I have always been a big proponent that no one needs to retire to make room for anyone else and younger skaters need to beat older skaters if they want a spot.

That only works if they are ALLOWED to beat them. If the judging is going to be wildly biased, that logic fully collapses.

It also doesn't work for me if they are being bribed to stay in. If you don't want it enough to do it without a bribe, it's time to move on and let the next generation grow into the spot.

Not quite - Tara and Michelle were contemporaries. Chen had several years as the tp skater and Ilia was just entering seniors.

I mean, Ilia could have had an Olys like Nathan's first (or even Malinin's first Worlds), and not even medalled, but....... he also could have skated a blinder at a time when the US had Nathan and Vincent as potential medallists.

Nahhhhh... Ilia only had a couple quads in his arsenal back in 2022 - and he definitely wasn't beating Nathan on PCS then. But, I did think and still believe it was incredibly short-sighted of the USFS to not give him the Olympic experience since he clearly was the future for this cycle and Jason was not. And it's not as if the USFS had any plans to use Jason in the TE.

In this thread, I posted it yes. I talked to a lot of people highly involved in the sport in the stands and outside the rink last weekend. But the rumors were around apparently before I made mention of it, as referenced. I don't watch TSL and I don't use Twitter so I don't know what had been said there until this thread.

Who in Jason's team was I going to ask in Texas? Also, that's kind of a weird way to make conversation. "So how much is that monthly paycheck for showing up to these events?"
