Hi all! Starting a new thread where we can discuss pairs in the 2021-22 Olympic season.

Here are the current pairs assignments for the 2021-22 ISU Grand Prix series:

Here is the results page from the most recent 2021 ISU World Championships:

Last year's season's-best and world standings lists aren't really that useful, as many teams were not included due to the lack of competitions.

Season's-best list from 2019-20:

I wonder if Panfilova Rylov May get the TBD spot at Rosteleco? I didn't see them listed. I hope their fed has not given up on them.

I think we saw a report a while ago that Rylov has had surgery that will involve a long recovery time. I think it's uncertain if they will be able to compete this season.

I think it was implied on her IG last spring. Neither of them have posted anything on their IGs showing that they're still training together since Worlds.

Lana appeared on Ice Partner Search earlier in the year (shortly after Worlds, if I remember correctly). Her biography has since been removed, so perhaps she's found a new partner?

Or maybe they decided to continue together. Similar situation was a few years ago. She was on icepartnersearch, everyone thought they split up, and then they appeared together again.

My early morning thought, looking at the Nebelhorn list, was they're giving it one last try. If they make they Olympics, they'll stay together through at least February and if not, they'll be done by the end of this month, lol.

Does the USA not send anyone because we can only send 2 teams to Olys no matter what?

But even so why not send a team for the competetion experience?

From the 2021 Nebelhorn Announcement:

"There will, in principle, be a total of 30 competitors in each individual discipline, 16 Pairs and 25 Ice Dance couples."

ETA:
Anyone know if they are still competing?
Not sure if we will ever know unless Ryom/Kim show up at another international comp. in the future.

Russia's Alina Pepeleva/Roman Pleshkov are in the U.S. now and are supposed to compete in NYC, according to Nina Mozer.

I was told there are 4(!) groups of Senior pairs and 2 groups of Junior. When the entries are published online I will post them here as well as create a thread in the Kiss & Cry forum.

That's amazing! Hazarding a wild guess that this event, like Cranberry Cup last month, will include most/all of the US senior teams (especially since none of them are entered in ACI the next weekend). That would be 8 teams right there - Knierim/Frazier, Calalang/Johnson, Cain-Gribble/LeDuc, Lu/Mitrofanov, Chan/Howe, McBeath/Bartholomay, Liu/O'Shea, Smirnova/Siianytsia. I also expect that Hops/Krasnopolski and the Crafoords will be there, and we know about Pepeleva/Pleshkov which brings us to 11.

The other five... Maybe Moore-Towers/Marinaro? They aren't registered for ACI. Are there any other Canadian teams not registered for ACI that could be going? Pfund/Santillan are registered for ACI the following weekend but maybe they plan on doing both? Same with Austria's Choinard/Mayr, especially since they haven't competed internationally at all as far as I know and they need to earn the TES minimums in order to compete at Euros. Not sure if the Philippines' Gamez/Korovin are competition ready but if so, they could be a possibility.

Holy cow, Batman!!! We have a new contender in the Olympic Pairs Spots race!

Barquero/Zandron just won the FS at Lombardia. They weren't setting the world on fire and Della Monica/Guarise are continuing their decline as a top level pair but still...

After last weekend's JGP Kosice and this weekend's Lombardia Trophy & John Nicks Pairs Challenge, six of the 13 teams vying for the 3 Olympics spots have competed already this season, and a seventh will make their team debut at next weekend's JGP Krasnoyarsk. Here is how the field is shaping up so far, using PBs from the teams that have yet to debut. I realize some of the PBs are a couple years old or from junior competitions, and as far as I can tell, H/D from Ukraine don't have an international PB so I used their 2021 Ukrainian Nationals score, but this gives us a pretty good idea of who is in the mix at Nebelhorn.

Barquero/Zandron ESP 184.94 Lombardia
Safina/Berulava GEO 168.26 JGP Kosice
Kops/Krasnopolski ISR 165.85 John Nicks Pairs Challenge
Petranovic/Souza Kordeiru CRO (season debut @Nebelhorn) PB 153.99 2019 Worlds
Jones/Boyadji GBR (season debut @Nebelhorn) PB 153.70 2019 Worlds
Hamon/Strekalin FRA 152.20 Lombardia
Wang/Huang CHN (season debut @Nebelhorn) PB 152.10 2020 Jr Worlds
Crafoord/Crafoord SWE 148.59 John Nicks Pairs Challenge
Lukashevich/Stepanov BLR (season debut @Nebelhorn) PB 145.55 2021 Worlds
Holichenko/Darenskyi UKR (season debut @Nebelhorn) PB 136.90 2021 Ukrainian Nationals
Danilova/Tsiba NED 133.87 Lombardia

Golubeva/Giotopoulos Moore AUS (team debut @JGP Krasnoyarsk next weekend)
Hernik/Wozniak POL (team debut @Nebelhorn)

Re-posting here from the Israeli skating news thread in GSD:
This week, at the 2021 John Nicks Pairs Challenge, Krasnopolski's new partnership looked a lot better than one month ago at Cranberry Cup.
Score up from 124.97 to 165.85. Minimums for Worlds done.
The inaugural John Nicks International Pairs Challenge Senior & Junior results (like at Lombardia Trophy & Cranberry Cup, the top 5 Sr. teams receive ISU WS points but scores don't count for ISU PB/SB): https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2021/30137/index.asp
Top 9 in Senior:
1 Alexa KNIERIM / Brandon FRAZIER 76.09 (1) 136.46 (1) 212.55
2 Jessica CALALANG / Brian JOHNSON 67.33 (2) 129.36 (2) 196.69
3 Audrey LU / Misha MITROFANOV 66.16 (4) 129.04 (3) 195.20
4 Chelsea LIU / Danny O'SHEA 66.67 (3) 110.78 (5) 177.45
5 Alina PEPELEVA / Roman PLESHKOV (RUS) 62.51 (5) 112.11 (4) 174.62
6 Emily CHAN / Spencer HOWE 59.77 (6) 110.31 (6) 170.08
7 Hailey KOPS / Evgeni KRASNOPOLSKI (ISR) 55.76 (8) 110.09 (7) 165.85
8 Katie MCBEATH / Nathan BARTHOLOMAY 56.41 (7) 105.28 (8) 161.69
9 Greta CRAFOORD / John CRAFOORD (SWE) 49.05 (10) 99.54 (9) 148.59

ETA that the first ISU Challenger Series competition with pairs will be at Autumn Classic International next week (9 teams listed now but the status of Austria's Choinard/Mayr is uncertain after their withdrawal from Nicks - reportedly she was injured in practice before the SP :(): https://results.isu.org/events/cscan2021_Pairs.htm

Barquero/Zandron may not have been setting the world on fire, but they had a wonderful skate regardless. They were a joy to watch. Sure, some mishaps, but I was pretty impressed by them.
Oh, I was completely impressed! I realize this is an early season challenger but their 184.94 here at Lombardia would have been good enough for 10th at Worlds in March. Not too shabby at all for a team who has been together such a short time.

I was equally as impressed in fact I think they should’ve won the whole thing. And it’s a shame that they did not

I mean I like Nicole and especially Matteo and I’m also Italian American but I’ve been saying this for years are always over marked. I like them a lot But there are times I feel like skaters below them should be above. I hope they have a great season though

Yes. DM/G are going to be lucky to finish 8th at the Olympics what with James/Radford (or I suppose W/M), C-G/L or C/J from the US, Miura/Kihara, Ziegler/Kiefer, H/K or H/S from Germany, and now Barquero/Zandron likely to be in the field as well as the 7 teams who finished ahead of them. And that's not even taking into consideration the young Chinese team that hasn't been seen since 2020 Jr Worlds or either of the Georgian teams, etc.

As far as your American teams I would definitely have Alexa and Brendan in there ahead of the other two teams

Well, Alexa & Brandon finished 7th at Worlds, ahead of DM/G by 5.60 points. I was thinking of C-G/L, who were only 1.19 points behind them in 9th as well as C/J who are skating well this fall and could wind up on the team also.
