Someone wrote an article entitled "How Japanese is Naomi Osaka?", and Jeff Yang responded on Twitter about what bullsh!t that is. But he also went on to tweet in response to his original tweet:

Tai put American pairs skating on the map in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and media back then could not comprehend that she was of Black, Filipino, Native American ancestry. All I remember was people talking about her “exotic” background.

In the thread, Babilonia replied:

Thank you @originalspin Wish I had press like you rallying for me back in the 70s! People just don't get it! [emoji] #ignorance

and then:
They didn't know what to do with me, so the press created their own narrative. #exotic
We've come so far from the '70's. Not.

And back to tennis.

I can't seem to find the Olympic Tennis thread, so I just want to comment on Melo's whining about Novak hitting the ball at him during the mixed doubles and calling it unsportsmanlike. Oh puhleaze, Melo is a doubles specialist. He's been pelted tons of times before and will be in the future. Crybaby. He's also besties with Zverev so it might just be mind games hoping to psych out Novak. Yeah, good luck with that. (Also a shot to the body is a very legal and very legitimate shot. Players should use it more often IMHO).

I was worried about Zverev in the draw for Novak, but now I have a feeling it will motivate him to destroy Zverev today. (Also a shot to the body is a very legal and very legitimate shot. Hon, it's over! Sascha defeated Djokovic in 3 sets over an hour ago! Nole's out of the singles, but still playing MxD's! :40beers:

I actually didn’t think he was going to win this week, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him do the calendar slam (just without the gold!) Hopefully he will recover from this injury in time for the US Open. I’m not a big fan but it’s a shame if he is injured when he’s had such an incredible year.

Well, I've decided not to even consider going to USO like I did when Serena was gunning for the CYGS. I don't need the disappointment.

I always said he was much more vulnerable in best of 3 than over 5 sets at grand slams.

I do feel bad for Stojanovic losing her chance at a medal. Judging from the amount of rackets he threw and smashed, I’d say the “injury” is more a bruised ego than anything else…

Yes, THIS. Novak has a strong mental game which allows him to have greater success in Grand Slams with best of 5 sets to allow him to comeback. He is far more vulnerable in best of 3 sets.

From what I've read, his comments had nothing to do with Simone and were only mischaracterized as such.

What I understood from his comments is that professional athletes need to block out pressure to succeed or something similar. It was not a personal attack on Biles. Novak knows that he's tightened up/choked in a match but it didn't put him at risk of paralysis or death though. He wasn't attacking her, just saying part of being a world class athlete is dealing with pressure/fear. Which is true.

There's a very good article about Pablo Carreno Busta's bronze medal in El Pais that works reasonably well with Google translate.

Credits a good night's sleep for recovering well after losing the semifinal against Khachanov, mentions how this is a dream come true, especially after missing out on being selected in 2016 despite being in the top 30.

The audacity of men to correct my word choice. 😂

Anyway, I said what I said.
I read what you said, and it doesn't make your generalization any more logical or necessary. If you want to carry on the rest of your life clumping every 'man' together and choosing not to understand that the majority of men on this particular board are, in fact, the biggest supporters and cheerleaders and have chosen to surround themselves around women since they were very young, then that's your loss and it's honestly ignorant.

Anyway, I said what I said as well and I'm sure someone will find issue with some kind of -splaining, as usual.

Never liked Djokovic, but have always had enormous respect for him. I have to say that a sizable amount of it faded after this week.

I am seriously bothered by allegations against Zverev, so I twice gutted Karen Khachanov didn’t have much to put against him today, but on the bright side, overall Karen had a good run in tough circumstances and hopefully he can build on it.

I love watching Khachanov play. He really has a complete game. His match against Shapovalov at Wimbledon was a really high quality match and could easily have gone either way.

I found this post and I totally agree with it! Why does all the western tennis reporters hate djokovic they lie about him?

“what happened this week was disgusting, he said "the pressure is a privilege" because they asked him if he feels pressure of winning the Golden Slam, but somehow the media twisted as he was attacking Simone Biles, but she never was never mentioned in the question.

He also said that 10 months ago before US Open 2020:

The french media apologized for the mistake, but it was too late, spanish, british, american and latin american media etc… spread the big lie, they created an animosity against Djokovic, now people that doesn't like tennis, now hate Djokovic because he is an "asshole" and now friends and people that knows me asked me how I can like some guy like that, but they were all misinformed by a phrase taken out of context.

This never happens with Federer or Nadal, even Zverev who is accused of domestic violence, media has never informed this as something relevant, I know that he is possible innocent, but they would give Djokovic that benefit of the doubt? If we live in a media where phrases taken out of context and smashing some racquets is worse than domestic violence and other things, I don't want to live in this tennis environment.

It's so exhausting and frustrating that now non-tennis fans the only reference that has of possibly the GOAT players in tennis is negative and it was all by western media.”

if only women accused him of beating them! That would be so much better for him than smashing a racket! Saying parents should decide vaccination of children!
Then there is Withdrawal due to shoulder problem and exhaustion and they all call him a liar

lots of baffling stuff

Much simpler to say the men’s gold medalists is accused of all different kinds of abuse and the villain of tennis is djokovic

Agreed that those abuse allegations are disgusting and he should be held accountable. A lot of toxic masculinity going on in men’s tennis sadly. It is really on the ATP to do something meaningful about it rather than meaningless condemnations.

This group apparently has no problem with posters attacking another person on this board based on their gender. It is obvious sexist bigotry. I don't think this group wants to be known as a harem of angry man-hating feminists who are nasty and irritating hypocrites, all with a tone of superiority (because men are bad or inferior? Who knows with these people.). This board needs to stop being sexist/misanthropic against men. It's old, it's tiresome, and it's toxic. And it's most of all stupid and ignorant, considering the majority of the men on this board are not ones who suffer from 'toxic masculinity' as it were, and are okay with or likely gay people, and have mostly women friends. It's telling when some of the women on this board can't even get along with a gay man. Because he's a man, and must be harassed based on his gender? Is that okay with you women who attack men constantly on here? I feel sorry for any man in your life.

Clean up your act, please. No one likes an angry bigot. Especially when you aren't even close to reality. Save your nasty comments on Newsmax or Fox sites next time. Or go on Judge Pirro and talk it out. Just stop being so dang sexist here.

“Harem of angry man-hating feminists” 😂😂

I love that. I really think they should consider re-titling this board that!

IKR? lt sounds like a group I'd be in!!! lol. Unfortunately it would require even just an ounce of a sense of humor which these people here seem to be devoid of. Sad.

Nice job employing the humorless feminist trope. And very brave to considering how much my jokes about Djokovic seems to have hurt your feelings.

That’s something I’ve always like about men. The lack of self awareness coupled with the limitless audacity is something that really only they can achieve.

You're confusing me with someone else. I don't remember any of your "jokes" about Djokovic and my feelings definitely weren't hurt because of them.

Now to be fair, it's funny how you keep on using blanket generalizations with statements such as this and don't see your own bigotry. You give your opinions on men as a whole quite a bit, as if all are the exact same.

I'm pretty sure many social issues and political divides we have today are because of that exact line of thinking and ignorance. [and I'm editing in here that I don't mean lines of thinking about men, but of groups based on race or sexual identity or skin pigment]

And I'm not calling you out because of your gender (so no need to claim that), but because you keep on with these all-encompassing statements that seem to fly just fine in your own mind. Doesn't make them factually accurate.
