Russian figure skating news in 2024

Yeah, I think that somewhere in the 65-67 range for her SP is likely. Also remember, she is going to be skating first in the SP in Beijing at the OQE (and in Milano-Cortina for that matter) because she has no WS points. We saw what happened to Nargiz Sueleymanova skating first in Boston - she had a lovely program but got hosed in PCS. Even skaters like Nini An and Ahsun Yun, who have some international reputation established but were skating #7 & 9 in the SP, only managed PCS in the high 5s & low 6s - granted, they both had disastrous SPs, but the judges weren't handing out PCS like candy and I don't expect that to be the case with the OQE - and it definitely won't be the case at the Olympics.

I really think the PCS reset is going to be a lot more impactful than Russia realizes. Add in the tech panel taking a sharper eye to her rotations than has happened to Russian women in the past... It will be really interesting to see what happens at the OQE and how Eteri recalibrates between September & February to maximize Petrosian's scoring potential.
If she picks one war horse for her sp music and gets 6 does she switch to a new war horse for Olympics? There is almost nothing you can do technically in a sp more than what she plans. Changing a triple toe to loop in combo doesn’t add that many points. Probably best to do war horses. Judges like them!

Well, I'd say she probably would be better off changing her content and going for a clean 2A with +3 or +4 GOE rather than continuing to try for a sketchy 3A. If anything, it takes away the temptation for the tech panel to take a microscope to the rest of her jumps, which can only be to her benefit. But Adelia's still really going to be hindered by the start order. Heck, even Alysa was hurt a little by an earlier starting spot at Worlds with regard to her PCS - she was 4th in PCS behind Kaori, Mone & Isabeau.

I just have a really hard time believing she's going to get PCS on the same level as the very top tier (the 6 US & JPN women, Chaeyeon, Loena & Gubanova) with PCS ranging from 32-35. I expect her to be in the next tier in the middle of the 29-31 PCS range in the SP (Schizas, Haein, Pinzarrone, Repond, Petrokina, Gutmann, Samodelkina, Sauter, Mikutina & Kurakova).

It’s very tricky because:
To combat low PCs you may need to risk it and go for 3A and also Established skaters can reduce difficulty and hope for more GOE but that is a strategy that may not be available to Petrosian. The judges don’t know her. She may only get +1 for a great double axel someone established may get +4 on. So if someone is in Beijing who was also at worlds or euros and they do a great double axel they get more GOE than Petrosian. So she may have to do a triple. If she is only getting+1 and 6 pcs she has to do something
