Oksana Baiul on Family Guy!

I laughed my hiney off without an ounce of shame or regret. See y'all in hell, I guess.

PS I'm shocked the creators would think that enough (any) people would get this joke to put it in. When I stopped laughing (about 20-30s) that was my first thought.

I chuckled a bit, but I agree - I was mostly just confused that they think the general public will get the reference.

Typical Family Guy humor. Nothing on that show makes me laugh out loud but some of it is mildly amusing like this bit.

I think the target audience skews older -- 30s & 40s -- so they were old enough to remember The Whack and its aftermath.

It wasn't an Oksana Baiul joke, as much as a Gandalf joke. The name "Oksana Baiul" does sound like something Gandalf would say. lol

By winning the '94 Olympic gold - the gold that poor Nancy was supposed to win :drama: - Oksana got caught up in the whole Nancy/Tonya saga and because of that, she is famous enough to be remembered. Obviously.

This episode also featured both Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski throughout (they voiced themselves) and Tara and Johnny are no more well-known to the general public than Oksana.

Exactly. :summer:

I met Oksana Baiul at a public skate years ago. I was in hockey back then and didn't know it was her. It was only me and her on ice for the whole session, and during a break I told her she had nice jumps. I asked if she did triples, she said "I used to do them". She was constantly checking her phone for results from Sochi Olympics, and I stupidly told her "I don't care too much about the Olympics". To a Olympic gold medalist LOL. She looked very amused and giggled. A few days later I figured out it was her and it's really a fond memory, she was incredibly sweet to be honest.

Thanks for sharing that! You're very lucky to have had that experience! :oksana1:

I love un-PC humor. But I just don't feel super good about this one.

If the same skit had been made with the miriad of ex-NFL players who drank, crashed, and/or killed, this skit would be called racists, sexist, or whatever. As long as gay-friendly people are mocked, it's ok.
