Michelle Kwan (Threads Merged)

And Michelle was definitely one of the very best. I have seen so many over the years using their arms in a way that reminded me of seagulls flying in desperation escaping from a storm. Not with Michelle. She always used her arms in a rhythmic flow just like a swan in smooth waters. No desperation of getting away from a storm there; Just the smooth and calming rhythm of Michelle. :) :respec:

I gave my Michelle Kwan musical snowglobe (Hallmark) to my niece because she was drawn to it every time she visited. That was a simple and lovely remembrance of Michelle. And my niece keeps it front and center on her "collections" shelf.

I still use Michelle as my standard on arm movement within the skate and for joy within the skate. Nothing was ever hurried...always graceful and the joy....goodness gracious she was special.
 
Starting in 2003, I keep imagining her doing in-betweens while she was just doing crossovers setting up jumps. (for Aranjuez and Tosca anyway, for Bolero I kept thinking what kind of COP spins there would be and how she would hold those spirals) I had wanted those long programs to be much richer than they were shown to be and believed that those imaginary in-betweens would have been in there if she was healthy. That's a kind of (sad) MK game.

I actually liked the emptyness of Aranjuez... it had such a casual, easy, breezy feel to it. It's just relaxing to watch.

For Aranjuez, I would imagine some steps before the 3flip, a hydroblade before the 3sal, the Kwan spiral that should be held and go directly into the 3toe2toe, her usual steps before that final 3lutz

I'm a huge video game fan and have been playing a bunch of sports games recently and I've been dreaming of a figure skating game. COP actually makes the logistics of making one a lot easier than a 6.0 system did. I even think one could customize a COP to their liking and do some crazy stuff like make a quad worth 3.0 points.
 
If there were a figure skater Michelle Kwan-type of game that's in the Assassins Creed style, I'd probably never get anything done. :p. That would be ridiculously fun, Ubisoft could have Michelle travel the world and look for relics for better blades, equipment, costumes.. Coaches in certain areas of the world could help improve her jumps, spins, and artistry; You would need to complete challenges for the coaches to improve in these areas like AC. They could even be in "sequences" like AC, but the first sequence is skate America, sequence 5 is Nationals, etc. :inavoid: I think it would be successful.

One thing I loved about Kwan's best exhibitions is the level of skill and technique she just put on display out there. One of my favorite exhibitions of hers is her Tori Amos Ex to "Winter" that she choreographed herself at 1997 Worlds:

I don't know if this has already been posted in this thread, but 12 years after her 1997 "Winter" here is Michelle skating to "Winter Song" by Sara Bareilles -- only a 3T and 2X, but her skating still had it in so many ways and she still could reach an audience. :respec:

ETA: I feel so fortunate to have been able to see Michelle skate "Winter Song' in LA the following year. It was her last public skating performance in the U.S. to date. :wuzrobbed
