Ross Miner Out Of Olympic Team (OFFICIAL)

So, what are the criteria to go for body work? Ashley did not have better body work than Karen and even Mirai?

And body work is from how many time? 1, 2 years?

As was pointed out ad nauseum, Karen's body of work over the last two years at Nats and Worlds beat Ashley's. And the criteria hold those competitions to be the most important. As for Mirai, her body of work (for a comebacker) is pretty respectable, and she finished within a few points of the gold medalist on Friday. Neither girl is like Ross.

I think if the criteria are close or unclear they would go with national finish which is what they did with the ladies. That way they don't have to figure out percentages or weigh anything.

The reason they bump Miner is that there is no percentages to weigh cause he has no bow. It is an open shut case for him on bow
Why did not they announce that if you have no bow you are out of the Olympics no matter what happens at Nationals?

This reminds me of the 1992 United States National Championships and the 1992 Olympic Gymnastics Trials when Kim Kelly hit clean routines, but was bumped for Betty Okino.

Some of the team competed injured in Barcelona, and they really could have done with Kelly there.

As a result, they barely wound up with the Team Bronze, where the year before, they won Team Silver at the World Championships

At the same time, hypothetically if Mirai's situation was like Ross's, I think Mirai would still have been chosen because they bumped her back in 2014. For them to bump her twice would have been outrageous.

Do you actually EVER see anything on the ice besides quads? I'm honestly surprised you didn't go to San Jose just to stalk Lysacek and unload on him about his "horribleness."
It’s just a fact! Rippon is quadless jourmeyman in this time of quad flips and quad lutzes in short programs!! He’s a nothing!

Well, I think it would be more fair if that just announced before the competition that the team is going to be a combination of Chen, Rippon, Brown, and Zhou, and tell the rest of the skaters they participate in Nationals but not in the Olympic selection.

Maybe the USFSA needs to have a Body of Work skate off qualifying competition for athletes who meet the criteria instead, and the Smuckers' Toaster Strudels JourneyPerson Championships for everyone else.

No surprise that Chrissy scooped the announcement. :blah: I have a good idea who the source was, but I will keep that tucked away or the thread might :lynch: :revenge: .

If Christine Brennan's tweet is verified, then IMO the correct decision has been made by the selection committee.

Ross was amazing last night. But, the last good performance I remember from him was 2015 RC where he scored around 248 points and was even w/ Adam (ironically). Before that, I can remember his 2012 NHK performance where he medalled, then he made the 2013 team and finished somewhere around 15th. Where else in his BOW would it be justified that he deserves a spot? Nationals does NOT decide the team anymore and I have been wanting the USFSA to change its criteria for selection to Worlds for quite some time. BOW is what is considered.

Call me a cynic. I am steely eyed and cold hearted. I think like an analyst. But one set of good performances at Nationals that make one feel warm and fuzzy for one moment in time don't necessarily lead to great results at the much more important competitions at Olympics and Worlds. This is the right way to make the choice.

Someone upthread seemed to think that Ross has a quad while Adam has none, but didn't Ross last land a clean one in 2012? Adam had a clean 4T at 2016 IdF.

Also, consider Ross maybe skated this way because he had nothing to lose. Can he do it again at Worlds when he has something to lose? Just something to consider ...

What I'm curious about is who will be the first alternate for the Olympics? Ross or Jason?

Given all the injuries we're seeing this season, that first alternate could very well end up going.

Good question. If they chose Jason over Ross they need to refund Ross for all his skating expenses this year. Will they name him to 4cc? Or will they be too afraid he will be brilliant there and make them look like a**ssholes.

That's completely not telling the true story. Kim Kelly was a literal disaster in international competition. The Romanian team was much stronger in 92 with the addition of Gogean than they were in 91. The 92 US team were the walking wounded but Romania was far more stronger than they were in 91. Okino was always going to be on that team. It came down to Kelly and Michelle Campi and they rightfully went with Campi and then Bruce when the latter got injured.

Just woke up and found out who was named to the team. It’s the team I would go with. U.S. Nationals is one event. The pressure and expectations on Adam and Jason were much greater than on Ross. I was there last night and Ross had the skate of his life. As much as that makes me want him on the team, USFS has to consider he has almost never competed well internationally. I agree with the selection of Adam. Body of work is relevant and important. USFS was going to get flamed no matter what decision it made here. I support their decision. The sad part is many fans will now turn on Adam, just like they did on Ashley after Mirai was left off in 2014. That really bothers me because it was a decision of the USFS, yet the backlash goes to the athlete. I hope fans will not now treat Adam the way Ashley was treated.
