I am surprised not to see Medvedeva and/or Zagitova given assigments. Any word on what their future plans are?

Medvedeva has just posted more photos from another Cosplay photoshoot with Kristian Kostov (Eurovision fans might remember him from 2017): https://www.instagram.com/p/CQwBmcVMQCF/

She is also doing Pairs with Enbert for Averbukh's "Anna Karenina" show. I think she has other things on her mind than competing atm.

Thank you! Most helpful! It seems Maiia has a good shot at a silver at Cup of China, right? So of course she'd get the TBD at Rostelecom. What are they saving it for? Med returning with a quad sal?

Maybe Nugu or Konstantinova or Samodurova....The Russians will see what happens in first events, the Russian cup events, and challengers since they have lots of time to decide.

Oh please, NO MORE Konstantinova! She has worn out all her brownie points. One thing I noticed with Russia's GP entrants is that Sinitsina is the only one from CSKA to get a GP. Is this CSKA's final hurrah in terms of their leadership in Russian Fed? We know Team Tut would take over, but maybe Sinitsina was helped politically by being the only woman from there? It made me stop and think.

Sinitsyna is represents Snow Leopards, not CSKA

Can you please explain this to me. So, it's only Buyanova and her students that are "CSKA"? What about the SnowLeopards? Same rink but different association? It seems the CSKA had a drastic fall from grace. They lost/slandered upcoming students like Gubanova, Tarakanova, and who knows how many more. Is Davydov consider CSKA or just "another' coach there? He is by far more successful than Buyanova or Sinitsina's coach whose name I know but can't think of. Skating experts: What exactly is CSKA? I'm totally ignorant and want to know what I'm talking about. Thx.

Panova is Sinitsyna’s coach...still?

Why Sinitsyna? Two events, no less. Relative youth (magical age of 16)? The 2020 Youth Olympics medal, just before COVID?

Looking at sheer skating skills and what one sees on the ice (beauty, sleekness, musicality, elegance + jumps) why not Anna Frolova over Sinitsyna?

Sinitsyna seems to be coddled.

Well Medvedeva is making all sorts of waves by hinting a pairs career - either professionally or competitively. Even the idea of show pairs is very interesting to me.

It’s so good the Russian skaters have options in retirement at the moment.

North American skaters just seem to have to resort to trying to be Instagram influencers. Which is a bit disheartening - particularly when really interesting athletes just end up as dime a dozen influencers, it sort of erodes the mystique and aura of their careers.

Because she has a high season best from 2019/20 season (215,58 points) that allows her to get 2 Senior GP events?

Compared to, say, Khromikh, who got only one event? Let’s see how they all skate and where the chips fall.

Khromykh's SB is 198,24 also from the same 19/20 season and her World ranking is also lower than Sinitsyna's.
I know but...c’mon...there’s also plain common sense. Whoever makes these decisions should just LOOK at current reality and not depend on historical numbers.

It is not the Russian federation who allocated the GP assignments though. The federation submits the names of the skaters, but then it is up to the host countries who they invite, and they are basing the selection on the season best and world ranking. Why would they skipping a skater who has better world ranking and higher season best for another skater who is lower but is Tutberidze’s skater?

Snow Leopards is a completely different rink/club, I believe in a different part of Moscow. Maria Sotskova spent her junior (and younger) career there, as did Alena Kanysheva. Anna Frolova is also originally from there but switched to CSKA around a year and a half ago.

CSKA is historically the most prestigious club as it's the Red Army club. Buyanova is still coaching there and her attention seems to be on Artur Danelian atm. In recent (10+) years, she has always seemed to prefer to focus on one or two skaters, as opposed to having a huge group like Tutberidze. Davydov also coaches at CSKA and has a number of promising young girls, such as Sofia Samodelkina and Anna Frolova, who should do well on the JGP this fall. There are other coaches at CSKA, such as Svetlana Sokolovskaya, who coaches Mark Kondratiuk and Alexander Samarin. It seems to me that CSKA is still doing ok. :)

I keep forgetting that Frolova is younger than Sinitsyna, by a whole year. Frolova seems more mature. I thought that she was way past consideration for JGP.

Article based on Medvedeva's recent IG Live: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CQv3gMtqp5h/
Machine translation:
Two-time world champion in figure skating among singles Evgenia Medvedeva said that she wants to learn how to skate in pairs.
According to Medvedeva, she wants to push the limits of figure skating.
"At one point, I realized that I want to be more versatile, so that the audience would be interested in looking at me during ice shows. I wanted not only to push the limits as a loner, but also to learn how to skate in pairs. I really wanted to, I couldn’t do anything. And then the coaches advised me to contact Alexander Enbert. I just asked him to teach me, and we started skating together," Medvedeva said during a live broadcast on Instagram.
"This all happened even before I was invited to the Anna Karenina show and was offered the role of Kitty Shtcherbatskaya. And I did not tell anyone about this. And at one of our training sessions with Sasha, he approached and said that he was given the role of Konstantin Levin So we found out that we would skate together, "added the skater.
The premiere of Ilya Averbukh's production "Anna Karenina" will take place in Sochi on 9 July.

We playfully make fun of Frolova's packaging. It's like she's been transported from 1945!! She could pass as a young Lauren Bacall. Yeah, her packaging is OLD!!! lol. (I love her skating and presentation too)

I think it’s a great idea for Medvedeva to diversify her show skating by adding a pairs factor.

There’s going to be a lot of the Russian girls entering the show circuit - probably as soon as next year we might even see some of the current bunch retire and go into shows.

So it’s important for her to have something special to stand out.

So true, it's not really interesting anymore
