got one spot before the likes of Smart/Dieck getting a 2nd spot.

Or Orihara/Pirinen, Neset/Markelov, etc. There are a lot of teams that got 2nd spots who were only entitled to one.
Those three teams are all high on the entertainment scale. No idea if that impacts selection but wouldn’t be surprised.

Exactly :)
I personally would enjoy seeing Smart/Dieck or—especially—Orihara/Pirinen, more than many other teams that may have somewhat better scores

If Harris and Chan have earned a spot, they should get it.

I'd be happy to see them.
Oh, I agree! I have seen this team compete live, and enjoy them as well—I did not mean to suggest that they are lacking in any way.

My assumption on seeing that they did not receive an assignment was that they might be splitting/taking a season off/retiring etc.

WS and SB 24 are supposed to be guaranteed one. JWC are eligible, but not guaranteed anything.

Not that the ISU follows or enforces its own rules or anything.

I'm aware of the GP rules. I'm the one who noted, first, over in the GP assignments thread, the Harris/Chan oversight.

Which is why I wondered why you suggested there was any rationale within the rules for them to have been superseded by a JWC. I don’t see any rationale within the rules.

No, neither do I, but it clearly seems that is the rationale that seems to have been applied across all disciplines. Caldara/Maglio are WS 22 in Pairs with the season-end update and yet they also did not get a GP while Williams/Lewer as JWC bronze medalists DID get a GP.

Mrazkova/Mrazek working on choreo:

Surprised to see Jean-Luc performing without Kaitlin at The Ice. I wonder if she’s just done entirely? I thought they would continue to perform together.
Hopefully they will. In The Ice, Jean-Luc isn't performing solo, just in the group numbers, along with Satoko. I think he and Satoko were announced with the cast as "navigators" which I thought meant they'd be doing choreo, but it looks like it's a role that performs with the group but not individually (I think Yuka Sato is doing all the group number choreo).
