Mirai was on the Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Vess podcast.

He was appalled that she's never seen The Cutting Edge. She promised she would watch it, but she said the plot sounded cheesy. He finally admitted that it IS cheesy!

I really like Mirai. She comes off as very frank and sweet. When Jonathan asked her about famous rivalries and if the wrong medal was given in Michelle/Tara, Oksana/Nancy, etc, she refused to say and said she loves all those skaters. Jonathan is a very positive person and apologized and said he understood, and he was speaking as a fan but that it must be different when you're a skater.

She did treat it a bit like a job interview, in that every chance she got, she kept saying she wants to have a podcast, do interviews, etc. She said people have told her she's clever, and that she loves talking to people and it would be a dream to do that for a living. He didn't really ask her about her future plans (except in regards to skating), so it was a bit weird that she kept inserting it into the conversation, but I get it. She's putting herself out there, hoping for opportunities. She's networking.

I really like Jonathan too. (If you don't know the name, he's the guy with the long hair from Queer Eye.) He's a big skating fan, though apparently he doesn't keep track of all the technical details of the sport. It was a fun conversation. Nice pic of the two of them: https://www.instagram.com/p/BiM_tyoBZnV/?taken-by=jvn

If Mirai would like to do a podcast and lead interviews, it might be fun for her to interview some of our more "colorful" fans. Maybe reproduce some of our polls from FSU, just with video. If done right, it could be a hoot.

Star Tribune article ahead of the May 6th St. Paul show: Skating in St. Paul or dancing on TV, Mirai Nagasu has 'Star' power to burn
Excerpts:
"It's easy to watch the athletes who are continuously successful but it's the ones who get up and keep fighting, I think, who are relatable. Those stories are worth telling," Nagasu said by phone this week from the set of "Dancing With the Stars," where she's due to compete again Monday, after skating in St. Paul Sunday as part of "Stars on Ice" at Xcel Energy Center. "Most people only see the success stories, but I feel good about being a little of both."
"I absolutely remember St. Paul, winning nationals. It was freezing cold, but I got to enjoy Minnesota in the summer, too. The lakes are so beautiful," says Nagasu, who has visited figure-skating buddy Alexander Johnson, a native of Minnetonka.
Her partner on "DWTS," Alan Bersten, also is from Minnetonka. Generally, Bersten travels with Nagasu to "Stars on Ice" shows but she says he won't be coming to Minnesota because he's needed for a rehearsal in California.
[Queen's "Body Language"] was choreographed by skating legend Christopher Dean (another Minnetonka connection: he was married to Tonka skater Jill Trenary) after Nagasu said she's a Queen fanatic.
"I said, 'This might not be my style,' " says Nagasu, who worried the song is too sexy. "But Christopher is one of the greatest and, out of respect for him, I thought I'd try it."
Do we know who choreographed her "No Good Deed" solo?

I've looked and looked but I can't seem to find out the answer anywhere! Even on Mirai's website she lists Christopher Dean as the choreographer for her Queen's "Body Language" exhibition number but for "No Good Deeds" only Idina Menzel is mentioned (as the singer/performer of the song). I wonder if Mirai maybe choreographed it herself?

Mirai is so funny. Who knew? (I guess we all did.)

Just wanted to pop in and say that Mirai was truly MAGICAL out there! Don't really know what a Foxtrot should like like but that was enchanting! Both she and Alan looked like a true fairytale couple out there! She got the first 10 but imo she should've received ALL 10s! :D

Mirai has been so impressive in dwts. She looks like a pro and has a big advantage in being flexible and good in timing, expression, doing difficult choreo. I gave her most of my votes with a couple for Adam. Love her vlog too!

Seeing her on #dwts makes me even more irritated at Tom Z - the lack of performance quality is just inexcusable.

IF You look at her vlog and see her train the chacha, before they got word salsa wouls be their first dance, she lots insane. Her footwork is so precise. I’m so glad she got a chance to be on this show!

You could tell how utterly exhausted all of the skaters were between their SOI shows last weekend, so I give Adam and Mirai a lot of credit for keeping up with this type of travel schedule. It's extra difficult for them because everyone expects the skaters on the show to have an unfair advantage and automatically be the best. It was so funny seeing Nathan in so many shots...I know that Jason was going to the show, did anyone see him in the audience? Adam will probably win the whole thing tbh, so I think that they should have just given Mirai the win last night since I thought she was better. It's pretty funny that they literally gave Mirai her own Disney night. It's sad that it's a short season, but I'll be happy when the SOI shows are over and Mirai can treat herself to a nice vacation.

It is so rewarding as a fan to see a happy Mirai having the time of her life. It was such a roller coaster of skating season so it is kind of an unexpected gift to see her in this show AND with so much charisma!

May I dear to hope that after DWTS and touring with SOI has ended, she will reflect on what she has achieved and to realise if there is still some motivation to head into another season...or not.

Selfishly I believe that with all experience she gained over the season (both good and bad) she is still one of those skaters I believe can still improve. I mean, the level of fitness she showed last season was a big step up from previous season and I still have NOT digested how low balled she got in TES at Worlds. She did a fine performance there and there is really something wrong with the sport when there is such a gap in between the appreciation of the crowd and what is actually marked on the score card by the caller. I stand firm that there were no less quality of the landings of this performance and the team event LP (minus the 3A of course). I even believe the 3/3 combo looked much better at worlds and the only iffy landing I saw was the Lutz and perhaps the 3T in the 2A/3T combo. If only these two landings would have been called, what could she have scored? Around 130 perhaps? Of course it probably would not change much in terms of placement but as an audience I would feel it was more "fair" scoring...

Aah, your avatar is (y)(y) capturing the exceptionally lovely, confident Mirai Nagasu with her very stylish, handsome dance partner, Alan. NICE!!!!

Mirai does look like a pro in the ensemble number.

Tonya goes in and out of blending in with the pros. Sometimes the flair is there, and sometimes it is decidely NOT.

Adam looks pro, but lacks skill; he just needs to work some more.

I was struck how graceful it was - willowy arms and soft shoulders. And those kicks to the side and on toe could have been Cyd Charisse in "Singing in the Rain" Would love to see this in her skating. But, hard to do when you're squeezing 8 triples into a long program.
