Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, #46 : Until the End of Time

It's so awesome seeing all the videos and listening to commentary from former ice dancers, like Ben Agosto, long time people like Chris from Eurosport talk about the brilliance of their program to the music and be stunned by it and am so glad to have this thread to share in their happiness. Thanks everyone for your positive comments on a brilliant performance by V&M tonight.

Tessa & Scott were in a class of their own yesterday!

I admit that I didn't like their program at ACI but this time it was a different story.
Tessa's body isolations give me life in the first minute of it and their pattern is so powerful / crisp! I think Tessa toned down some of her expression and now it's perfect.

The camera & lighting also made it much more pleasant to look at.

What is the lady commentator saying around 4:57 mark after (... and it isn't always the case, you think it top level ... that there would be no (incomprehensible blablabla ?) ... but really stands out. ) What is she saying there? I am not a native speaker of English, please help me? I can't even repeat that phrase that she enunciates here let alone understand the meaning.

This is what I have:
"Transitions within the music were as good as transitions on the ice; beautifully edited musical transitions and that isn't always the case. You'd think top level they'd be no room for error in that, but it really stands out when it's done as well as that. Just sensational choices."

Late as usual but: costumes and Tessa's ponytail without an extension look great. They must have worked extremely hard and it pays off, the short dance was phenomenal. I love the first part especially. The only thing I'd point out is the constant smile on Tessa's face. I think she could make more facial expressions during the Hotel California part. Having seen that, I literally cannot wait to see the free dance, finally in a better quality!

PS: love the new haircut of Marie-France. Such a good-looking team :D

Is there another link to the Brits. The other one doesn't work on my iPad, and unfortunately, I don't have a pc at the moment. I think that it was wonderful that the "trashy" couple garnered a WR on that performance. I love their outfits, and everything they do makes me feel grateful to be able to see such incredible people, with unbelievable abilities and artistic talent. I like P/C, but really don't think they have reached the same pinnacle as Tess and Scott yet. As a very long time follower of these amazing young people, I find it interesting to hear so many comments applied to P/C's performances which have been applied to Tess and Scott in previous times. I still think that technically and artistically Tess and Scott remain the best in the world. But I must admit to being an Uber uber. Thanks everyone for all your updates, opinions, vids and pics. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

The SD is an amazing shape this early in the season! Knowing that V/M are a team that usually builds their programs to peak at the end of the season, I wonder how this look by February!

I am in agreement that their SD was amazing, and I think they have the program to beat.

That said, I still think they need to tone it down a smidge, which I think they will. I agree the Santana is out of place - my kingdom for any other piece there. And I agree about some of the sharp moves, but I do think those will smooth out and be more purposeful as the season goes on. I think Prince had moments I felt were almost awkward that were nailed by the GPF.

Really, though, I just cannot with those costumes. I'm boring, what can I say.

I just saw Ice girls had just been on French tv ( the movie with some scenes with Tessa in it) so I watched the replay. Very good movie. Wish we could have more Tessa in it but it's cool she was in it. I love that her calm comes through even through a screen. it was weird to hear her "speak" French and have a different voice but the voice was well chosen I'd say.

Is anybody watching the practice? Tessa is in a dress similar to the blue but in dark red! Scott in an gray ensemble. These might just be practice outfits, but I prefer this dress by a 1000 over the other red one.

That practice made me get into the FD like I hadn't before. I don't know if it's the way they performed it, the different outfits, whatever it was, but for the first time I was watching and not critiquing things in my head. I just enjoyed the performance and I even sang along lol. I hope they go all out like that in competition.

I don't know how I feel about Scott's outfit. I think he should be in all black, a button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and black suspenders. Lol that's specific but that's what I envisioned with Tessa's new red dress that she's probably not even going to wear, sigh.

You know, I generally hate Latin dances (I groaned when I first heard the SD rhythms for the Olympic season would be Latin, and Hip Hip Chin Chin is by far my least favourite VM program), and I was not entirely sold by this SD at Autumn Classic, but...

I first started watching Tessa and Scott when they were a teeny, tiny pre-novice team, and started telling anyone who would listen that watching these tiny kids was watching the future of ice dance. Almost everyone chided me for getting so impressed by a pre-novice team and warned me never to get too invested in a pair or ice dance team until they were safely into their senior years - one of them would outgrow the other, one or both of them would get bored and quit the sport to go to school or do something else, they would split and find other partners, they would split because they dated as teenagers and then broke up, they would stop progressing and quit due to low placements as juniors or seniors... etc. etc. etc. I knew about all of this - I had been a figure skating uber since age eight and had gotten invested in several junior or early senior teams in the past and had watched all of the above scenarios occur. But I had an intuitive gut feeling that VM were different.

And they were. And they are. And when I see them skate like they did yesterday in the SD, I just marvel at their greatness and how far those tiny little pre-novice kids have come.

This dress is amazing !!
Can't she keep her training dresses for the actual competition ? ;)

EDIT : I never watched the movie and judging by the comments, I won't until they stop performing this FD. I know the training dress doesn't "fit" the story, but not everybody watched the movie.
The movie is fantastic you def should watch it! I also agree about the dress I hope she keeps the red one she had for practice today! The other dress is ok but this one if better and a little more different than what she has worn before.

I was told that it was fantastic, but I don't really want to be lost in the story if I see V/M and just be focused on things like : "it's not that", "that's not how it ends", "that part goes too fast", because I've seen a lot of those comments... I prefer focusing on the story they tell and the skating. But I may watch it after the season :)

I understand you. When the season is over you can make it last a little longer by watching the movie maybe?

Just another quick note on the SD. The partial step sequence improved by leaps and bounds compared to ACI. We all knew it would. Especially their expression. Beautiful sequence and skating.

Also, they've been hinting pretty strongly that this will be their last season. As much as I'll miss them, I'm glad they get to go out on their own terms, skating to programs they love.

The costumes are brilliant. So glad they changed Scott's from what he wore at ACI. Live the costumes are super blingy/sparkly. You don't get this effect from TV. As a friend said to me their costumes are very Euro ballroom but also couture. I think that's a very astute description.

I also love the contrast between the super blinged-out SD costumes and the pure simplicity they wore today at FD practice. Scott looks best in the tight-fitting turtleneck look.

I wonder if the other red dress will appear later in the season or for the team event in Sochi.

It's especially impressive considering this is a really difficult program.
