Skate America 2021 Returns to Las Vegas

Me too. But my husband and I usually try to stay at the cheapest decent hotel (at SkAm 2019 we stayed at the LaQuinta by the Orleans and this year we booked a condo with two king beds and a couch that opens out for like $100). It makes us feel better so that we don't feel guilty if we go crazy on our spending there. It's like "We would have been spending $600/night at X, so we're saving $450/day. Let's go do some spending!!!" lol

They checked bags even before they opened the gates to let us get inside the arena. Three employees looked at every bag. The woman behind me had a bag that I would considered a “close call”. She took it back to her room.

I dont know. I would think that SKAM security would be easy to continue to check bags. They do have large events in Las Vegas, including football games. I know when we went to an NFL game pre-c0vid (in KC), they were extremely strict.
If you have security that are use to it...it will happen

Are they opening little bags inside of a clear bag? I carry a few makeup sized bags to keep things from getting all thrown together. I’ll put my snacks in my pockets in case lol.
 
Just checked into the hotel around 2pm. Plan to go to the arena but my clear bag is at the bottom of my suitcase. Room not ready yet. I will try to carry my regular purse and see if they let me in. Are the practices still on?

I arrived at the hotel but my room was not ready, so I ate my PJ sandwich and made it to the arena in the hotel shuttle. I left my bags at the hotel.

I didn't know the schedule. The ladies first group took the ice after the Zamboni. I just wanted to check out the arena but stayed because the three Russian ladies were on the ice.

My winter jacket was in my suitcase. My light jacket was at the hotel (forgot to pick it up). The rink was cold as expected but if I could stick around for 30-40 min with just a t shirt, it should not be considered 'too cold'.

Since my Clear bags were at the bottom of my suitcase, which was with the hotel front desk. I took a chance and took my regular purse to the arena. They allowed me to go in, just for today. Tomorrow I will need the clear bag. They did ask me to open the purse.

I am not a big fan of practice sessions, so I may not attend them all. Will decide later if I should just take the hotel shuttle to the Strip and walk around. I do need to see the schedule.

Since the shuttle driver was not busy, he picked me up at the arena. That was nice. I tipped him both times of course. Now going out to buy some necessities like milk, May be even some salad material. My room has a fully equipped kitchen.

I’m just coming here because I just watched the practices for the day on Peacock. And I was gonna say I thought Amber jumps look good however I did not see no triple axle in that free program practice…

I’m nervous ....part of me just wants her to go for double axles and do clean programs to get respectable scores and then the selfish side of me is like go for all triple axels lol
 
I’m really happy US figure skating dropped coin and has a very nice kiss and cry. Although we’ve only seen this updated kiss and cry in Las Vegas over the last year. I hope they have modern kiss and cries at venues going forward

Did you see her Meat Dress? It's at Haus of Gaga on the casino floor. It's the real Meat Dress too. It was preserved by a taxidermist of all things! :D

I haven't been able to talk to the hostess at the Copper Whisk. They were packed this AM and then closed at 3pm. Will try again tomorrow. The waitstaff said they do accept reservations sometimes for large groups so I am going to try that for Sat.

My Japanese friend there tweeted that the clear bag policy will be even more strictly enforced starting tomorrow (Friday). Even if you have a clear bag, if you have pouches inside that are not clear, the bag will be rejected.

Also you get a plastic wrist band when you enter the venue - she was told that "don't remove it until the end of the competitions; keep it on even when taking shower."

This worries me. I had planned on carrying cash and credit cards in a smaller bag that is Not transparent. I also need to carry my medicines. Without the cash and credit cards it would be impossible to buy food. I am also uncomfortable about not carrying my DL, which I carry everywhere, whether needed or not.

ETA-

I found three empty sandwich bags and one plastic card holder that is transparent. It is quite small and may not hold more than one card. I hate carrying cash in a sandwich bag. How to carry my glasses is going to be another problem. I don't wear them except for distant viewing, so it requires the case, which of course is opaque.

Today I had no problem carrying my regular purse which was medium size, black, and quite heavy. They did tell me that tomorrow I would need a clear bag, which I do have (actually two) but I never looked into tiny clear bags.

I took my wristband off. I’m not going out with a tacky, tight, blue plastic wristband on. I also move too much at night and would scratch myself all up. I guess I will see what happens if I try to go to practice this afternoon.

Well that is ridiculous. I don’t need the whole world to see the medications I carry with me. I’ll see how it flies at practice this morning.
