The Carolina Kostner Thread

She already did: 10 euro medals.
Okay, I'll be literal: Kostner does not compete in men's skating so she can't break men's records.

She is indeed tied for most Euro medals by a singles skater with four men and can pass them next season (though who knows, maybe Plushenko will unretire). I believe Rodnina has the highest number of Euro medals in all disciplines.

I would never assume that a skater is a lock for a win or a medal, no matter how much I'd like them to be.

She will, I'm sure (but you already know my opinion about it). :) And seems like she will compete in Milano 2018 too. So it'll be 11 Euro Medals (which will represent a Men's record), 2 Olympic medals, 9 Nationals and 8 Worlds. Impressive.

I find most of your comments here really irritating, and I say that as a huge Carolina fan. Please take it down a notch or you will drive people away from this thread who would love to discuss Carolina's actual skating and not some hypothetical statistics on medals and record scores.

bigger victim of the whole Sotnikova farce than Yu Na IMO.
all Russian skinheads and bigots, the few who still care about figure skating, and a few idiots like yourself perhaps), and the sport is far better off without her and with the exquisite Russians who are way better skaters and way better people and sportswomen who actually earn their wins with top quality jumps, spins, programs, and skating skills like Medvedeva and Pogorilaya, and act like classy women on top of that rather than a spoiled entitled brat.

??? :argue: :argue:

What about talking also on Plushenko and Yagudin in this thread? Lala and me don't irritate each other, so it can be the longest discussion ever, if Lala will support me. :yikes::yikes::yikes:

Oh my. I would much rather she skated to something less fractured and more glorious

? I trust Lori not to overdo the wacky hands, and Carolina's ability to use modern classical music really sets her apart. Plus Faun has a lot of beauty to offset any weirdness. I think it will suit her perfectly. She is not unlike Tanaquil LeClerq who first danced the Jerome Robbins ballet version.

I think you could be right. I got terrified by the descriptions in the article claiming Najinky originality and costuming.. I then watched Janet Lynn's exhibition and one of Carolina's own performances. Lovely. No weird dresses and only few Egyptian hands. Phew!

There was a Russian Skater who skated to it. I loved his interpretation but can't remember his name

Gotta love Google

I think whacky is a plus. She will turn this wonderful piece into something no one else can really do. Kind of like Nichol's Da Falla programs for Mao. If she can get her technical (jump) side up to standard the judges would go for it. She could be a real threat.

She could be a real threat.

No "threat". :) She'll medal for sure. There's a reason why Plushenko names her "Medal". :)

She told in a recent interview that she has not decided her music now. She will decide together with Lori when she will be there

I'm hoping for something new, new programs for Milan and Pyeongchang. I loved her Afternoon of a Faun, but I'm already worn out on skaters rehashing old programs for next year.

What ? A new Afternoon of a faun ?
Her 2011 LP is a masterpiece and probably my favorite Carolina's program. I don't want Mishin to put anything in this choreo ! :scream:

Did her last season's programs look to you like Mishin had something to do with them choreography wise?

Because it is currently front page, I had to check in with the Carolina fan thread, of course! :inavoid: And, as an unabashed Carolina fan, I had to comment. Had to! :p

Since we are (somewhat) discussing musical choices for the season and the pros and cons of those musical choices, re Carolina, and what she will ultimately choose to skate to, I feel that she can basically take any piece of music and make it into a signature masterpiece… Too much gush? Yeah, sorry about that. :sheep: :slinkaway

On a serious note, whatever musical choices Carolina decides to skate to this season, SP & FS, whether it is an edgy beat or a classical masterpiece, for me, it doesn’t matter, I believe that Carolina will make it work. She will make it memorable! Much like her Canon, which had a more modern twist to it, at least I felt at that time. Caro’s performance was very nicely done, and no one since Peggy, IMHO, has interpreted that music as well. It is a challenging piece of music to skate to for most and Peggy kind of owns it. However, two classy women managed to make magic with it.
I see medal talk up thread? Plushy? :plush: Predicting? A vision of gold, silver or bronze? Well, that would be sweet, for sure! But, honestly, I think for Carolina, it is more about the journey she is on right now. Still, a girl can (golden) dream, right?! :) Because you just never know…

Article by Hiro Yoshida: https://europeonice.com/2017/06/12/carolina-kostner-resets-her-goals/
Kostner’s sights are now set on next season with the European Championships in Moscow, where she won her first World medal back in 2005, the Olympics in PyeongChang and the Worlds Championships in Milan to look forward to for her. This will be the third time for her competing on a global stage in her home country after skating at the 2006 Olympics and 2010 Worlds both in Turin. While some might see it as a perfect ending to a long and illustrious career, the Italian has made no decision as to when she will hang up her skates.

I lost track: Is Kostner still with Mishin?
Or back with Huth?

Or is she just attending IceDome

As far as I know she splits her Training between Mishin in St. Petersburg and Lori Nichol in Toronto. But she also is on good terms with Michael Huth. She once said, that she would have stayed with him if he would be elsewhere and not in Oberstdorf. So I think since they´re in Val Gardena, near her home, she took the chance to practice with him there and spends some time at home with her family.. Only few days ago she posted a photo of herself at home on FB or Instagram.
