Say,when I have gone to teach myself to Ice-Dance...One thing that has always come to my mind and that I believe might be true is that when you Ice-Dance, to go foward you have to glide and then lift your foot, and keep repeating that. Can anyone confirm if I'm right about this? Thanks.

It depends which dance you're doing.

But yes, most ice dancing, and most figure skating, involves skating on one foot at a time. There are just different ways of pushing and changing from one foot to the other. That's what makes the different steps to keep the dances interesting.

@FSWer ice dance isn't just moving around however you feel to music while you're on the ice. Every ice dancer starts out by learning compulsory dances (pattern dances). All of those dances have steps that you have to follow, and you have to do the steps in time to the correct music for the dance. Some dances are fast, some are slow, and all of them have different types of music - waltz, foxtrot, tango, cha-cha and so on.

Learning to glide on one foot is really important, but there are many other kinds of steps that you have to learn to do the compulsory dances. A coach can show you those steps and how to do them safely.
