I was reading that loud and clear, though I do have a lifetime of medical knowledge and experience.

It was stated in one the interviews that the additional health issue that Alyona had was her nerves. I think we all had a glimpse on what's happening with a teenager who was winning, was on top and then slipped down. It's a mental crisis.

Every athlete has to find their way. Sasha found the system that works for her, Aliona the same. She may have been brash but she was honest to herself. If she had the presence of mind to make this change hopefully she can meet her expectations and make the Olympic team. I hope she makes it, she is my favourite current Russian skater in any discipline, so this season hurt. Bring it on!

I think this situation highlights the difference between methods of training really well. I'm a university lecturer and supervise a lot of students. I worked in Russia and in Western Europe. The key difference in supervision is who takes responsibility for result (a student's grade). In Russia it's supervisor who is responsible to a large extent. In one of Western European countries, where I work, I only offer students advice and options, and it's up to them to decide whether they want to take my advice or not. It seems to me that it's the same in figure skating training methods. Eteri takes responsibility. Plushy gives it to student.

Eteri has been blamed for strictness of her method, and her students consistently deny this in the interviews. I think Eteri doesn't need to yell at students or be harsh or anything like that. It's a combination of external and internal motivation that makes them to obey. Plushy's method is mostly based on internal motivation. He provides resources and it's up to student to decide if they want to use them. You can probably expand this: Plushy's method is similar to North American, and Eteri's is the classical Russian method.

I think you dropped some text in the translation of ET's quote. Here's what Google gave me:

Tutberidze also said that her daughter Diana Davis persuaded her to give Kostornaya a second chance. “Diana was her lawyer, she said:“ Mom, you should give her a chance, I think God ordered you to give a chance, ”said the coach.“ I don’t want to keep this thought in my head, I must give an opportunity, otherwise the person will be left with an unfulfilled hope for the rest of your life. " [NB: She probably meant "advocate" rather than lawyer; the two words are the same in some languages, like French and apparently Russian.]
Correct. Also, this is very much in keeping with our religion, as this weekend we’ve entered the pre-Lenten “maslenitsa” week that precedes the 42-day period of Lent. Next Sunday (14 March) is Forgiveness Sunday.
Then no meat/dairy/fish, etc until Easter on May 2...no weddings, etc. Baby Muller gets married the week after Easter, for ex. 🎉 ...weddings don’t take place between today & May 2 for the obvious 😉

Oh yes, yes, Miss Chiquita. You are obviously the only mature voice in this skating group. Thank you for your very mature assessment. You may carry on, I will grant you that. You are a superstar, Chiquita. Why haven't we heard of your brilliance outside of this skate forum? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRM70Jw7F4M
It seems like the shoe fitted and you put it on?
It sometimes hurts to see the other side of the coin.
And as for being mature, I will end this discussion by saying how you react belongs to you and not to me and also that your reaction sure shows my whole point. It’s a skating board, take it with a grain of salt. Do it the FSU’s way = 🍷🍸

I was just thinking about potential ***** infections once in Sweden. All teams should have all options at-the-ready.

The USA edition of Russia One TV just ran a thorough report on AK, showing her practicing at Sambo 70 today (Sat, 6 March). Sharing the ice with plenty of kids. No new news. A provisional arrangement - next two months.
Good luck to alyona back at TT.

If she finds her form again Eteri is a genius.

Aleona look so beat down worn out and thin I am worried about her. She is mentally beaten up too. I hope she can recover.

Here is yesterday’s Channel One interview of AK & ET with English subtitles.
Thank you. She sounds like she knows what she did wrong and what she’s got to do. I’m glad they’ve given her this chance and I thought Alena handled everything so far with good grace . I think she’s a great skater and I’m sure this whole fiasco will be a maturing event in her life (and we’ve all had those maturing events as teenagers)

Here is yesterday’s Channel One interview of AK & ET with English subtitles.

She sounds just like someone who has been brainwashed:

“It became clear to me that if Eteri Georgievna were near I’d be doing everything required and even more!”

“Gotta go apologize, swallow my pride and ask for forgiveness.”

“Sixth place at Russian Cup Final is not just a shame—it paints a clear picture that it’s not merely that something is off but that everything is wrong in your life, and it must be changed.”

“I must prove that I am worthy of training on this group and that I’m worthy of their attention.”

She sounds exactly like someone who has been inducted into a cult, manages to leave the cult, and then realizes the indoctrination she experienced while in the cult was so extreme that she can not manage life on the outside and needs her cult leader back.

This is so dramatic. She has grown up, she realizes which teaching method works for her, and she knows what she needs to do to succeed. Have you and everyone else constantly trying to look for issues always been babied and had the easiest route to everything in your lives? Sometimes the most 'fun' path is not the one that gets you anywhere. Sometimes the easy A with the teacher that doesn't teach anything is good for your GPA in that moment but absolutely horrible for the class the next semester that assumes you already know all of the stuff in said class.

Some skaters don't want to settle for middle-tier in a competitive field. She sounds like she wants to work hard. THE END.

And a side note here: Joannie Rochette was dumped by coach Manon Perron after not taking training as seriously as she should and completely bombing a small domestic competition in fall 2004. She was 8th in the World and I believe she finished 3rd in that competition behind two no-name skaters. She switched to a team of coaches including Sebastien Britten that seemed to work well for her - GPFinal bronze medalist, 7-triple LP at Nationals, an outside shot at a World medal if the stars aligned.. everyone thought it was the perfect match. Yet after that season, she apologized to Perron, got back with her, obviously changed her approach and mindset, and finished her competitive career a World silver medalist and Olympic bronze medalist.

Some skaters really are content with showing up with the same exact (lack of a) program season after season, finishing somewhere in the low teens at Worlds or not getting out of their Nationals. And that's okay. Others make the effort to switch things up, work hard, and improve themselves to get to where they want to be.

The odd thing to me is that she doesn’t mention her illness(es) during the past few months. Maybe she’s just trying to put up a tough “no excuses” front. Anyway - wishing her well during this time of rebuilding.

That's unnecessary vilifying. You can think of an elite school or university or a top company in a highly competitive environment. But even among ordinary people if you slam the door and trash someone, you apologize if you feel that you need to come back.

By the way, it might be also the translation. Alyona's words don't have that much pathos; she sounds quite normal. She doesn't look or sound defeated. It's probably also edited for the sake of TV drama.

Alyona is not my favorite among Russian skaters, but I feel sorry for her because the amount of blame towards her is unnecessary high.

I think she is already training there; she was shown as practicing there in the Channel 1 piece
I see that. and i also see that it is very easy to dismiss Angels of Pluschenko financial claims.
- Kostornaya came to his Club, with lots of "everything" invested in her for 3.5 years. By Pluschenko's logic it is he that needs to compensate Sambo. He took in a European/GPF Champion, and let out a 6th place finisher fr the Russian Cup Final. I am quite sure, if Pluschenko/Rudkovskaya have ANY brains, they will drop this issue, and quickly.

Now "the finances" will be on the mind of those skaters who are/were considering skating at PA.

There are few other "rumors" around. Trusova's family is much deeper in financially with the club. People saying that Sasha's father was addressing an issue of personal business loan for his own business (not skating related). If he took a loan from Pluschenko, or Pluschenko arranged a loan for him, as a 3rd party, that would be hard to dissolve. Plus "Pluschenko built all these cottage and letting Trusova use one of them"... if they split, it would be a mess.

Good heavens I have not heard it take like that. The plushy needs to compensate sambo and why. Interesting and I like it.

I think it was a mistake for his wife to go public and the skating Lessing guys on YouTube say they spent about $560,000 on Alyona. It's probably 5 times that with Sasha. Not to mention in a possible loans for sashes father.
When money talks people walks in the promises for sasha and alliona were probably grandiose.

But making an issue about the money will make top talent in Rusdia leery about joining PA in the future unless the contract is to the incoming students liking.. Or more likely to their parents.

PA training methods are so much different than TT.. Sasha is super vote motivated and a beast Alyona is not and struggled and Corona virus did not help. If e.g. Makes her a world class skater again aliona will benefit and Eteri will benefit big time

Eteri, pays attention to the details. EP doesn't know what those details are yet. Trusova though is a very hard worker and Morozov could do good programs that would suit her style. Provided she doesn't hurt herself.

She (Trusova) is allegedly already hurt. I swear each competition I see more and more K-tape. I hope whatever is going on with her right leg gets taken care of during the off season. I hope she doesn't overdo it for worlds either.

If Plushenko really spent that much on one student for 9 months of training, that’s ridiculous. I understand Kostornaia’s funding this season went to Sambo 70 because she changed coaches outside the transfer window, but there’s no way it costs over half a million US dollars per person per year to train and costume a figure skater. I like Plushenko, but if that figure is true, the joke is on him, and it certainly shows you can’t solve a problem just by throwing money at it.

Also, I thought Trusova’s dad and family are lawyers — surely they would be savvy enough not to take out dodgy business loans via a figure skating super star and his oligarch wife. The rumors on these fan boards and on TSL are super bizarre (although rather fun to read).

Maybe, regarding coaches, it just comes down to style. Some people are self-motivated, some aren’t. Many people, especially at the age of 16, 17, learn about themselves through trial and error. I think Alena had real guts to apologize and say where she’s at, and I think Eteri did the reasonable thing by giving her a chance to train at Sambo 70 again. I think it could have worked out with Plushenko too, but Alena might have been operating out of anxiety — both times she switched — and now she’s seen the grass on both sides and can be more realistic about what she wants. I’ll be interested how she does. Shame about those wasted Shae Lynn Bourne programmes, though. I thought the music was beautiful in both...

That injury occurred at Rostelcom. She skated fine at the channel 1 event. She'll be at worlds

Not at all! Her mother is a housewife with 3 kids and her dad is a coach or something like that (https://24smi.org/celebrity/40625-aleksandra-trusova.html). She's from Ryazan', a regional city in Russia.

As for money that Plushy requested, I have seen in media two numbers: 40 million and 4 million rubles. Don't have time to google it know, but it might be that one of them is wrong. 40 million rubles (0,5 million USD) looks unrealistic to me, but who knows.

Plushie requested $40m from who.

The 64,000-Rubles question:

What’s happening with Hot Sergei? 🔥
Staying with Plushy.

I was hoping he would return to TT with Aliona because there are so many kids to be coached and in an olympic season the top two coaches EG and due to cough are going to have their hands full with Anna KV and aliona. But there is no chance of hisvreturning to TT. I think EG is a little bit bitter that he left and then took her skaters with him.
