The Las Vegas Strip and casinos will begin to reopen on June 4, but this is still a pleasant surprise of hope for the athletes and the rest of us that there could be a 2020-21 international season!

Once Sin City reopens in the USA, there will be no turning back here. It seems that many Americans really enjoyed Memorial Day weekend and are ready to return to as normal as possible under the circumstances.

Unless there is a second wave of v*r*s transmission, which is how pandemics tend to work.

It seems that many Americans really enjoyed Memorial Day weekend and are ready to return to as normal as possible under the circumstances.

And some states saw an increase in v*r*s cases immediately afterwards, because many people weren't being cautious enough. The "normal" that people are used to may not be as safe as it was before.

Memorial day was Monday. Any spike currently happening is not relatable to what happened this weekend. That spike will be in about 7 to 14 days.

I realize you’re trying to make a point, but your facts aren’t compatible. People didn’t go out Saturday and wind up in the hospital on Tuesday. That’s not the way it works

Having just read the protocols for casinos which are planning to open next week, this seems wildly optimistic on the part of organizers.

Not to mention that other sporting events in arenas (e.g. NHL and NBA games) that would usually be on around the same time have been suspended and may or may not return.

I can see ice skating competitions returning to certain countries like Canada (say, in BC where the curve has been flattened). But regardless of where the competition is, everyone would have to self-isolate upon arrival for two weeks. There's no way this will be over soon, regardless of where you live. Same with all sports, every visiting team will have to self-isolate or go through a health check of some kind.

And having to self-isolate would mean two weeks without training. Not ideal with a major competition upcoming.

Hopefully by the time we start having events again, there will be a better way to test people to see if they're healthy. I've heard about 24 hour turnabout tests being rolled out but they aren't perfect just yet.

Well Considering at least one country is planning to do instant testing when you land in there. I’m not sure why skaters couldn’t be tested before they got on the plane and if they passed they were free to keep coming
I’m not saying that’s what they will do, but I’m sure it’s something they’re considering

I like this direction, it would give hope to the skaters ...

Both NBA and NHL are planning to return and complete the 2019-2020 season. They have some pretty solid plans and I expect both to be on TV by August

Planning is not the same as actually doing it. And there seems to be some significant operational challenges to actually doing what the NHL is proposing.

Actually for both the NBA and NHL October would be "next season" so the plans being discussed now are for "this season". I don't think either of them have addressed the 2020-2021 season.

The NHL has said that the 20/21 season will start in December, assuming that they are able to go ahead with any hockey at all.

I don't know if it will impact the decision on SA (and the article didn't say anything about safety precautions at the casinos...I sure hope it's not business as usual). If the ISU cancels the GP (in the translated Zhulin interview, Zhulin seems to think it will be canceled), USFS could always hold a domestic comp, or maybe a North Am comp. Taking into consideration the status of training/rink access in ISU member countries, int'l travel restrictions and the general uncertainty of a 2nd wave (and many countries are still in the 1st wave), I doubt the opening of Vegas is going to change much in the ISU's thinking. USFS may decide that since Vegas is open and assuming no outbreak, they could hold something there.

I am not worrying about it either way but the fact that an interview with one person thinks it may be cancelled could probably be offset by interviewing someone else who will say "it will go on". Until the ISU speaks it's also just unsubstantiated gossip.

True, but the ISU has likely been communicating with its member feds (or at the very least, the GP host feds), so it's possible Zhulin may be tipped off to more info than has been made public.
