Haha, true, they are young ! Plus they are coming next week and surely not too late,and they've been to Asia twice this year, it will be fine.
 
Wow, so many new pieces of information. To be honest, while I'm sad we won't see them so soon, I believe it's a good decision. They proved they know what's best for them this season: I assume they're staying with Romain in Montreal and he knows them so well that I wouldn't worry about this decision. Let's just enjoy the waiting for the individual competitions by watching the rest of the Games, esp. ice dance, and save the emotional breakdown for the biggest ice dance event of this year. :lol:

Translation :

-Born 1 week late, 2 big sisters (28 and 31 years old), really got along with them. He was very active, today he's more calm. (he jumped from the stairs once as a kid)

-Good student, did not have any problems at school. He did 2 years at the "Beaux-Arts". He maybe wanted to be a stylist. His teen bedroom : everything had an importance, taste for design already.

-Biggest quality : generosity, empathy. Biggest flaw : stubborn. Guilty pleasure : mom's cooking.

-Started skating at 7 or 8 (did judo and trampoline before). His dad took him to the rink, he loved it.

- How do you see the man he has become ? "Journalists often ask if I'm proud of my son. I don't know, but I am happy or him, for this couple. We are more proud for what he has become than for the skater, the champion".

-Does he surprise you ? "Yes, by his maturity, how he copes, how he sees life, I never thought we'd live such an experience with him"

-Last words before the Olympics : "Be yourself, find pleasure in living your art fully, enjoy this unique experience, fully live this strong moment, and he'll do his best so be strong, we'll be there every step of the way."

Definitely picking up a few bottles of wine this week. ;) I'm glad they've announced the reason for not doing the team event because I was seeing some comments that they were afraid of losing the SD segment. Why they would be spooked now after handling the GPF so calmly--I don't know.

And Team Montreal has been able to make significant improvements to programs in a short amount of time this season so I'm definitely excited.

It seems both of their parents prepared them well to be able to handle this moment. And thanks to the Moms for providing the baby competition photos.
 
Both mums are incredibly articulate - I'm not surprised! A quality inherited by their children. Thanks for sharing the interviews. Interesting that Gabriella was in a music stream at school. Both of their academic backgrounds in (different)arts shine through.

That's right Fred. And Guillaume said they are ready for OG on Instagram yesterday. I feel sad for them to miss the Opening Ceremony, but they are doing what they think best and lots of others skip it as well. All will be well.

I'm thinking the same, honestly if they can put 2 clean programs, I'll be happy for sure ! Number one wish :cheer2:
In any case, Team France (figure skating only) is skipping the Opening Ceremony tomorrow, it's way too cold and they prefer staying healthy since they'll all do the Closing ceremony :)
 
It was actually Morgan who said "Gabi et Guillaume" haha. It was funny, they were thinking about the coaching staff member who were there, and they forgot P/C are not even in Korea

Tell me about it, if I don't end up with an ulcer by the end of this I'll be thrilled :drama: I keep repeating : "this is just a competition not even from friends or family of yours, nothing remotely life threatening, stop being such a drama queen" but once an über always an über, better own up to it and enter the :gallopin1 fan category :D
 
I tell that to myself eveytime too, and I don't understand why figure skating fans including us are so emotionnally invested :confused: That's okay, this is figure skating not war. And yet everytime I see something I don't get, I'm like "Ugh, why do I even follow this sport ?" :rofl: Especially Ice Dance where the angle of your blade can make you lose half a point... or 2 sometimes. :revenge:
No but seriously, I need to chill, because I have too many teams that I like, including P/C who are my favourite and I have to make it through the Dance event. And ignoring the stupid shade of people (who seem to know nothing). And dealing with a tough Technical Panel. Chill :watch:
 
What helps me is focusing on other sport/s, not just figure skating. It gives a fresh perspective. (+ some nerves too as a preparation :D) But what do I know... I spent the whole GP season by doing everything but watching the competitions live. So my advice is: enjoy the team competition, guys... The next week will be crushing, and I don't mean only the painful getting up at such early hours. :lol:
 
What makes me feel better is that this tough tech specialist was already tech specialist at Cup of China where P/C did well on levels. Chock/Bates and BobSol didn't fare well at the time though but C/B had a late start to the season. So most major teams but for H/D have been through the tough Grincova Slavka. Now in the tech panel does the assistant have a lot of bearing ? Maybe YANG Tae-Hwa is even tougher than Grincova. At cup of China her assistant was György ELEK whose also supposed to be tough if I'm not mistaken. For sure, it does come as a shock as everyone is expecting scores to skyrocket at the Olympics. Maybe not this time around ...
 
The TS assign levels, the ATS either agrees or not. If the ATS does not agree, the Tech controller has the last word.
But they must have been told not to let anything slip, because the Olympic title is on the table. PapaCiz have drastically worked on their levels because they don't want a repeat of Worlds SD 2017 were you wonder where some 3 points are. As of today they are the only team who has gotten level4 Rumba at every outing of the SD. They had level 4s at every element, just not at the same time... yet ;)
I actually wonder how scoring is going to go for the individual. Because when we're all wondering for yesterday, the calls for the pattern were correct at least.
 
I've got a silly question to ask but why is it almost impossible to find videos of the team event performances? Was it the same in e.g. Sochi? I'm not sure whether I'll be able to watch the individual event live, so I'm afraid it'll be hard to watch the videos afterwards... This is my first figure skating Olympics (I'm like Gabi&Guillaume in this way, haha :D) and I'm shocked there're no videos... :shuffle:

Us Czechs can find the performances up on https://olympiada2018.ceskatelevize.cz/ ;) Hurry up though, they're only keeping the videos up for 3 days due to copyrights.

If you are French I have tips for you and all the websites you need ! Otherwise, I don't really know because Olympics copyright is just too much you cannot find anything on YouTube.

I can´t tell how nervous I am. I´m not sure I can handle it to watch live on TV... But I will... I already have vacations on these days as the competitions are in the middle for the night for me. And my coworkers wouldn´t be able to handle me after the FD. Either I´m so high and over the moon for happiness that noboday wants to be near me. Or I´d be ssad for them. I know I just should look forward to see them skate. And any medal would be a great thing :) I just would like them to win the OGM. Is it crazy that I hope that either P/C or V/M have a small mistake so it´s clear why the one team won and the other becomame second? I´d hate the talk when both teams are perfect and not both of them can win. It would be so much easier for the fans ;) But I HOPE that P/C will be PERFECT :)
