Michelle Kwan gives birth to Daughter

Happy news! Congratulations! 🥳

I wasn’t aware that she had remarried or was engaged! Looking forward to a nice extended-family photo (grandpa Danny Kwan and all)! Auntie Karen & her children, too. :)
Once again, why the assumption she is remarried or engaged just because she had a baby? People don’t need to be either to have a baby, and I don’t think the assumptions are appropriate.

Regardless, there's no "rule" that the baby can't have the mother's surname. I know plenty of non-skating people who have used the mother's surname, including married couples, for various reasons.
Some families give the girls the mom's surname and the boys get the dads.

I'm actually sorry I did not do that, tbh

Michelle is the focus at Nationals week even in 2022, 17 years after she last competed there.

This again proves that she is better than Irina - everyone expects Irina to have a secret baby all these years, but Michelle is the one who actually did it. :D

This feels like the "off-season" where Kwan used to keep her programs a secret until the very last minute before the official practices and people would report back. With her, back in the day, everything was a huge deal - even costume reveals. That's what you call a real superstar in the sport.

I really miss that kind of reveal. As a young adult it reminded me of how I felt as a kid on Christmas morning. I only had access to the internet at work, so I was always going in early during those times. It was a college job in the dean’s office so I could just pretend like I was doing school work. :COP::fan:

Who cares how she got to this point? Congratulations to Michelle, beautiful baby girl! I'm surprised how people are discussing who's the dad and even the last name. This is exactly why she kept it private, it's none of our business. And at her age, it's very likely it wasn't an easy journey. Very thrilled for her, let's leave it at that.

At first I thought this was a different Michelle Kwan, but I guess not?

I'll guess she'll manage caring for her infant and her new posting in Belize okay. The Kween can afford nannies, that's for sure.

I'm surprised news of her pregnancy was never revealed. She must have gone into hiding once she started to show.
I was offered the chance to apply for an amazing job while I was 1 month postpartum. They didn't care I was juggling a baby even then. I also have a friend who's the breadwinner and her husband is a stay-at-home dad. Families make it work. :)

One good part about having a pandemic pregnancy—it's not news if you don't go out. ;) I didn't start to really show with a jacket on until maybe 6 months. I surprised A LOT of my stakeholders (most of whom hadn't seen me in person for months) when I showed up to a pre-Delta party with a huge belly.

My sister's best friend got pregnant during the height of lockdown and even forgot to tell my sister that she was pregnant until she was literally about to pop. They'd had regular FaceTime calls but it was only chest up! And my sister isn't into babies, so the topic literally never came up.

Anyway, I was like "WHAAAAT" at seeing Michelle's news on Instagram! It tickles me pink that she didn't tell anyone! Kudos to her for keeping her private life private! (It also tickles me pink that our daughters are about the same age! :40beers:)
