On another note, the Worlds schedule's already available and the ice dance free dance will close the competition. And they used G&G picture from last year. :Dhttp://www.milano2018.com/en/event/schedule/
Finally a schedule we deserve here in Europe :D I will be able to watch most of it and not feel sleep deprived and/or completely haggard. This SD dress is gonna give me nightmares though and watching live will be nail biting. I know Guillaume said never will a dress unhook again but still ... I want the tank top at Worlds though :mitchell:

This has nothing to do with performances at all. Or the skaters whatsoever.
It's the double standards about European and North American federation. If everyone including skaters seems to think that when a Canadian skaters win it's always because he absolutely deserves it even with CAN judges on the panels, it's really baffling. As if they were not doing political games too. But apparently it's France, Russia and Eastern Europe only that do the tricks. That's what I wated to say. Close your eyes just when it's in your favour I guess...

I didn’t hear skaters or federations speak about it - just fans here at fsu. That’s my only point.

It was all over the French press but didn't carry on though. Marie-France, David Pelletier talk about it on radios too. The issue wasn't the judging itself knowing that it can be country-biased, no one is that ignorant. It's the obvious conflict of interest.
But anyway, it did not carry on.

I don’t know if it is random but it’s not by country.

Aren’t the judges identified by number and then you read their scores straight down? I know that all the judges are identified as “ISU”, but isn’t Judge 4 the JPN judge?

ETA: are you saying it’s each individual highest score that gets thrown out? If so, in this that wouldn’t make a difference because JPN gave VM a perfect protocol - all +3s and 10s, which the CAN judge did not do. So JPN’s scores could be thrown out entirely.

I honestly don’t know how it is done I just meant they don’t choose it by country. I had forgotten that they did that. Maybe it is just two randomly thrown out overall.

:eek: and :cheer2: Gabriella and Guillaume are on Dancing on Ice :biggrinbo

And she is wearing the infamous green dress :)

aw, Christopher Dean saying he feels like a proud parent and that they have taken skating and made it an art form :swoon:

ETA 'and everybody watch just watch the next Olympics in Beijing'

His words about Beijing... :biggrinbo
Ha, ha, yes, I was just checking the spelling of Beijing - both he, Jayne Torvill (and Robin Cousins) certainly love these two going by their comments during the post competition discussion at the Olympics.

What did Robin Cousins say ?

They looked wonderful on DOI :) lovely to see them. I am surprised she hadn’t ditched that dress though!

What did Robin Cousins say ?

I saw a discussion with Jayne, Chris + BBC hosts talking about the event, this is what was said following discussion about P/C choreography:

Dean - 'they are simply art on ice, liquid, fluid, so easy'
Torvill - 'they are something very special'
The host mentioned V/M, Dean didn't say anything as Jayne simply said 'they were 'technical' and athletic'.
Dean then said - 'as Robin said earlier, when they are out there, skating perfectly together something else takes over and you feel you are watching something very special.' then ' They are so close together, deep edges and knee bend, speed from nowhere so much more difficulty as well'. So he was giving his own opinion and repeating Cousins'.
(Dean also mentioned that he thought the Shibutanis had given their best performance of the season.)

The short answer is:
1) the lowest and highest PCS mark for each skill are thrown out regardless of which judge gave it
2) those remaining scores are then added together and an average is found for each skill
3) the total per skill score is added to obtain a total.
4) That scores is then factored either by 80% for the SD or 120% in the FD
5) The country of each judge can be found amongst the ISU data

For example: PC
Judges: 1-CAN- 2-RUS 3-UKR 4-FRA 5-JPN 6-TUR 7-ITA 8-USA 9-ISR
SS: 9.50 10.00 9.75 9.75 9.50 9.75 10.00 9.50 9.75
1) the lowest and highest scores are dropped
SS: 9.50 10.00 9.75 9.75 9.50 9.75 10.00 9.50 9.75
--> Highest 10: RUS &ITA so choose one
--> Lowest 9.5: CAN & JPN & USA, choose one.
I merely used the first two and have them in bold/red

2) add remaining scores 9.75 + 9.75 + 9.50 + 9.75 + 10.00+ 9.50+ 9.75 = 68.00
divide 68/7 = 9.71
This is done for each component and they are then added together and are multiplied by 80%
So in this example PC received the following Component scores for the SD
SS = 9.71
TR = 9.71
PE = 9.82
CO = 9.89
IN = 9.89
TOTAL = 49.04
80% --> 39.22 (please take now that when you use an actual calculator, the total might be a couple of 100's off so I use the official totals from the protocols)

The GOE for each element is similarly done once a judge has assigned a score to those skaters.

Hope this helps a bit.

Are there going to be people forever lurking in this thread looking for opportunities to talk about V/M? They do have their own fan thread, where any defense of them will be met with more appreciation. Just saying.
Considering the number of P/C fans, including many who post regularly on this thread, who managed to find their way into the V/M fan thread this season, this is a pretty hilarious comment. :lol:

The only reason why the number of P/C defenders has stopped in the V/M fan thread lately is because V/M won the Olympics and the P/C ubers who usually flood into the thread know that they will have to do their whining... uh, I mean defending... elsewhere.

Just saying.

Use streamable.com ;)

For some reason, Streamable doesn't work on Youtube for me even though it's listed as supported site and I've turned off AdBlock. I may have to download the entire show if I want to see their performance.

But Streamable has worked on a lot of other sites so thanks so much for introducing it to me :).

With all due respect, the amount of fans/ubers or whatever we want to call them is not even comparable. V/M fanbase is huge, probably the second one after Yuzuru Hanyu. Have you been on twitter ? The fact that V/M won and people are still writing essays/threads about P/C (how they are bad, shouldn't have been 2nd, suck as skaters, and all the lies spreading around) is bordeline insane. I don't know how they did to stop all the hate on social media.

So no. Stop trying to compare both fanbases. It just isn't the same.

Nobody is actually whining. Gaby's dress fell in front of millions of people. They chose to compete instead of giving up that fight. They couldn't get to fight on an equal ground this time. Litterally no one here is complaining about V/M winning at all, but the circumstances. Let's leave the skaters alone.

In this thread we were litterally the only ones saying how close it might be at the Olympics, how it should be tough for both to win, etc, while in the V/M thread it was all doom and gloom seriously. We were not taking seriously, and yet now that V/M won it looks like it never happenned, but we know here it could. We just hoped that whoever could have won, it wasn't the way we wanted it to be.

I was able to download it and watch with clipconverter.cc

I haven't read the V/M fan thread since 2012, so if there are P/C ubers being obnoxious in that thread, I take your word for it and I think they're equally pathetic as the V/M ubers who do that here.

I do think it's especially lame that you still care when, as you've noted, V/M have won the Olympics and there's no reason to be insecure/defensive or even interested in what P/C ubers are saying when, as you've also noted, they're not even going into the V/M fan thread anymore.

Now onto the ignore list you go.

I don't follow skating fans on Twitter, so I don't know if V/M "fans" are writing essays, etc., but even if V/M's fanbase is huge and P/C's isn't on other forms of social media, I find that P/C fans are always trying to make their fanbase seem innocent and reasonable while complaining about the "insane" V/M fans and ignoring the fact that even if the insane P/C fans come in smaller numbers, they are still everywhere. Someone in this very thread linked to a pro-P/C Tumblr where the poster was doing exactly what you said above - writing actual essays about why P/C were robbed, V/M didn't deserve to win, etc. On every YouTube video of P/C or V/M, there are crazy P/C fans who rant about how awful V/M are and use insults such as calling Tessa fat, saying Scott skates "like a pimp", etc. And here at FSU, which is what I was talking about in the first place (not Twitter, not other forms of social media), P/C fans have invaded the V/M fan thread just as much as the other way around, especially since this season began.

As for "nobody is actually whining", well... that's your opinion. If the situation had been reversed and V/M fans were flooding a thread with posts that said they would have won if not for... (insert unlucky/potentially avoidable situation here), I'm fairly certain that fans from the P/C side would consider that whining. And that's not the only type of post since the Olympics that I have thought was whining from the other side, but again, YMMV.

FWIW, this is nothing to do with the skaters - I have said many times on this board that P/C are probably my second-favourite current dance team after V/M and I think they were much closer and more worthy rivals for V/M than, say, D/W were. I follow this thread every now and again because I am interested in P/C's skating, not because I am policing the thread for anti-V/M posts or am "insecure" or "defensive" on their behalf. I am not among the contingent that thinks they can't skate or that they should be placed lower for "always skating the same program". I think they seem like lovely people and I wish them the best in their continued competitive career. I just hate the hypocrisy of the P/C fan contingent on this board and will continue to call it out when I see it.
