Excellent new mid-week podcast today, with a lot of info on SkAm. Super guest star! I’ll keep my mouth shut…ha ha! Don’t miss it!
Thanks Frau! Yes, our mid-week podcast episode is out! We talked with Jackie Wong "Rocker Skating" about this year's Grand Prix Series and Skate America. He gives us a bold prediction. ;) Also, we have the answers to some of the questions people are asking about Skate America. Listen here: https://www.thisweekinskating.com/episodes/

This Week in Skating’s recap of Skate America 2022 is up!

Updating: I’ve just heard the episode. It may last almost one hour but is excellent & to-the-point…and is one of the recaps that does NOT mention the offshoot event in - ahum - Eastern Europe. Bravo!

Bumping up this thread to say that I really enjoyed the pairs panel episode with Meagan Duhamel and @clairecloutier. Some really good ideas are raised, so I hope someone at USFS, Skate Canada, etc is listening. I don't know Meagan's exact situation (I know she's stepped back from coaching some), but I think she would be a really interesting and informed voice in federation leadership.

Agree, @ross_hy . I was also fascinated by the most current special episode, interviewing skating historian Ryan Stevens, who created and prepares the Skate Guard blog and just published the monumental Almanac of Canadian Figure Skating!

Some exciting potential projects discussed, too.

I subscribe to This Week in Skating through Apple podcasts. Every week the new episode shows up in my library and I eagerly listen to it. Many thanks for putting this together Daphne and Gina. I really enjoy your interviews too.

I also like Polina’s podcast and Santee on Skates. Chock and Bates don’t seem to be updating theirs much this season. I’m no longer listening to The Skating Lesson. The Russian focus and the mean comments about certain skaters really alienated me for good. Glad there is an upbeat and informative alternative!

I agree that The Skating Lesson spends way too much time on Russian skating. When Dave discusses developments in the doping case, then I think it's news. The current state of skating in Russia in general also has some news value. Discussions about individual skaters' programs and jumps to me is disturbing and is certainly not relevant now and probably for some years to come.

I enjoy This Week in Skating and listen to it regularly.

I do miss Flutzes and Waxles though. Does anyone know what happened to that podcast? (I apologize if it's already been discussed.)

No, we aren't returning to podcasting any time soon. It's time for a long overdue break to focus on everything else. The last 5 years have been fun but also exhausting, and we need a real break

Yesterday I posted the link to This Week in Skating's fun chat with Karen Chen (Jan. 15) in her cheer/fan thread; the Jan. 16th episode is up now: https://www.thisweekinskating.com/episodes/

Thanks for the info Sylvia. I’ll really miss the in depth analysis of all of the top skaters’ programs that Flutzes and Waxles did after each event.

I’m glad This Week in Skating is helping to fill the void.

Though the season is over, "This Week in Skating" isn't winding down. Olivia Smart was our guest recently! She talks about the Olympics, the end of her partnership with Adrian Diaz and Dancing on Ice. Plus, she gave the first public confirmation of the partnership with Tim Dieck.

We have two more episodes with special guests coming Monday and Wednesday!

Bumping this thread up for a special season 2 episode :) (July 19, 2023):
In Episode #90, we are joined by the eight-time U.S. Nationals competitor and 2011 U.S. Junior Champion Courtney Hicks, who announced this spring that she was returning to competition.
Courtney is coached by Josh Farris, who is the 2013 World junior champion, 2015 U.S. bronze medalist, 2015 Four Continents silver medalist and finished in 11th place at the 2015 World Championships. Farris. In 2016, Josh announced his retirement from competitive skating after struggling with the aftereffects of concussions.

Time to bump this podcast thread back up again! :) - new episodes come out on Tuesdays now.

From @ThisWkinSkating's Twitter/X today (Sept. 12): "It was a busy week with multiple events, but before Daphne & Gina talked about them, they had an important conversation about the inappropriate & hurtful comments made by fans on YouTube during the #JGPFigure."

ETA - also posted today on their Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/p/CxHAacGJRGq/

The latest weekly podcast is up (Tues, Sept 19 morn) … and initial glitches were fixed. It is perfect now!

Funny because this was a subject within the last (100th Anniv) podcast…about how hard it is to put these shows together! I totally get it!

The latest weekly podcast is up (Tues, Sept 19 morn) but one of the microphones seems to be out. Can only hear Daphne or Gina… 😢 They were talking about Brandon Frazier as a coach at the CS in Canada. I turned it off; hopefully it’ll be back on with all speakers heard.

Funny because this was a subject within the last (100th Anniv) podcast…about how hard it is to put these shows together! I totally get it! Will await a new edition. (Claire was referenced but I couldn’t tell if she was on the podcast as a guest.)

P.s. I see that the link to the Sept 19 podcast was removed. The 100th Anniv podcast is again at the top.

The correct episode is now up. We apologize for the inconvenience. In the future, if there is a problem with an episode, please email us at [email protected].

In TWIS' latest 2 episodes, Daphne & Gina spoke with Jackie Wong (for the 2nd year in a row) to preview the Grand Prix series, and with Sonja Hilmer following her first European experience at Nebelhorn Trophy "who after a decade of competing on the regional and sectional circuit, competed at her first U.S. Championships last season. Sonja also has a unique style on the ice, makes her own costumes, choreographs her own programs, and even choreographs programs for other skaters as well."

ETA:

Jackie currently plans to "live tweet" both on X and Threads and then will re-evaluate for next season.
