Papadakis/Cizeron #5 - We're In Love With The Shape Of You

I' happy for Tessa and Scott - their dream came true. That being said, I'm heartbroken for Gabi and Guillaume. Not that they have a silver medal, but for the way they 'lost' in the short. Looking at it from the bright side, there's nothing to be ashamed of or sad for. They've just won the free and a silver medal at their very first Olympic Games despite many obstacles. What they've accomplished is a tremendous achievement. I was extremely proud of them yesterday and probably even more today. Bravo!

EDIT: There's the free dance for those who had the same issue - didn't enjoy it properly at the first time. https://vk.com/publicpapadakiscizeron?z=video-99627412_456239396/33e7e29e98188b854d/pl_post_-99627412_1032

Very sad for P&C. They skated a performance for the ages and yet came up short. It frustrates me that they lose the SD to V&M nearly every time. I don't take anything for granted where the next quad is concerned. A thousand things can go wrong. I hope they will be healthy and keep skating masterpieces but I want them to win gold, not just silver.

Gosh...

It’s a fact, Gabby’s wardrobe malfunction made a difference. We can’t say what would’ve happened had they not had it. Maybe they would’ve skated cleanly, maybe not. The point is, it did affect things and it’s an unfortunate reality. Both teams were remarkable tonight

Poor babies were smiling in their tv interview but they couldn't hide the disappointment...
Oh well.. I'm sad but what can be said? The SD did it and that's a bit sad.

I'm telling myself that this 2nd place will motivate them for 2022 but 4 years is a long time! I hope they offer us more and more chef d'oeuvres!

Watching the FD with a bottle of wine also turned out to be a great decision. I feel gutted for them, but I realize how irrational it is that a silver medal at your first Olympics, pitted against a legendary team at their peak, should seem like a disappointment. So much was being asked of them.

In 15 years of watching skating, that FD was the first performance that brought tears to my eyes. It was just astonishing.

And I'm going take a brief moment of pettiness to say that Virtue/Moir became my favorite dance team when Delobel/Schoenfelder retired, but eventually for me what they brought to ice dance became outweighed by what their fans brought to ice dance fandom.

Congratz for P/C ! I'm feeling very bitter right now, the malfunction, the fact that there was no French judge in the panel, the 85,10 the canadian president of federation gave V/M in the short... But it's pointless to redo history. They are the better in my eyes and that's all that matter.

Enjoy the rest of the Olympics G/G ! You guys were great !

They were stunning. It’s theirs in 2022.

Though it seemed clear the Canadians were going to be coronated again, it's still a bit of a downer to see that work of art from P/C and only a silver medal. It is unfortunate that they had to deal with that silly distraction in the sd, when they've skated that sd so great all season. Still kudos for how they held it together in the sd, and maintained focus for the fd.

It's kind of hard probably right now to think of waiting for four more years when anything can happen in four years. I'd rather see P/C having won the gold now. V/M simply didn't need another gold medal, no matter how good they are supposed to be, and obviously they are very good. They do very well what they do, and look cool doing it. But honestly, after everything that happened with C/B, Shibs, Hub/Don, and P/C, I was distracted watching V/M skate last. I wasn't moved this time. It was anticlimactic.

And it's very uncool to see petty lording it over P/C fans by clueless V/M nuts. Not all V/M fans act that way, but the ones who do give V/M fans a bad name and also turn off V/M admirers who might be more enthusiastic for them.

(I hope you're right, but) No tempting fate! :drama:

Four years is a long time.

Who'd have guessed in Sochi that Bruno Massot would be the next OGM in pairs?

When D/W and V/M retired in 2014, I temporarily thought Ilynikh/Katsalapov were about to take over the world.

Sigh. Not that I think P/C are about to go the way of I/K, but still. We'll have to take it season at a time.

Congrats to them on their silver medal and the FD - I imagine it all feels a bit bittersweet right now though.

Congratulations Gabriella and Guillaume for you have been gorgeous and wonderful in this competition in general and in the FD in particular.
Bravo for your silver medal but most of all THANK YOU for who you are, what you give us on the ice, the tremendous work you've done and the beauty and technique you've offered us.
You are real champs and artists and I truly believe the gold medal would have been yours (and rightly so) if not for the costume malfunction in the SD.

The story is probably very beautiful: legendary dancers titled again (but some of their fans are pathetic, sorry) ... but the story is also very cruel for Gabriella and Guillaume.
Yesterday, despite the catastrophe of the dress, they fought like lions (Gabi :cheer2:) and today Gabriella and Guillaume were magic. They can be very proud:) but it is also very hard: nobody knows what can happen in 4 years. I do not know what feeling they will keep from their first game.

I admire the notes of the judge 2:kickass:

I have a lot of mixed feelings right now. Silver should be great for your first Olympics but somehow I'm gutted probably because I know deep down the dress did it. Still their FD performance was one for the ages and yet, because people have selective memory only gold matters meaning this beauty of a FD won't be remembered as much as it deserves to be. Sorry to sound like a sour grape.
Now for a silver lining, I want to believe this will drive them even more to kick ass and produce more amazing programs. They have still much more to give even though as crazy as it is at their young age they have given us 4 masterpieces. I mean FOUR .... No other team I can remember produce that many memorable programs back to back to back. I just hope they will keep pushing and pursue their artistic vision (more work with Jeffrey Cirio please but even edgier like batshit edgy)
So again a huge congratulations to you, Gaby and Guillaume, for your grit, your class, your flawless and unmatched technique and speed, your innovative take on how a woman and a man relate on the ice, your port de bras and gorgeous upper body movements, for your humility and discretion. Chapeau bas :cheer2::encore::cheer:

I think P&C are lovely, and I hope that they come up with more gorgeous programs I can connect to more emotionally than I did with Moonlight Sonata ("To Build a Home" is one of my all-time favourite FDs, for example). I hope that if they stay strong until 2022 and skate the best out of whoever ends up being in the top tier then, that they are able to win their gold medal there.

However, I have to take issue with the statement above about V&M not "needing" another gold medal. No one "needs" even one gold medal. Gold medals are earned by being, as you said, "obviously very good" at whatever you are competing for. To say that because they already had two gold medals (one from 2010 and one from the team event here), they should have just stepped aside and "let" P&C have individual gold so that they could have the medal they "need" in case ice gets slippery before/by 2022 is just nonsense.

I also want to say that as a very long-time V&M fan (since they were pre-novice!), I have been quite ashamed at some of the so-called "VM ubers" who have popped up in the years since 2010 and have been obnoxious and unrealistic in their fandom. However, I find that PC fans also conveniently ignore the fact that there are also some PC ubers who have been very obnoxious over the past two years especially, but even the year before with Shibs fans when it looked like the Shibs might challenge for the world title in 2016. There probably aren't as many just because PC have only really been competitive for the last quad, whereas VM have been competing actively as seniors for over ten years, but I think PC fans who are reasonable and not "crazy ubers" need to think twice every time they whine about VM fans because their own "colleagues" have been equally obnoxious many times.

Perfect time and place for this.

P/C did well for their first Olympics. I don't agree with a lot of their scores and didn't agree with them being so close to v/m after the short but they were good tonight.

Thank you, that's so good of you after all you rattled about P/C in other threads !

About too many V/M fans, I forgot to mention the level of hypocrisy which is quite astounding too. These people are a dream :D
