Thanksgiving

Rotisserie chicken (Haven’t had turkey on Thanksgiving in at least 5 years, I think it’s overrated.)
Cornbread dressing
Mashed potatoes
Chicken gravy
Macaroni & cheese
Haven’t decided on dessert yet - but probably some kind of pie or cheesecake
Alternating between ice water and Coke Zero

Will wear my laziest clothes while I stuff my face and watch the National Dog Show (Noon ET on NBC), DVR stuff, and Netflix.

:D

I'm planning the same thing as the last time I hosted (too busy to try anything new)

Turkey, hopefully with gravy
Classic bread stuffing
Mashed potatoes
Southern sweet potato casserole
Cauliflower au gratin with Parmigiano cheese
Either green beans or brussels sprouts steamed & tossed with olive oil/lemon
Some type of bread or roll (purchased)
Pumpkin pie (if I can get one at the bakery)
Guests bringing 2 desserts

We'll also have snacks beforehand. Nuts, corn nuts, popcorn, Polish snack sausages, cheese plate or goat cheese (Whole Foods) with crackers, and I might make some fried salami if I have time :-) (sounds weird but it's good if not exactly fat-free :-))

Drinks-- We usually have champagne

Our family is pretty large, so everyone chips in. Along with the usual Thanksgiving fare, my contribution will be:

Spinach salad w/almonds, mandarin oranges, red onion, feta cheese, oregano, lemon pepper, dressing made with half Italian and half olive oil

and a version of Benedictine finger sandwiches: cream cheese, cucumber and bacon

I'm Canadian and so we had our thanksgiving last month. But I'm happy to celebrate it again if I want to!

I've never done a turkey before as I wouldn't even know where to start. I'm also bad at roasting any types of meats. I prefer braising and stewing so I made a big pot of curry.

My favourite is Trinidadian curry so I basically followed the recipe below but made some adjustments to my own taste.

It's not very thanksgiving-y in a sense but it was still super-tasty.

The one type of meat that I can roast well is pork belly. I recently tried this Chinese Trinidadian crispy pork belly and it was amazing. I will probably make this for my family next thanksgiving.

Turkey and gravy
Mashed potatoes
Cranberries
Stuffing
Green bean casserole
Rolls (bread)
Pumpkin pie
White wine

My family often has corn with the dinner too, but I don't think that's on the menu this year. We usually also have a plate of relishes (pickles and whole black olives) that gets passed around at dinner.

Deep fried Turkey
Smoked Ham
Cornbread Dressing with Giblet Gravy
Mashed Potatoes
Cranberry Sauce
Corn Casserole
Broccoli & Cheese Casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Sweet Rolls
Sweet Tea
Sweet Potato Pie with Marshmallows browned on top
Pecan Pie
Carrot Cake
Coconut Cream Cake

My nephew makes the Carrot Cake. He got the recipe from a chef that works with him out in the gulf on a huge barge. I make the Sweet Potato pies. The recipe was one of my mom's, and I've made it in honor of her every Thanksgiving.

I'll be with family at my stepmom's home which isn't but 20 miles west from where I live.

Have a safe trip for those who are traveling. <3

Wow, that’s a feast for the Food Network. People must be be dazed when they get up from that table!

Believe me, it is. We have a big family over for Thanksgiving. It also includes one of my aunts and uncles and their family. They also bring a dish. So there will be even more food. Everyone usually makes them a plate to take home so it won't be so many leftovers.

I imagine I'll be taking a nap when I get home tomorrow evening. :lol:

We are Canadian, but we've always done American Thanksgiving! (Since Canadian Thanksgiving is so close to the Jewish high holidays we usually skip it, and my mom is a huge football fan so she always took the day off work!)

Turkey (Gravy and cranberry sauce)
Stuffing
Apple cranberry spinach salad
Cornbread
Sweet potato casserole (with marshmallows!)
Apple pie
Cherry pie
Pecan pie

I'm babysitting my friends toddler tomorrow too so she's going to be my little helper!

Most of this meal was requested by our adult son who is flying in and wanted the meal his grandmother used to make. :)

Appetizers:
Pomegranate, pine nut, basil and queso fresco salsa with tortilla chips;
Andouille & chicken egg rolls.

Meal:
Turkey;
Cranberry sauce;
Cornbread, sausage, & mushroom stuffing;
Mashed potatoes;
Sweet potato casserole (lightened up);
Fresh green beans with sautéed mushrooms;
Angel biscuits.

Dessert: Pumpkin pie w/ whipped cream & banana pudding. .

I added a link to the original post. It couldn't be easier!
Thank you! If you don’t mind one more (dumb) question, do you crunch the pomegranate seeds or swallow them whole? Those things have always baffled me.

I will definitely try that recipe out next time we have company.

I'm going to a potluck dinner, so I don't know what will be the full menu, but since there will be more than two dozen there, there should be a good variety. I know that there will be two turkeys and two kinds of dressing/stuffing. I will be bringing a scalloped corn casserole and (if I get my act together early enough) a couple of sweet potato pies. I made some last year for the first time ever and they turned out really well. Unfortunately I can't find the recipe I used last year and have no idea which of the many recipes online is closest to it. Guess I'll just pick one and trust that it will be OK. :shuffle:

It certainly is, and the Blue Bunny Vanilla will go well together with the Apple pie that @topaz had listed on her menu. It also goes well with Peach Cobbler. YUM!

Turkey
Uncle Jimi's brown sugar fried carrots
Peas
Corn
Mashed potatoes
Homemade cranberry sauce
Stuffing (wheat bread, Craisins, etc.)
Rolls

Pumpkin pie
Waffle cone ice cream
Vanilla ice cream
Chocolate ice cream
Almond cake from IKEA

We're doing our own thing at our house Friday after in-law madness on Thursday.

At our house...

Turkey
Dressing
Gravy
Hawaiian rolls
Green bean casserole
Cream corn
Mashed potatoes

For dessert, I bought pumpkin pie, my husband is making whipped cream, and I'll be doing a chocolate dessert of some kind for people like me who hate pie. And ice cream! I also was going to cut up a bunch of fruit.
