He was very involved in many worthwhile charities:

Garson was also very involved with many charities, including AMFAR, Camp Joslin for Diabetes, Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, and especially the Alliance for Children's Rights, which facilitates adoptions in LA County. This has a special place in the Garson family, as Willie adopted his son Nathen in Los Angeles in 2010, and twice served as national spokesman for National Adoption Day.

From everything that I've read, Garson seems to truly have been one of the good guys and an incredible human-being. I've never seen so many heartfelt tributes for a fellow actor. Everyone who worked with him appears to have nothing but good things to say. It looks like he touched the lives of everyone he met. "Heaven gained an angel" sounds more than accurate! (Although, it also sounds very much like we could have used him on earth a little bit longer!)
