NYT live reporting on Ice Dance

Not the most informed but I liked this quote: "Having skated together for more than a decade, Papadakis, 26, and Guillaume, 27, have won four world championships, establishing a transporting harmony that has elevated ice dancing — often dismissed as frivolous and kitschy, with results that seem preordained — beyond sport into art."

This is from their sports coverage team. Four years ago one of their dance critics penned a piece on them. Hoping this performance would also spark some chatter from arts circles!

Can you tell us the gist of the commentary ... don't have access to CBC unfortunately!
At the beginning of the fd, Scott says "enjoy the mesmerising brilliance of Gabi and Guillaume."
During the dance, they're mostly quiet. Tessa comments on the "breathtaking twizzles, finesse, touch of the blade completely unmatched."
The fd ends and the third commentator (sorry, I don't know her name) summarises what China means for G&G: the first GP title, World title and possible the Olympic title.
Another few seconds pass by, Scott says only "wow" and that he "just started breathing again". Tessa adds that "it's the kind of program every skater wishes they could execute, wishes they could perform and every fan admires for its artistic flair." Scott adds that it's "a style all of their own and a class all of their own, truly iconic. They're pure skaters and if anybody ever tells you that they don't like the run of the blade of G&G or the knee action, they're just wrong. Unbelievable technicians and artists. They had two flawless Olympic skates."

During the replays, Scott says the twizzles were important as they struggled a bit with unison but that they couldn't have done them any better. Creative lifts, not a moment wasted during the fd. The score is up and Scott once again says only "wow". :D Tessa says she loves the impact G&G have had on the sport, "their reach is far, their influence great, they have set a new standard. They came, they executed, they conquered."

I'm sorry but I couldn't just summarise it in two sentences, it was really nice to hear such praise on G&G, and especially the tone. Words are just words sometimes, but their tones were really full of admiration. :)

Thank you so much @Isabelle.G ! Beautiful praises, indeed! Feels so good after all the silly animosity between the fans last Olympic Games.
It has been so frustrating to not get access to anything but a "truncated" commentary from NBC... You made my day! :)

That picture (just under the title) taken from the side, where she has fallen into his arms is just sublime.

I was trying to get a look at the cameraman. Is he shown in any of those videos? He must do several dry runs with skaters before he videos them. He seems to know in advance how the routine is laid out.

Jordan Cowan was an ice dancer himself for the US; He was coached by Shpilband.
Cool thanks. I found several interviews of Jordan talking about his rig. I was hoping for some video footage from a third party, showing him using the rig. Oh well, maybe some other day. I don't want to take the focus away from Papadakis and Cizeron.

They just repeated on French TV this afternoon that they don't know what they'll do beyond worlds and the French tour..

I hope that it's just that their mind was so obssessed with this gold medal for 4 years that they didin't WANT to see beyond, and that in a few weeks/months they'll decide to continue a little...
But I wouldn't bet on it. 😥

Have the tour details been released yet? I couldn’t find any information.

I wonder how the burnout/anxiety issues Gabi alluded to in a couple of her instagram posts would affect their decision about the future. I wonder if she's still having to live with residues of it even now.
