Stars on Ice 2020

For your information, here is another number of US cities Stars on Ice visited during the spring tour. I reconstructed this info using archive.org material, so accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

Concerning the winter tour:
Usually there was one or two shows around New Year Eve in Lake Placid and vicinity. One year they had Sergei memorial shows instead of usual Stars on Ice show(s) with SOI alumni.

Sorry, I missed the "spring tour" part. For years, Stars on Ice had rehearsals for weeks in Simsbury, CT (either Sep or Oct, I forget which), then another couple weeks in Lake Placid, before premieiring the show Thanksgiving weekend in Lake Placid. Then the full tour kicked off around the New Year (when it was 60+ cities, it kicked off around 12/27, and then started moving to early January, and then mid-January, and then February by 2008 or so). They only started doing the New Year's Eve "holiday" shows in the 2011-12 year, I believe, after they finally stopped going to Lake Placid at Thanksgiving. So I'm not used to thinking of it was a winter vs spring tour. It used to all be one tour! Though, wow, where did the last 8 years go?

I heard the tour started to dwindle after Mr. Hamilton retired, which happened at the end of 2000-2001 tour.

That's possible, though it took a few years for them to finally cut back on cities (see above). I believe they tried hanging the tour on Tara Lipinski but she left the tour after 2002, and then they tried to play up having both Sale & Pelletier and Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze on tour after the 2002 Olympics. By the 2003-2004 tour, they turned to having a slew of guest skaters who were former SOI stars (Kurt, Scott, Paul Wylie, Oksana Baiul, Katia Gordeeva, Kristi Yamaguchi) to help boost things, which was a change from the stable cast they used to have. But I guess those strategies all didn't work that well. I believe there was a lot of blame on the 2002 SLC Olympic judging controversy for lessening interest in the sport. Who knows if that was true.

Concerning the Canadian shows:
I remember the number of Canadian shows has been quite steady, around 12.

Yeah I don't think that has changed much over the years, just which cities were in the middle of the 12.

A group of us used to drive down to Lake Placid from Ottawa for the show when it was on US Thanksgiving weekend - we did that many times. It was sort of a "preview" of what the theme of the Canadian tour might be. I think we might have gone once since then for the late December show. We generally also attended the Ottawa show as well but not in an organized way. Now we go to the Ottawa show as a group and then do an "organized" pot-luck gathering after the 4 p.m. show. I bought our tickets on the pre-sale on Monday.

Yale’s spring break is earlier in March. (We are planning family events around a multitude of spring break dates )

Nathan only skated in the first SOI shows after Worlds in Japan (March 29-31 in Osaka) last year. I doubt he would accept more shows if he didn't think he could handle them. ETA: He is only doing the last 2 shows of the CSOI tour (Victoria & Vancouver) after his spring semester ends.

So, has Jeff Buttle been completely ousted from SOI? He didn't perform in the Canadian tour last year (reportedly due to injury) but took part in shows in other countries, and now is performing at ROI in Spain during the Lake Placid and Reading shows. Any :sekret: out there?

He's still listed as Director/Choreographer: http://www.starsonice.com/creative-team.html
Thanks Sylvia. Hopefully that's still the case. He's in Budapest presently, so unless the he worked with the skaters prior to leaving for Europe, he isn't doing the choreo for the US holiday shows. And I really hope he's added to the cast for the Canadian tour. I miss seeing him skate live. :(

He was in Europe doing ROI last year, too. I think the SOI holiday show was taken care by Tyler Miles, the associate choreographer. Mr. Miles is in the group photo from last year.

By the way, Jeff's two programs for ROI this year do not include jumps. (The videos are in the ROI thread.) I guess he is being careful, to avoid aggravating the injury further. I also remember his program for Fantasy on Ice this year did not include a jump.

I'm pretty sure Jeff had surgery, so he's probably still not completely healed enough to jump or is just easing into things.

Concerning injuries, Patrick Chan has a knee problem because of a ski accident. He says he will decide before 2022 whether he will continue skating or not.

Kurt Browning did a SiriusXM interview that aired December 13th in which he mentioned Patrick is in a good place and had his knee fixed (paraphrasing). Can’t listen to find the time stamp right now, but IIRC it was in the first half of the interview. It’s a pretty good interview overall as well.

They've also added Alysa Liu and Chock/Bates for the US shows.

For those who didn't see it in the Japanese thread, the first half of SOI Japan has been canceled. I wouldn't be surprised if the last half is dropped as well.

Just bought my tickets for San Jose! I can't figure out who I am most excited to see? Alysa? Nathan? Bradie. Kaetlyn.

I have debate about the meet & greet...............but I know I could never talk to anyone! So it is kind of stupid.

I am expecting a cancellation, at least of the first part of the tour. My stop is the 2nd one. Where and when could rehearsals take place?

I keep waiting to hear a cancellation announcement. I can't see it going forward. Makes me sad as I was rather excited to see Medvedeva added to the tour but this is life now. And people's safety is what's important.
Way to make my day worse.:yikes: Never Dreamed this was a possibility.

They've halted their Facebook ads, which is somewhat telling. Knowing IMG, they'll wait until an almost-embarrassing point before announcing.
