New feature article by Hiro Yoshida on Europe on Ice - Penny Coomes & Nicholas Buckland on the Road to Recovery

Wow. Stunning article, and Penny speaks so candidly ... I can't believe how much she has gone through with this, plus her difficult pneumonia situation a few years back. Really hope that the bad luck is all behind her now.

It's also touching that she felt such a strong wish to keep the second Olympic spot for British dance, in order to benefit another team.

Well done Penny.Glad to see them back on the ice.So Robin already knows where the olympic gold is already going to.Does he know something we don't? :D Realistically even an olympic bronze medal will be hard to win for them.Too many teams. They have great chances for a euro medal or two though:)

Here's Sarah Brannen's article on Penny Coomes with quotes from her and Nick Buckland: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2017/04/07/222838630
"I've learned I can't look too far ahead," Coomes said. "It's about making sure I do everything possible every day. I hope in a couple months I'll be back to normal."
...
The first outing for their new programs will be the IJS Sheffield competition in England at the end of July, followed by the Nebelhorn Trophy in September.
...
She said, "When something you love so much gets taken away from you, to have it given back is very empowering. It makes you fall in love again."

Penny Coomes' road to recovery. One year on... (Published on Jul 1, 2017): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=985w3T0gUJk
This video provides an inside look into what Penny has been through over the last year. In June 2016 Penny fractured her Patella (knee cap) into 8 pieces. It was a potentially a career ending injury. With the
Olympics in 2018 she wanted to document her recovery so people can be part of her journey. Hopefully it can serve as inspiration to any other athletes that go through similar struggles with injury. Never give up and keep fighting.

They scored 79.46 in the SD at Sheffield IJS :cheer2: link to protocols here:

Senior FD protocols (C/B scored 112.26): http://www.icephoto.co.uk/IJSSheffield17/SeniorDance_FD_Scores.pdf

COOMES AND BUCKLAND BACK WITH A BANG AT IJS SHEFFIELD (article with photos): http://www.iceskating.org.uk/index....ckland-are-back-with-a-bang-at-ijs-sheffield/

Robin Cousins on C/B:
"The word I would use to describe the team’s comeback, irrespective of what happens this season, is remarkable.
“They have worked exceptionally hard, for a very long time, for the moment they could step back onto the ice together in competition.
“It was thrilling to watch them performing after such a long time away, and their success has only made them even more focused to reach their goals this season.
"Their performance last week is made all the more exceptional when we consider the way things were little more than a year ago.
“I don't think I've ever known anyone like Penny, who might appear so fragile, and yet such a tiger inside. It doesn't seem to matter what knocks them, they come back stronger.
“This has been a real test of their mettle but they have come back as strong and determined as ever.
“I know Nick and Penny are feeling elated after their comeback at the IJS, and now are fully focused on qualifying to represent Great Britain at PyeongChang 2018.”
