Per an article linked in this Twitter:

I would suggest you book a room now. NFL schedule is released April 17 and if Raiders have a home game that weekend prices will be insane. You can always cancel and re-book if they don’t.

USFS negotiated rates for the event last time, so I'd hope they would do the same.
I’m sure they will but I am not taking any chances, the NFL pull in this country is ridiculous. For example, the Hampton and La Quinta on Tropicana have rates of 193 and 234 right now (I had both booked last year for 115 and 70). They will drop if no home game, if a home game they will go up. All hotels in that vicinity could be walking distance to the stadium.

Can anyone post a link without the Twitter part. Unfortunately I have never bothered to join Twitter and it won’t load.

Also just an FYI the NFL does not release their schedule until mid April so you have a few months to make a decision

Thanks

Awesome! I loved the arena and hotel set up last time so I'm excited to go back there in the fall. I agree with TandBFan though...the USFSA negotiated hotel rates last time with the Orleans so I would hope they do that again this year no matter what the NFL schedule turns out to be (the last thing they want is fans not coming because of another event not related to the skating). We didn't stay downtown when SA was in Detroit several years ago but I know they had a home Lions game the same weekend (they played my Bengals), so I'm curious if the hotel rates were super high during that weekend. I can't think of any other times where there was an NFL game the same weekend as a skating event. Hmmm. :watch:

Anyway, I am so excited about this news! :cheer: :biggrinbo :rollin:

I just booked Thursday through Monday at the Orleans for a total of $610 through Hotels.com, resort fee included. Can always change it if USFSA gets a better rate, but at least I know it won't end up any higher than that.

Tiff is hoping she gets Las Vegas again, she said it was a well organised comp, and very comfortable with the hotel next to the rink.

Super. Which hotel exactly? Orleans theme, I bet. (Ha ha)

Here’s wishing Tiff & Jon Another SkAm assignment!

USFS' press release is out: https://www.usfsa.org/story.aspx?id=92907&type=media
(1/6/20) - U.S. Figure Skating announced the selection of Orleans Arena in Las Vegas as the host for 2020 Skate America, Oct. 23-25, 2020, and the host for the 2021 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, Feb. 24-27, 2021.
Skate America, which will return to Las Vegas after a successful 2019 event, will be the first of six stops on the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.
Orleans Arena, which is adjacent to the Orleans Hotel and Casino, hosts prominent sporting events, concerts, family shows and other unique performances. Tickets for Skate America will go on sale later this spring.
“We received an overwhelmingly positive response from skaters and fans in regard to their experience at 2019 Skate America,” U.S. figure skating president Anne Cammett said. “The convenience of having the host hotel within a short walk of the Orleans Arena was heavily considered in the decision to return. We also heard good things from the skaters and coaches about the arena, the ice and the professional staff at the Orleans Arena.”

It's nice they are publicizing this early. I had fun, but I don't particularly love Vegas and getting there was a pain. So I doubt I will go again.

It was super fun getting to meet other FSUers, though!

If you don’t mind me asking, why was the travel a pain? There are direct flights on Southwest from BWI to Vegas, I just took one on Christmas en route to Phoenix.

@PRlady It was a combination of the timing and the cost. I forget exactly now, but I think the flights out were REALLY early. And I ended up stopping in Albuquerque on the way home. It cost the same to fly from Vegas to Albuquerque and then Albuquerque to BWI, as it did to fly from Vegas to BWI. So I spent several days in NM. I don’t know how much the price varies depending on when you go.

Oh, fun! Love Vegas. Since I need to be in LA for work starting the week after, I'll likely stop by Vegas on my way again and never actually make it to skating, just like last year. :40beers:
