P/K have a ways to go in polish and that LP is a mess, but I can't help but feel excited about them anyways after the GP. I've said this before elsewhere but they remind me of S/H at the same age- lots of big tricks but still sloppy, yet a lot of promise. I'll be interested to see if they'll continue with their current coaches in years to come- P/K are by far their biggest success yet, but they haven't coached senior pairs to the top before.

Who are P/K?

I think Pavlyuchenko is a total rockstars pairs girl. That girl is tough - you can see her willing the landing in the triple throw. I think he could work on his conditioning, because while she looks like she could skate another program after they're done, he looks completely winded. Also, I think they could both work on their basic skating skills. But the biggest problem (IMO) this year, is their LP, which makes Candyman look like G&G's Moonlight Sonata. That said, they've had a very good GP debut, with two bronze medals.

I'm really excited to see the up & coming Russian teams at Russian nationals this year. IMO, the second to last group last year was the highlight of the competition. I really want to see how they stack up against each other.

Boikova/Kozlovskii had a breakthrough debut at Skate Canada, and I hope they can repeat it in France. When they'e on, IMO, they are the best of these young teams, but they are the most inconsistent. Mishina/Galliamov, on the other hand, have been incredibly consistent, with great elements. She's another rockstar pairs girl with amazing throw landings. But their artistry needs a lot of work. Kostiukovich/Ialin have amazing speed, enormous elements but can be sloppy and inconsistent (which is totally normal at this stage!). Plus, she looks very young still and he's not super tall.

Plus, add in Akhanteva/Kolesov (love him; her .... I have my doubts), Efimova/Korovin (petty but inconsistent), and Panfilova/Rylov (pretty but no triples), and it will be a great competition. One of these teams will make it to Euros/Worlds but if Zabijako/Enbert don't watch out they could be pushed to #3 or out of the team entirely. I'm looking forward to it :cheer:

Yeah, probably not easy to do a senior program with an extra lift after juniors, but I'm sure he'll improve his strength and stamina with time(barring injuries of course); he's quite young for a pairs guy. Agree that Daria is a star.

I really hope B/K stay consistent from here on out; it was exhausting to watch them last season. Hopefully that was just growing pains.

Atakhanova/Volodin were shaping up to be my favorite juniors, but she's been injured for a while and apparently it's not even certain they're continuing together as a result.

i'm bringing up old news here but I miss Mirzoev. He's by far one of the most charismatic and entertaining young pairs men I've watched. I liked Miroshkin as well... why do all my favorite russian junior pair skaters keep getting injured??

Maybe it is a relatively unknown girl from outside MTL but in Quebec. There are loads of Quebec girls skaters who are good and many many who have beautiful lines and skating skills. Sometimes at summer skate there are 200 girls at prenovice level. What don't they have??? a triple triple. so many of them stop skating. There could be a lot of dabbling in pairs at the individual rinks. Who knows? It is an slim possibility. Anyone an hr outside of MTL would require a move.

This would be great! I’m open to it!

I agree with a lot of this! Pavliuchenko is still young but you can tell there’s potential there. I think she’s better than Khodykin - he looks kind of clumsy and awkward on the ice, even though he’s landing his jumps. I call them “Beauty and the Beast”. And I agree 100% about the free program - what the heck are these music cuts, the ringing phone, the choreography? Fix it please!

I think Boikova/Kozlovskii are in a perfect position to move up. They looked amazing at Skate Canada. I actually think Zabiiako/Enbert are pretty safe; they won both their events, scored a 140 in the FS at NHK Trophy, and Russia seems happy to give them the second spot.

TBH, nothing against any of these teams, but I just want Stolbova back.

My new favourites are Efimova/Korovin... I seem to be alone with that though!

You’re not! I love them, especially their SP. They pay so much attention to detail and she is a star.

Someone said on Twitter that today is the anniversary of Sergei Grinkov's death. It's strange, because I was just thinking of Sergei this morning .... I'll always miss him & mourn his loss. Rest in peace, Sergei.

It’s so weird. I wasn’t born yet when it happened, but when I discovered the story, it had a huge impact on my life. He was one of the most amazing male pair skaters ever; his technique on every element was flawless. He didn’t have a weak spot like most skaters. I know so many skaters are called “legends”, but Katia and Sergei really were the definition of the word. What struck me was that they were not only hugely talented, but they could also emote with one glance. They were both an incredible pair and a normal couple in love. To this day, they have a special place in my heart. I hope Sergei is in a beautiful place with smooth ice and comfortable skates.

I'm slowly catching up with the GP events.

Regarding Tarasova/Morosov, I really don't get why they don't just pick two classic pieces and skate them one season just to see how they do. The SP is proficient and their skating skills are to die for, but the programme could be anything playing, they just don't have the performance ability to do it.

The same is easily said about the LP - the music is gorgeous, but it's music that would be better suited to Savchenko/Massot (I see a few couples have LPs that sounds very S/M this season) and they absolutely fail to perform it in a contemporary dance way which is what I would expect. Even if they're not competing, we all saw S/M last season and will be judging this against their performance levels. S/M chose this kind of music because they couldn't do the classical style as well as this - they played to their strengths. It seems that T/M are point blank refusing to go to the style that so clearly would suit them the best.

I'm all for skaters trying different styles and seeing how they fair/pushing for versatility, but at this point in their senior career, they'd be better off picking two classical warhorses and doing pairs the traditional Russian way. I wish Moskvina could have coached T/M we could have had some incredible programmes by now.

Trankov advised against the SP music, but they'd already decided what the SP would be on their own and stuck to the decision. They did change the music from Lenny Kravitz to James Brown, but the genre was all theirs. I don't think Moskvina would have done differently. It's what they wanted. No idea why, but it is.

In my mind Moskvina would give them no option and slap them until they did what she told them

I get that they're picking the music they want to skate to, I just think everyone in the world should intervene at this stage. Honestly i'm the least classical fan in the world, but I really would love to see them doing something classical.

Their Rach SP was sublime last season and basically lets the judges just tap 10s across the board. Continuing down this self destructive path is like self harm....I just want to see them succeed, and not at the cost of another pair who are performing better. Their skating skills are head and shoulders above the field, but the other PCS are decidedly not.

But then everyone would whine that they always skate to the classics and it’s getting boring.

I think the FS is beautiful and they will grow into it. Although my dream program for them is The Nutcracker.

But then everyone would whine that they always skate to the classics and it’s getting boring.

But no-one can whine if they haven't done it yet, plus if they do it well people would be less inclined to complain. And if they do whine I personally wouldn't care - let other fans whine. James & Cipres have found their musical niche and stick to it, and i'm very glad - they do it very well.

I can't say I disagree and they have to know what programs score well for them. No idea why they insist on trying to skate to pop or rock music.

I will stop talking about them soon I promise  I think they could be as good as Berezhnaya/Skiharulidze if they got the right programmes - most of the music B&S used would suit them, except maybe Chaplin, he would need to grow a few more personalities to manage that, but any other piece of music could work.

Anyway I will keep my fingers crossed that they start to use their LP music in a better way and it's entirely possible, I didn't think Medvedeva would grow into her SP at all, but I think she's starting to the jury's still out on the LP :shuffle:

I think they could be stunning in any classical piece that’s not too dark. Nutcracker, happy parts of Swan Lake, even a War and Peace theme!

Kavaguti/Smirnov’s Manfred Symphony would be awesome if they could pull it off.

I really would like to see this.

Yeah, you’re probably right. Why is this team so talented but so hard to find good music for?

It's not hard at all. They need to listen to a variaty of music and together with the choreographers create smth. And more importantly, they need to listen their team who are there to work for them.
Just because you like smth, even if it's a beautiful music, doesn't necessarily mean it's suits you and it shows your qualities and strength.

That isnt a bad thing. Sui & Han are an amazing pair. Would love to see a 2nd world title for them.
Don't get me wrong, I want S/H to win all the things. It's just disappointing to watch all the other skaters (especially the experienced seniors who haven't had to adjust after just coming up from juniors) underperform.

I agree; they are so talented, there must be something that will work for them, and when they find that, they will be beyond amazing. Their FS this year is a huge step forward imo.

Could USA Pairs be back in business?

Cant wait for Golden Spin!!!!

Has the US ever had 3 teams that medaled on GP Circuit before? Me thinks not.....

I’m so excited! Tarah and Danny absolutely killed it! I’m not sure if the 3 teams meddling has ever happened before, but it’s a great step forward. It’s gonna be the Hunger Games for that last spot 🙈
