Site Problem

I put this comment in my "computer help" thread without any response. I had to switch to a different browser because windows xp won't be supported by firefox anymore. Someone suggested Opera, so I installed that. Then I couldn't figure out how to get my firefox bookmarks. Once I did that I tried opening fsuniverse and this is the message I got -

"This site can’t provide a secure connection
www.fsuniverse.net uses an unsupported protocol.

The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite. This is likely to be caused when the server needs RC4, which is no longer considered secure."

Any ideas. Is there something in Opera I have to check. Or it my older computer?

p.s. this is the only site from my bookmarks that I have not been able to open in Opera.

It's just the fact that you're using a really old operating system / computer. I can certainly look in to it and potentially workaround the issue but my recommendation would be to start considering upgrading your computer.

I think @Server Guy is spot on regarding Windows XP along with Opera browser.

I usually never use my old Dell with Windows XP SP3 to surf the web with because it's a security hazard waiting to happen. However, I did try to come to FSU earlier using older laptop with XP SP3 and the Opera browser.

It's a no go anywhere kind of thing. In other words, trying to get to FSU using Windows XP and Opera browser will only lead you to Nowhere Land or Never Never Land … take your pick.

What it led to instead was a blank page that stated "This site can't provide a secure connection." It's simply because Windows XP is older than Methuselah and was created back in the days of ancient Mesopotamia. There's a lot of ruins in Mesopotamia! :summer:

Well, I was told to switch to Opera from Firefox so I wouldn't have to get a new computer right now. I can't afford it in the first place and I can't carry the old tower anywhere to get documents transferred with my broken toe.

FSU is the only old site I can't get to in Opera. Facebook, email, My Chart, the library, genealogy sites, games....... I opened stuff I haven't been to for a long time.

@Susan1, sorry you can't get to FSU. The only thing is that the security risks are so bad with Windows XP as the operating system now, and it's only going to get worse in the future.

I don't know what stores are in your area where you live, but Office Depot usually have good deals and discounts on PCs and laptops. You can also visit Office Depot online - https://www.officedepot.com/.

I couldn't really afford a new laptop when I purchased mine. I decided to go through Dell to purchase mine. I actually called Dell, and gave them the specifics about what I wanted and needed with my laptop. They really do "build one for you" with exactly what you need. I purchased mine through what's called "Dell Preferred Account" which is a credit account, and you can pay for it monthly. I paid around 30 dollars monthly, and you can pay more than that each month if you can afford it to get it paid off sooner. Should you decide to go that route, the number is 1 (800) 433-2392.
