Rippon is a complicated, outspoken, unlikely Olympian. He's also gay.

He was too busy attempting to reply to his 300k+ twitter followers and dealing with becoming the most popular winter Olympian in his country Fri Fri ;)

He's getting a ton of great tweets. Britney Spears tweeted to him today. I doubt he thought that would ever happen.

I love that he's getting so much love and that he has had such a fantastic Olympics.

I also love that he is a poster boy for being persistent and being yourself.

ETA: Michelle Kwan had this lovely tweet for Adam after his long program: https://twitter.com/MichelleWKwan/status/964713203132350464

Well the difference is that Weir was a medal favorite and Rippon is not. And yet despite all the b.s. backlash, Weir is doing pretty well for himself. I'm sure he's laughing all the way to the bank.

Nathan is more comparable to 2006 Johnny. High expectations going in, disappointing in one program and good in the other, finishing respectably but not on the podium. Difference there is that Johnny got a lot of backlash for it because he did well first and messed up second. Nathan is getting praise because he messed up first and then redeemed himself. Adam is comparable to 2010 Johnny, aside from Johnny's World medal. He wasn't a medal favorite going in and did not get a medal (team medal aside--the U.S. would likely have won a team medal if such things existed in 2010 and Johnny would be an Olympic medalist too), but his programs won the hearts of many and he's getting tons of media attention and has the personality and savvy to potentially sustain it.

He deserves it. They all do after all the years of struggle.
AMEN!

A couple of days ago I came across some sad Pence loving twitter troll hurling slurs at Adam and whining about Adam being ungrateful and not appreciative of all the "tax payer money" he's gotten and how that "grant" (payed by upstanding tax payers like him, remember!) is soon going to be cut off and Adam is gonna feel sorry and end up in the gutter, or something along those lines...

...and I just rolled my eyes soooooo hard!

Like, here's an idiot who has no clue about how any of this stuff works -- I bet he's never even heard of the USFSA or alternatively thinks it's some federal government agency that showers any half-decent skater with unlimited tax payer money and free Swarovski crystals -- and there he is, all butt-hurt and furiously tweeting his made-up "facts" at Adam... who most likely won't even come across this fool's tweets because he's too busy living his best life and probably/hopefully getting offered some nice opportunities he's never been offered before. Go Adam (and Mirai, and Ashley) and make the most of it! (y)

If it makes y'all feel better my dad and stepmom who are super hardcore Republicana (I'm conservative but didn't vote Trump and my dad whines I've become a liberal  ) loves Adam. Dad went on about how much guts it takes for him to just be himself and how decent people shouldn't give a sh*t but just cheer him on and enjoy his skating. So I'd say most don't give a crap, really. Nobody I knows cares, and I worked for Republicans in our state government. My FB is full of lots of praise for Adam's skating from those folks.

Cross-posting from his fan/cheer thread... This was my favorite tweet about/to Adam after his individual free skate: https://twitter.com/BillieJeanKing/status/964715910811521024
"Athleticism, artistry, and a Heart of Gold. @Adaripp, your positivity and your light shine through in all you do. And this is just the beginning. #WinterOlympics"
I posted this in the Adam thread in the skip as well - Adam just got a paying gig commentating for the rest of the games on nbc. So we will hear more from him. :D
Brennan's USA Today article states that Adam "will work for the network on a variety of platforms, including television, digital and social media." (And no, we don't need a separate thread for this news. ;))

ETA: Adam has since changed his mind about the NBC gig -- please refer to my post #80 below.

Actually, if they split the men -- and I'm not sure they would -- it would likely be Jeremy and Evan, and not Johnny.

UPDATE from Adam when he was on the Olympic Ice show with co-host Liam McHugh in the last hour:
Adam being interviewed on NBCSN right now. Says he turned down the opportunity to be an NBC commentator for the rest of the Olympics because that would have required him to leave the team and the Olympic village. He wants to be there with his team and for his team, so he's not going to do it.
ETA that Adam has posted on Twitter as well (in a series of 3 tweets - scroll down): https://twitter.com/Adaripp/status/965425832465334273
