Love, Balls and Courting: Tennis V

I was really looking forward to Dmitrov-Medvedev.

Raducanu doesn’t play mixed with Andy and still loses to a qualifier. Poor Wimbledon fans…

First week in the books and no one's talking about Wimbledon? :drama:

The men's draw has gone to predictions so far! The upsets have been few & far between! The women's draw has been devasted by upsets & injury w/ #3 Sabalenko WD before her 1st match! The biggest surprise is how Novak Djokovic has responded to his meniscus surgery on his knee and still getting to the 4th Round vs Holger Rune tomorrow! :40beers: 🥳

On the ABC broadcast they said Novak had surgery on June 4th. It's astonishing (to me) at how his movement has continued to improve match to match. (I didn't see today's match with Rune, but a straight set victory against someone how has given him problems in the past is pretty impressive.) I will say the upper half of the draw is a lot more difficult and I think whoever comes out on top there has the ultimate edge.

The ladies draw is crazy. Gotta say Navarro was super impressive in her over Gauff, she was so composed I couldn't believe it. I guess Rybakina is the default favorite to win now though.

Rune was terrible, and Djokovic was good.

Yes, Djokovic had surgery on his knee during the French Open - about 4 weeks ago.

Amelie Mauresmo who was the Tournament Director put Novak out there as the last match twice, resulting in him playing into the early morning exacerbating his knee injury! Meniscus surgery was performed, but the recovery has been no short of a miracle!:scream:   🥳

Djokovic manages to be such a sore winner:

So you think! The man is one of the most gracious w/ his opponents! He speaks to them & they comment on his humanity!

Listen I'm sure he's a fine person. But he's also rather sour and quick to take offense. Which is a trait many, many GOAT athletes have, from Michael Jordan to Kobe Bryant to Tiger Woods to Serena Williams to Michael Phelps.
He also comes across as more than a little arrogant at times, like when he all but demands to be acknowledged as the GOAT. Which OK, isn't uncommon among top tier athletes either. But there is a reason why Novak is not as beloved as his peers, Rafa, Roger and Andy (I put Murray in this group because I think if his career hadn't been so horribly shortened by injuries that he would have been right up there with them in accomplishments).

I think Djoker also enjoys playing the villain sometimes. Which... actually makes me like him more, lol. It can be quite amusing to watch. I didn't like the way he acted at Wimbledon last year though. The way he taunted Ben Shelton was annoying. And it wasn't the first time he's done something like that.

I think a lot of his personality comes across as try-hard. A good example is this post:

It's a sweet little video, but that poem is cringe.

Rematch!! Alcaraz vs Djokovic!!

Who is going to win?!? As Alcaraz said

“I know what I have to do and he knows what he has to do!!”
