NBC Sports Gold app bombs

I must say I enjoyed my 5 month subscription to the NBC Sports Gold app...but apparently it has already proven a hug flop and has been merged back into NBC Sports due to lack of customers. I guess we shall see how much coverage is given to skating next season.

Though the USFS initially posted online that streams would be available worldwide, NBC staff told those outside the U.S. that information was incorrect and only domestic events would be available globally. After they had paid of course. Getting a refund will be a challenge.

Well if the app is going away and they are not moving the contents I assume they’re going to give us a refund for most of the year they didn’t provide service. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. Right now everything is still on the gold


Personally I didn’t think it was overpriced compared to what we paid for the previous version that was pathetically bad.

Umm, where is this information coming from? I haven’t seen any news about it or received an email from NBC.

The only thing they are doing is changing the app for streaming. All their apps will be in one now. I can still login to both the regular NBC Sports app and the NBC Sports Gold app on my Roku and see skating programs. For the most part nothing has changed except for the app you would use to access. I expect the gold app to disappear at some point.

Yes, I think this is just so they don't have to support multiple apps, not that they're dropping coverage.

I’m not sure why you’re concluding it bombed and will be dissolved? The streaming service has been around for 2 years already, and has far more packages than just skating.

As to how access will now work, I’m a bit confused. I have the current iPhone apps for both NBC Sports & Sports Gold, and the archived comps are still available for me on the Sports Gold app but not on the other one. Hopefully everything will be resolved by the time Nats rolls around as it’s impossible to get through on the NBC Sports customer service line today to ask questions.

I thought it was just horrible. What was listed as being shown was not being shown.....I saw some awesome curling!

It made me yearn for Ice Network.....and that is sad.

I and others have found that NBC Sports Gold is responsive via email.

I wondered that too and it currently looks likes the answer is yes to kwanette's question as discussed in the TV Alerts thread for NBC Sports Gold: NBC Sports Gold figure skating pass - feedback, troubleshooting, pros/cons, etc.

@Sylvia - thanks for reminding me, bc in fact I am one of the people who has previously found them to be very responsive via email. ?. It’s just today the wait time was an hour when I called and I figured I would just deal with it next week....I’ve been really happy with the service so here’s hoping it continues.

Why? Because they send out an email to subscribers. It isn't rocket science.

I had almost zero issues through the entire GP season or for the US Classic when either watching live or on demand. And $50 is less than you'd spend for tickets and travelling to any event. And not having to listen to Tara Lapinski and Johnny Weir blather endlessly during programs like a pair of douche canoes cements its value.

While NBC's video quality is good, there have been some glitches (and some misidentifying of archived footage). The NBCGold site is not easy to navigate (and the captcha bot prevention sign-in is annoying -- at least it goes away if you sign-in often).

I'm not thrilled with having to pay more for less coverage (i.e, we don't get to see press conferences, backstage interviews nor medal ceremonies, unless someone posts on Youtube). With IN, we got all of that. I agree it's a trade-off in a way because IN's video streaming quality was nonexistent, which was a huge pain.
