Was there ever a doubt?A FauxLympics.
Was there ever a doubt?A FauxLympics.
All three of them -- gold, silver, and bronze! And they'll win the team medal, so there!
Apparently, they've considered it.China didn’t host two Olys because TPTB don’t care about Oly prestige. They might have pulled back from skating but they invest a lot in other sports. I can’t imagine they’d compromise their internal image of succeeding in matching or bettering the West just to play footsie with pariah Russia.
I think the probability of it being passed into law is high. It is a very strange - almost isolating - move for a country that prides itself on being "the best in the world" in many sports. My assumption is that this move is just for current propaganda purposes and won't actually pass into law. Or if it did, they'd just repeal it after the competitive ban is lifted. I think?![]()
Who knows. If they will no longer accept any CAS decisions re sanctions of their athletes, repealing a law will not make any difference to those that have been sanctioned. It seems they have no interest in returning to international competition if they have to abide by the same rules as every other country does. But if the Russian sports federation doesn’t recognize the authority of international sports governing bodies, how can it eventually return to international competition?? (That’s why my thought was they’d repeal it later on, if they pass it in the first place.)
According to whom?Apparently, they've considered it.
there were rumors on some of the Russian sports pages. Nothing substantial, but rumors. Whether they are serious or not, remains to be seen.According to whom?
OTOH, the person on the China thread who seems to keep up with Chinese sports rumours doesn't agree with this, so... Very much seems one-sided.there were rumors on some of the Russian sports pages. Nothing substantial, but rumors. Whether they are serious or not, remains to be seen.
I don’t see a clear and obvious involvement from Russian in Chinese Olympic sports teams except for the Chinese RG team which indeed hire a Russian coach at this moment.
It is propaganda rather than a concrete action plan for me.
Russian skating is going to wrack and ruin. The ban is having its intended effect. And, several of the girls and coaches are eating the ice cream.
Coaches eating them too.Russian skating is going to wrack and ruin. The ban is having its intended effect.
IKR? Compromising principles in times of crisis.Coaches eating them too.![]()
No, it's in February. They're using this for entry into nationals since the usual route is for senior skaters with a GP assignment, juniors who medal at the JGPF, and winners on the Russian cup series. Some junior skaters (age wise) are skating the senior events and some the junior events so I guess the highest ranked juniors will still be invited to senior nationals. I think that's the case in any event based on the web page, but I could be wrong. Will there be sort of a fake Russian Grand Prix final at the same time as the real one?
Well not-Russians skipped fakeGP is a good headline, we have to admit.Davis/Smolkin are skipping the fakeGP
Honestly I'm almost driven to uberdom by the sheer chaos they have provided skating this season. I just love mess.Davis/Smolkin are skipping the fakeGP
Given that the story is that he’s applied for a green card (residency) he can’t leave the country til that’s resolved.Davis/Smolkin are skipping the fakeGP
