Practice reports / impressions

I was preoccupied with some work stuff once I returned home after having all four of my car's tires replaced (not in my any week of January agenda, lol) but rewound and watched CarPon and the Shibs. Still loving Perfume and think it will absolutely get the job done for them this week. I was really underwhelmed by the Shibs and agree their original RD concept was much better. This is just generic slop and won't do the trick this week.

Did Balazs even bother with getting a new costume for this Moulin Rouge SP? Looks the same as the Godfather one, tbh.

Watching pairs practice. Ellie and Danny looked awesome. Chelsea looks ill, not a stitch of makeup and she is coughing. She started the warm up with a mask on but took it off.
And she was coughing during their run-through like she's dealing with some congestion.

Balazs struggled on his SBS jump - pitched forward but kept his hand off the ice; and Audrey fell out of the landing on the throw.

Oh dear. If she's got one of these nasty bugs that's running rampant, I hope she gets well soon and doesn't spread it around. My sister had it so bad last week, she spent three days in the hospital.

Saw Ryan and Chelsea do their sbs spins, their unison is impeccable. Especially when they haven't been together that long. Watching Shin and Nagy now, they are looking pretty good. Ellie and Danny's costumes are lovely, like stars against a black sky.

Have to add all 3 teams here look solid. Ellie and Danny look like the champions they are. Chelsea may have a cold but she is skating full out. Shin and Nagy have landed some solid jumps. Ellie and Danny leaving now, they are getting some great applause. Shin and Nagy just bowed out, very nice applause for them. Didn't see Chelsea and Ryan bow out but they must have stopped cause I haven't seen them for the last 2-3 min.

Didn't know if I should do separate posts or just continue with this one. Anyway...
Next group is E/M, P/F and Flores/Wang. E/M looking sharp, their unison in everything is so good. They did their short but marked a lot of it. I like their step sequence. F/W did their short, was ok. Good to see P/F again, just had a nice twist and a throw. Their connection looks and feels stronger this year. SBS spins with great unison. F/W just did a really nice rotational lift, his feet were neat. E/M get such fabulous ice coverage with speed, speed, speed. The camera was pulled out and you could really see it. Just did a soft beautiful jump. Again P/F are looking intense, like they are really glad to be here. I am glad they are here, too.

Emily & Spencer marked all their big elements during the SP run-through. SBS spins looked pretty sharp though.

Interesting the practice I watched on the cock, Chelsea and Ryan had an awesome twist, awesome throw, awesome Lift, but I think they both may have biffed their jumps.

Was interesting to see the third and final pairs practice group. When Williams and Lewer had command of the ice and it was their turn, it look like Parkman McBeath we’re gonna crash into them. Lewer even gave an expression like what the heck does he think he’s doing.. I think this may be aimed at Parkman?

Anyways, ANL final predictions for the placements

1. LiuBed
2. EfiMit
3. Keyton Bearinger

What can I say? The heart wants what is wants.

Emilia and Vadim’s free dance is better than Chock and Bates’ and frankly so are most of their elements.

Green and Parsons have no shot here.

It's not just a strong dance. The music, the story, will go over big in Italy.

Shibs look happy. Sorry! JLB thinks it could go either way.

CarPom look raggedy as ever (to me). One problem might be their clothes. His jacket shifts around a lot and just adds to the disorganized movement.

It’s interesting to hear Jean-Luc on the various teams. Sometimes what he leaves out is interesting, eg praising Bye’s edges and not saying anything about Pate.

Watching dance the last two days, I’d say the team will be C/B, Z/K, and C/P as expected. I’d have the Browns pushing for the podium but they need to deliver, and even then I think they are probably resorted to 5th behind Green/Parsons but should absolutely be in the fight for bronze.

I think the Shibutanis will have a lot of ground to make up after the RD because it’s a mess, but they could get up to 6th probably at best IMO. 🤷🏼‍♂️ but fighting with Bratti/Somerville and Cui/Rogers and Wolfkostin/Tsarevski in that next tier. And then Pate/Bye, Neset/Markelov behind.

Flores/Jepsen show a lot more promise than I thought.
