Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

Oh but can’t they? I guess were the hypocrisy comes in. We here so often his fans that we want to see clean, accurate judging. If they bring the skate of their lives, why don’t they deserve record-setting marks? I would think his fans of V/M we would expect the same thing for them

Ok by the same standard..if V&M skate lights out..they should be marked even higher then...

Won't matter anyway..I fear we will lose the Canadian judge later today when the replacements are picked & the luck we have..the French & US judge will remain on the panel..which will basically mean we are ****ed!

Absolutely. Unfortunately with the different styles of the program it will come down to interpretation and preferences as often happens in ice dance.

Well there really is no comp here if V&M skate this program clean & perfect & are leading..they should remain on top & win..as much as everyone wants to make this a big rivalry..it's NOT..P&C are not close to V&M as of now & should not be judged like they are..end of story!

So just curious, how did the lose to them in the GPF then?

V&M imo did not skate well in either portion at the GPF..they seemed to be forcing it & both made little errors once in SD & FD..they were tight too imo..

What I am trying to get across is that IF BOTH skate great clean programs tonight..V&M should STAY ON TOP! Nothing more nothing less..simple

We know that tonight's free dance panel is guaranteed to have Spain, China, Slovakia, and Poland on it as they weren't drawn for the short dance. I wonder which 5 countries from yesterday's SD panel will be drawn again for the FD. P/C seem to have a majority of the panel on their side given how they outscored V/M on components with the skate they had last night. Obviously, we want Canada picked again for the FD panel :D. Scrolling through the team event protocols and the SD protocol, I think we should be hoping Japan gets drawn tonight based on her SD components. I would also be happy with Ukraine (based on her 3 10's and 2 9.75's in the team event FD and SD last night). Same with Israel and his 3 10's and 2 9.75 in the SD last night and team event FD). Although both Ukraine and Israel tied us on components with the French last night, at least it wasn't an edge to the French. When you start looking beyond that for V/M friendly countries, the pickings get pretty slim in a hurry. :p

I'm hoping V/M skate tonight like they did at Canadians. They have stunning performance and interpretation qualities with MR. The absolute commitment to delivering a performance, the way they exude feeling to their fingertips, the way their body movements express the character of the music, their captivating nuance and finesse - I hope they're rewarded tonight. My concern is that the lead from the SD can almost be erased with one step sequence level 3 instead of 4 (a 1.5 difference). I don't believe V/M have ever received over 60 as a technical score in the free internationally, so hopefully skating last, the level 4 calls are flowing. Has anyone else been singing parts of their free dance to themselves today? I have! :)

My wish for them for this FD is that they have the Olympic moment they are dreaming of. That the last lift with Scott throwing his hands up in the air brings the crowd (hopefully larger than in the SD) to their feet and they get the standing ovation they deserve. I want them to be blissfully satisfied and happy with their skate and proud of themselves. I want them to dare the judges to not put them first. I so, so, so wish and pray that they get the gold medal they deserve and I will cheer them on every step of their skate. Being a Tessa and Scott fan has been a wild ride and I pray it will end on a perfect note.

yeah exactly...say what? I'm more concerned about VM skating clean because their program is much more intricate...the first half is a minefield

If they can go out there and have to skate of their life and they can win. Right now it’s in their hands

Absolutely. Unfortunately with the different styles of the program it will come down to interpretation and preferences as often happens in ice dance.

And this is what is wrong with the sport. If one reads the technical manual/judging manual for ice dance, there are definitely criteria to differentiate these teams. It is not nearly as subjective as people like to pretend. In the PCS and GOE marks there are points about variety of intricate holds, difficulty in elements, flow in and out of elements, balance of work between partners and so on. The criteria talks about whether or not the team interprets the chosen music, not whether or not people like the music. If both teams hit their levels and skate lights out, V/M should be getting the nod because of this criteria. The detail, difficulty, balance between partners, seamless connections and transitions in a variety of holds is unlike anyone in the competition. Yes, P/C are beautiful. But they do not match the criteria as much as V/M who are also stunning. If both skate lights out, they should both get scores to match what they skate. But with V/M ahead to begin, the result should be V/M with gold. P/C should be thankful they are still in 2nd. With wonky twizzle, not solid lift, and a tight skate, if they were judged with the standard used against others, they should have a score around 77. Their scores last night were not right, and not fair for the rest of the teams. Judges and tech specialists need to follow the rules, or IOC and ISU should step in and make them. If they don't, in a few years, there won't be ice dance in the Olympics. This is not like "the good old days" when people just accepted that deals were made and reputation matters. The newer generation expects justice, fairness, accountability and transparency. Without these things, people will not participate and sacrifice their lives and incomes for the sport of ice dance.

I am usually pretty good at judging ice dance but one thing i cannot understand is how in the HELL Papadakis and Cizeron's NtMiSt4 was given the exact score as Tessa and Scott. It's nowhere near as difficult. I get the Grade of Execution being high but the steps... no way. Can someone make it make sense to me? I should read the rule book. The steps HAVE to have some way of being called. It can't be judges saying... "well... hmmmm... give this a level such and such but give that team this level just because it's what i think". I still don’t get it and it's not because i think Tessa and Scott can do no wrong. If you are a skater, you know full well how complex and HARD Tessa and Scott's steps were. I didn't think it was possible to do what they did on skates.

I also think that their rotational lift at the end of that packed dance is WAY more difficult than the strait line lift that Pap/Ciz perform though their lift comes out of nowhere. I am a fan of both teams but i clearly want Tessa and Scott to win. I'm not blind though just because i prefer the Canadians. I am having trouble getting behind the French for the same reason i stopped enjoying watching Adelina Sotnikova... the effin judges!!!!! The judges overlook the mistakes of the French and the shit is not fair. The syncronized Twizzles were not great as a element or a feature of the program and they were shaky... for good reason but that's something they should take into account accepting scores that were not nearly as high.

I do believe that now, Tessa and Scott picked the right free dance because it caters to the thing that they are in my opinion better at than the French which is the skating skills and ability to handle incredibly complex choreography well. Their technical skating is impeccable and it's impeccable while achieving out of this world execution. I also really dig it now. I pray they skate lights out and I pray the judges are fair. The Moonlight Sonata that Pap/Ciz selected with Gabby in that blue dress that makes her look like a goddess however is a masterpiece that is Olympic worthy in every way. I’m all for this matchup but only if it’s fair.

Did Jayne Torvill say something negative about V&M SD? I just heard someone say their fans are now attacking her for critiquing the SD?

Where are they attacking her? also was Jayne commentating the SD somewhere? btw I won't be that surprised considering who coreographed PC's SD. You don't have an idea of the hatred that there is in figure skating world. even in the same rink different coaches can hate each other so bad. Fusar Poli screwing CL at EC anyone?

I think anyone has a right to be critical of V&M's SD to be honest. It is an out of the box take on latin. Personally, I love it!!

NONE of them can deny the technical difficulty though.

Who cares if her preference is for another team. It is her opinion.

Someone just posted today on twitter about V&M fans now being critical of Jayne Torvill's critique of the SD or something like that so I assume she said something negative about them..

this is what I found: "Saw an interview with Jayne Torville this afternoon and she said V/M 'overperform' and distract from their skating in her opinion."

Haha says the 1 of the 2 biggest performers ever in ice dance..they said years ago that is what you have to do..to reach the audience, they use to do it all the time.

She's just salty that people are giving their reserved title all these years of the "goats" to V&M now..

I was always a huge T&D fan but after that comment..she is deleted..
